Denny, Sandy - Solo Lyrics

Good morning, good afternoon
And what have you got to say?
Well I'm waiting, but I can't stay long
It's such a lovely day
There's a time to be talking
And a time when it's no use
Right now I think the things you say
Are liable to confuse

I've just gone solo
Do you play solo?
Ain't life a solo?

What a wonderful way to live
She's travelling all over the world
Why, the fame and all the golden
Opportunities unfurled
No time for the gent with the Mulliner Bentley
And heaven knows what else
Why, he wouldn't even stand a chance
With all his oil-wells

She just went solo
Do you play solo?
Ain't life a solo?

I've always lived in a mansion
On the other side of the moon
I've always kept a unicorn
And I never sing out of tune
I could tell you that the grass is really greener
On the other side of the hill
But I can't communicate with you
And I guess I never will

We've all gone solo
We all play solo
Ain't life a solo?

I think this may actually be too good ......the world is such a lesser place without her. A troubled souls no doubt but bursting with talent, modern artist can only aspire to her sheer star quality

  3. F.... F....

OK, how did somebody that small hit those notes? Forty years on and more and I still can't listen to her without welling up.

  4. T.... ....

Wow, what an incredible song. Excellent vocals, excellent instrumentals. Cannot ask for more.

Okay--started out a horrible day--berated by wife-ready to leap--but--starting to breath now--slowly--God this is pretty

Why can we not hear I'm a dreamer on YouTube? Not as if I don't already have it on record.

    Maybe you could post it.

Early this year (2017), a guy that-I THINK was a Chapman University student, convinced me to sing the first verse of this for a video he was filming. I still can't believe I did it, and have no clue where the footage ended up.

I went to a strange gig at Olympia in London in 1974... Roy Harper was one of the acts meant to be appearing and I'd specifically gone there to see him but he apparently fucked off with the money he was paid for the gig so things were going pretty dismally... The crowd was disastrously small and the whole day had gone quite poorly when FAIRPORT hit the stage - they were easily the best thing I saw all day and one of the highlights was Sandy sitting at the piano and belting out this new song of hers - SOLO... The hairs on the back of my neck stood up when she let rip with this... Soon afterwards I bought LIKE AN OLD FASHIONED WALTZ on vinyl and I'm proud to still have it....  Sandy you are still the best - no one can touch you but you can touch us... Thankyou.

I was in London at that time and did not know about her-i find her 2019-so Glad !

    Sandy Denny, eternal Sandy Sandy,
You have been one of my most constant and best companies in these last 40 years... (so long already ...)
You have given me, as surely as thousands of people in this world, unforgettable moments with the beauty of your songs.
We are with you! You are with us! Rest in peace!
(One day we'll keep you company ...)

Well said. Personally, I am not in a hurry! I like churchyards, but only while I am on the right side of the Bellis perennis (daisies)!

    E.... A....

    Concordo, espetacular!

  28. t.... ....

I am sorry for the delay in replying, been busy etc. Yes, I miss Stuart very much too, Such a talent. I love All About Eve too, well, the first three albums anyway. We share a similar taste, it seems,

  29. c.... ....

@mapior Sorry to contradict other people, but it's NOT Richard Thompson on this version, recorded by the BBC in 1973. It's Hughie Burns guitar, Pat Donaldson bass, William A (Willie) Murray drums, and of course Sandy on vocals and piano. Richard Thompson does play on the version on the "Like an Old Fashioned Waltz" album.

    c.... ....

Thanks for the info,Sandy sounding so lovely and I have always loved this version.

  30. O.... W....

    awesome guitar solo!

  31. v.... ....

Tks 4 this great upload and I like to add, that its actually Hugh Burns on lead guitar...no Richard Thompson and Jerry Donahue as suggested...!!!!

    Have a nice day.
    Vanu.

Lovely, sadly missed Sandy. This is a brilliant song, for some weird reason I would love to hear (completely different) Willie Nelson doing it....maybe I dreamt it..

  33. k.... ....

    I love this song.......voice, lyrics, music, guitars........beautiful

  34. F.... S....

No. That's not Richard Thompson on lead guitar. It's Jerry Donahue. Jerry played with her on the Fotheringay album too.

  35. A.... W....

Good morning PJ and all of you. Love every bone of all of your bodies!!
    Andy xx

  36. t.... ....

thats cool, thanks for the info on the musicians. Richard Thompson pops up a lot, doesn't he?

  37. J.... M....

From Sandy's album 'Old fashioned waltz' - the whole album is full of treasures

  38. t.... ....

Hi. I think this comes from a BBC recording she made, if I remember correctly. I think its' available from stores and Amazon etc. Glad you like the song.

  39. m.... ....

Anybody know who the musicians are?

  40. m.... ....

Anybody know where this version comes from??

  41. Q.... ....

I discoverd this one recently, it is just an astounding song, the lyrics the verse chorus hook, and of course lovely Sandys' voice, which has to be one of THE
    great, human vocals.

  42. t.... ....

You're welcome. I am glad someone likes it, and thanks for the kind comment.

  43. F.... ....
