Denny, Sandy - Milk And Honey Lyrics
Gold and silver is the autumn
Soft and gentle are her skies
Yes I know, are the answers
Written in my true love's eyes
I think that I'll be moving on
I've got to leave him and find another
I've got to sing my heart's true song
Round and round the burning circle
All the seasons, one, two, and three
Autumn leaves with the winter
Spring is born and wanders free
Gold and silver burnt my autumns
And then there were no others
Milk and honey were their lives

Denny, Sandy Milk And Honey Comments
Purely magical to my ears 🕉
2020
there are 14 dislikes................................are they incredibly stupid or just tone deaf???
I love all her JCF covers! So beautiful. 😍
This reminds me of Janis Ian's song From Me to You.
😍🍺🇸🇪
Sandy was extraordinary but she didn't think she was any good.
Although I prefer Jackson C. Frank's (original writer) version, this is still beautiful. Jackson & Sandy actually dated for a while & he convinced her to leave her nursing career to concentrate on music full time, so we can thank him for that too.
"Spring is born, and wanders free". I love that line (by Jackson C Frank) and the way that Sandy Denny delivers it so beautifully. On a par with Natalie Merchant's "Spring keeps her promises, no cold can keep her back" on her wintery song 'Frozen Charlotte'.
Remembering and celebrating Sandy Denny, 40 years, to the day, since her passing (21st April 1978). Such a gorgeous voice and unique talent.
Attention fellow old farts, sure we were around when this shit was new, but great music is coming out always. CHECK OUT nEKO cASE, IF YOU LIKE SANDYS VOICE, oops, I knocked cap lock, fek it.
I prefer Jackson C Frank's version (and he wrote it!).

Sorry. Just compared. Absolutely NO comparison to this by Sandy, one of the greatest voices to ever be recorded ... but beauty is indeed in the ear of the beholder and your choice is your choice ... enjoy.
such a beautiful song 🌹
I feel so empty without her...
She was a great and tragic star from the sixties This song was best heard while tramping the moon lit road from Aguathuna
to Boswarlos, circa 1970.
Utterly unique .No one could sing this song with such beauty as Sandy .Breathtaking It goes straight to the heart
Something about this song reminds me of Portuguese Fado. Two of the most fantastic voices to ever visit us here on Earth - Amalia Rodrigues, and Sandy Denny!
Winter is coming
Super...
this song is just a masterpiece!!What a graceless voice of Sandy!!
Oh Sandy ! I try to put together a list of your best, but gems like this come up and lists are meaningless, You are Beauty xx
Perfect song for late October/early November. So moving; with that awesome voice.
THAT is right at the time I am first hearing this ...
holy shit, she's effing astounding in this!
Babe im gonna leave you? lol Sounds a lot like Led Zeppelin this
on ' battle of evermore '
Apparently, she didn't get paid a penny for her efforts (guesting for one of the richest bands in the world). Sadly, the most talented artists are so often badly managed and undervalue their own ability. Sandy Denny was unique; such a beautiful voice, full of emotion and passion, and wonderful phrasing.
Portcullis blame Peter Grant then lol
I'm starting to think zeppelin have a lot to answer for
@albusal So do I!
Voice of an angel!!!!! Had the privilege to hear her live.
You have truly been blessed ...
even sandy cant better the original..how awesome was jackson c frank
I couldn't even get thru his, found it a dull delivery.
Love the music my mam played
mine too
Sandy you are cold and silver
Lovely - she reminds me of Joan Baez in her rendition. Thank you for posting. (Now I'll have to look for BLACK IS THE COLOR OF MY TRUE LOVE'S EYES.
Yes, this was my Impression, too. Beautiful song.
I want to sleep with her voice dancing in my ears...
What a beautiful way to express the beauty of her voice,
She is iconic. IMO, Josienne Clarke has inherited Sandy's mantle. If you haven't heard her, please listen.
Yeah I love Josienne Clarke. She's amazing.
Sometimes Chan Marshall of Cat Power reminds me of her too.
I am not usually a fan of cover versions, but her voice on this recording is just so beautiful that I keep coming back to it again and again. This is such a melancholy, reflective song that it seems perfect for this time of year as autumn fades into early winter.
Each cover version offers something beautiful to one of the most beautiful songs written. In my opinion, it's the guitar here that gives it a new dimension. I still prefer Jackson C Frank's vocals over Denny's.
Utterly beautiful poetry, this song gets me every time....
How very Englisc
milk and honey inside me, i love it.
Gold and silver
Is the Autumn
Soft and tender
Are her skies
Yes and no
Are the answers
Written in
My true love's eyes
Autumn's leaving
And Winter's coming
I think that I'll be moving along
I've got to leave her
And find another
I've got to sing my heart's
True song
Round and round
The burning circle
All the seasons
One, two and three
Autumn comes
And then the Winter
Spring is born
And wanders free
Gold and silver
Burns my Autumns
All too soon
They'd fade and die
And then
Aye, there were no others
Milk and honey
Were their lies
love it
Really love this version, really love Sandy but I prefer the original: http://youtu.be/fO7ih6Nu3MA

