I used to listen to this in the college dorm in 1975. Today I was happy to see it on You Tube as I had just read the call of St. Mathew with those simple words: "Follow Me." Amazingly, Matthew did without hesitation, without looking back.

Winter 1975: Someone had given me the cassette tape for Christmas. I listened to it over and over. This song made me happy as I began my first year in college at the age of 25. (I was a late bloomer.)

In Hong Kong there are so many undertakers, undertaker is just glossing over undertaking, namely business busily. But what is undertake? HK children, do you know you also undertake your studies? Who is queen (Suk John, lego) and who is slave (ah man, gasoline girl)? Undertake is constituted of under, take. When is a child under? Note that a child always needs a fix or the cross, that is just formality of things. That is how a baby B sees the light, it is the way things are going. What a formality for the baby child. When the thing is formal for a baby girl, it is just the whip of the girl, like knocking off her feet after truffle formally. The baby girl is under and not for taking. So the baby girl undertakes her studies.

Today is the Feast of St. Matthew. I am so moved by the story of his call in Scripture (Matt. 8:9-13). Those simple words "Follow Me" are addressed to all of us. I want to be like St. Matthew, leaving all behind without hesitation to follow His will. Sometimes, in the morning, I am so willing, but the flesh takes over as the day progresses, and I yield to selfishness and laziness. But, when I overcome those tendencies, the nights are so consoling, and the call is renewed!

This is an incredible and very underrated love song. One of my favorite John Denver songs. Actually used it in a fan-fiction story I wrote almost ten years ago. It fit the characters as I was portraying them.

It's a beautiful song, but if you listen to the words it does sound rather selfish. Maybe a hint as to why the great love of his life ended?

I am a writer. I had the great opportunity to meet John at St. Benedicts Monastery in Snomass where my Uncle was a Monk for 17.5 years. We spoke about one of my pieces. He encouraged me to become published, which I never did. When John died, I had so much guilt within my soul. I need to follow his wisdom & try to make my mark in this world as he did . . .

John Denver is quite simply the best singer songwriter there has ever been. His voice is without equal, effortless and full of emotion. I was privileged to see and hear him in concert at the Manchester Appollo theatre. No other artist could come close to matching him. So sadly missed but his music lives on. R.I P. John.

Two years ago I was in Italy for my daughter's wedding. After the wedding i had some alone time and so walked down to the piazza. There was a young musician there who was playing music by John Denver. It was early evening and as I listened i thought of home....of America and for the first time I was homesick for her. John's songs are beautiful and inspiring and they were in turn inspired by the beauty of this nation.......not it's "" power" but rather her ecology. To me John's music is the expression of love for the natural beauty of America.

John Denver's music and messages are as uplifting now as the first moment he sang these heart felt songs.

His music takes me back the summer of '70, having graduated college in Tx, working in KC, new friends, and come winter - drives to Vail, Winter Park, Aspen to explore the Rockies/skiing/single-on-my-own adulthood. John's Rocky Mtn High Music was our anthem.
