This is everything great about Country. Beautiful but heartbreaking. And it's real.

I don't like country music at all, but my parents have always been into alt country and, as a result, I listened to Iris Dement (and Nancy Griffith, etc) as a kid. I would have been six when this was released; I used to go to sleep to a cassette tape of this album. I don't know if it is due to events going on at that time in my life, or if it's purely down to her artistry, but her music has a completely unparalleled ability to bring me to my knees almost instantly. It's crazy; the song doesn't even have to be sad. 0.5 seconds and I am weeping like a baby

What I admire most about Iris is that she has always done it her way.  No selling out in her genes.

I discovered Iris Dement by accident just browsing through used cd's one day. The cover of this album intrigued me enough to buy it and when I first heard this song I was just blown away. Still deeply moved each time I hear it.