I have just recently discovered Sandy Denny. A talent who left us way too soon.
Schöööööön :)
Nick Drake - Milk & Honey
Yes! Nick Drake was the man! Sandy and Nick are two of my favorites
sandy was a bit before my time. Never heard a song of hers before this year but been catching up. She captures an extradinary pathos.
far far beyond words...the very best i've ever heard in half a century of looking
She was so awesome - loved her then, love her now.
Beautiful, as only Sandy could deliver. Amazing, Ethereal, Everlasting Voice.
Thanks. I've been doing some detective work on Nick Drake and I had read some about this guy. That clarifies things.
So, isn't this a Nick Drake composition originally? The lyrics seem a lot like his from what I've read.
No, it's a Jackson C. Frank song from 1965. Nike Drake covered it too.
αγαπώ.....
I was just reading Charles de Lint's "Dreams Underfoot", a book of short stories full of magic and urban faeries, and there was a little reference there to Sandy Denny, which reminded me of her and of this particular song again, and I thought that she and this song in general really sound like voices from the faery-land! Sandy's got the most enchanting timbre I have ever heard. :)
Only very and very fine !
A lot of thanks

So, so beautiful!! Priceless...
@ciss79 R.I.P. Johnny Silvo. He was one of nature's gentlemen,.
@ciss79 Thank you very much! I will try to find that one too :)
@TheVelvetBride I have that version on an LP called "Sandy & Johnny" on the SAGA label 33rpm.
Her voice was made from Gold and Silver !!!!
@le6006 Actually, the lyrics floating around on the web are incorrect. It's "Yes and No are the answers" (and most of the sites that repeat that same error have "Milk and honey were their lives" as the last line when it's really "Milk and honey were their lies"). Normally I wouldn't bother mentioning this, but I think those two lines are integral to the sense of the song.
very beautiful music
Her voice could tear out an emotion from a cold, dead stone. She is simply amazing.
@Kagster99 Thank you very much! :)
Would gladly, and literally, sacrifice 100 today's so called "rock stars" to hear this amazing girl singing again.
Such a shame she died so young.
@TheVelvetBride Its from a compilation called 'Gather in the Mushrooms, The British Folk Underground 1968-1974' which can be found on Amazon :)
Dear @Kagster99, could you, please, tell on which album or compilation this particular version can be found?? I have Sandy's "Milk and Honey" on the album "Dark the Night", but it's quite different. This version is much interesting and beautiful I think. :)
This reminds me of "Humble Pie" for your love :) Nice song and guitar playing indeed.
@le6006 Isn't it "Yes and No are the answers?"
Sandy Denny..............what can one say?
Her voice has always rendered me speechless.
Beautiful.
I'd never heard Sandy Denny other than a few Fairport Convention songs and hardly knew she existed. I was into Cream, the Stones, CSNY, The Who, etc. Thank God for youtube, at least for discovering lost diamonds like her. I know you'll all say, she wasn't lost, you were. Her voice was incredible and so far, she picked and wrote great songs to play. Every accolade she's ever received was deserved. Thank you Kagster99 and all the other posters who put her music on YT!!!
she died way too young. she was great. Pentangle is also a good band from that era.
yes, Sandy was Jackson C Frank's girlfriend
It could do with some compression, but unfortunately her voice goes into the red and you can't do anything about that
Sandy Denny forever.................
I didn't know anyone else knew of Sandy Denny. I loved her voice since I was little. I am sorry to hear she has passed away... :/
Simply magic.
@eirinikos I think it's Jackson C. Frank
Can somebody tell me who originally wrote this song?
Jackson C. Frank. He also did a song called "I want to be alone" which is just as heart rending lol
@RatherLargeAllan The track comes from the session she recorded with Johnny Silvo in 1967, originally issued on the "Sandy and Johnny" LP. So I guess the second guitarist is Johnny. He's still going strong. Saw him in concert a couple of years ago.
This was recorded with the Strawbs.
this is a beautiful tune and if indeed it seems to be a response to this tragedy JCF experienced as a child then it was an artistic and lovely lasting lyrical response that we all now get to hear on youtube. Thanks for giving Jackson credit.
whoa, ya
beautiful..
Yes and no are answers,
at least that' s what I hear...
thank You so much , for the Lyrics
Gold and silver is the autumn
Soft and gentle are her skies
Yes I know, are the answers
Written in my true love's eyes
Autumn's leaving, winter's coming
I think that I'll be moving on
I've got to leave him and find another
I've got to sing my heart's true song
Round and round the burning circle
All the seasons, one, two, and three
Autumn leaves with the winter
Spring is born and wanders free
Gold and silver burnt my autumns
All too soon they'd fade and die
...
and no less!
Another stunning and beautiful Sandy song and so introspective. I will never forget seeing Sandy in concert. Poor Jackson C. Frank, who wrote this song, never got the credit he deserved and had a very rough post-1960s existence and never seemed to fully recover from the Buffalo NY school house fire that took the lives of ten of his fellow sixth grade classmates in 1954.
he voice is mind-blowing, but i'm not sure if this song would sound much better without that second guitar
i only listened to it one time and it made me cry at once.
it's so beautiful.
Fabulous song, thanks, nancy. I'm guessing Led Zepp's Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is derivative or vice versa..the opening reminded me alot of it.
ty toec..rr, great trailer, haven't seen that movie; but the trailer really adds some atmosphere to the orig.vid, and the poem becomes more transparent, haha grandiose promises...
Yes of course, JACKSON C FRANK, sorry. Funny I didn't know either of them Brown & Franck up to last week and now I mix up their two names
Beatiful, yes, she has really made it her own but please listen to the original by Jackson C Brown
there are meanwhile 2 vids by J.C.F. on utube;
...and a great one by Bonnie Dobson no one will wish to miss :)
Denny's cover's also superb ;)
the deserter dear landlord and this aarrrgghh
I thought Nick Drake's version of this song was good til I heard this... stunning.
