Del Shannon - Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow The Sun) Lyrics

No one will understand what I've gotta do
I've gotta find a place to hide with my baby by my side
She's been hurt so much, they treat her mean and cruel
They try to keep us far apart, there's only one thing left we can do

We gotta keep searchin', searchin', find a place to hide
Searchin', searchin', she'll be by my side
If we gotta keep on the run, we'll follow the sun-ah, whee-ooh
Follow the sun-ah, whee-ooh

Doesn't matter, doesn't matter what people might say
She's mine, and I'm gonna take her anyway

Gotta keep searchin', searchin', find a place to stay
Searchin', searchin', every night and day
If we gotta keep on the run, we'll follow the sun-ah, whee-ooh
Follow the sun-ah, whee-ooh

We gotta keep searchin', searchin', find a place to hide
Searchin', searchin', she'll be by my side
If we gotta keep on the run, we'll follow the sun-ah, whee-ooh
Follow the sun-ah, whee-ooh
Follow the sun-ah, whee-ooh
Follow the sun

Very sad that he committed Suicide. Most of therm seem to come to bad ends, Drugs, suicide, accidents. Aircraft accidents seem to be common amongst pop singers. I think the sudden wealth which they come into has a large bearing on it.

Most of his songs although upbeat are written in a minor key which gives it a sad feel to it.

I played keyboard in a upstate NY house band in 1965. Del Shannon arrived to do a show, with only his guitar. We knew his songs, and I got to play the solo on his Runaway. We were too young to realize how lucky we were. After the set Del changed his clothes, grabbed his guitar case, and left. He was a very nice guy. We took a few pictures of the event.

He was one of the great rock artists of the era. RUNAWAY, HATS OFF TO LARRY, LITTLE TOWN FLIRT, KEEP SEARCHIN', first Beatles song in America (FROM ME TO YOU), first Rolling Stones song in America (UNDER MY THUMB).

In the years leading up to his death, Shannon suffered from depression. On February 8, 1990, he committed suicide with a firearm at his home in Santa Clarita, California. Shannon was cremated, and his ashes were scattered.

I don't think Del ever fully realized how much he was revered as one of America's most appreciated rock artists. Had George Harrison gotten him to join the Traveling Wilburys, who knows how far they could have all gone.

I was born early 50's. This song just appeared in my head the other morning and I had to look it up. I had no idea it was Del Shannon. I don't think I've heard it since when it came out; memory is a strange and wonderful thing! I only could have named "Runaway" if asked about him. This is cool as well though.

  33. L.... H....

Heard this song today on the 60's on 6, Siriusxm, n I was hoping he was gonna "follow the Son" but I guess not. Very catchy tune!!

This super classic by Del Shannon still tears me - who still sits still, which is beyond help! From how clean he hits the high notes from 1:56, you can see very well, the outstanding octave volume he had. Thank you very much for uploading from Germany.

When this song first came out, one of my friends kept singing it non-stop; he couldn't get it out of his head. Then it came on the radio, and he sang to the radio; and I heard the song myself. That was 1964. The next time I hear this song is 2018, on you tube.

  57. d.... ....

    Miss you del boy 😢

  58. J.... A....

Hey, at one time Del Shannon was THE man. He was what was happening and had tons of fans. Tom Petty even wrote about he and Del Running Down a Dream.

  59. D.... R....

I bought this Stateside 45 rpm single in January, 1965, when I was 17, going on 18 and I still have it in my collection. Two or three minutes of pure magic, that's what singles were all about in those days and this one is no exception. A great song sung by a great singer with a great production. It still sounds marvellous after nearly 54 years and there's nothing today that sounds anywhere near as marvellous, let alone will still do so 54 years from now.

Del Shannon (Charles Westover) used to live right door to my friends' parents house in Northridge, Calif. in the mid-1970's. I only saw him one time, but he sure left a legacy of some unforgettable superb music, that lives on!!

    C.... C....

I lived in Northridge. Guest of the whore of a junk dealer named "Ben". I think it was early 70s or late 60s. Opened Bible and it said "Do not let a woman rule" so I left.

  65. D.... ....

Can't believe not one person has commented on what this song is about. The fleeing of Nebraska by Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate.

    D.... ....

I love this song but I didn't know that fact learn summat everyday

    D.... ....

Is this really true? Would make that song unappropriate in my opinion :(

Interesting. Whenever I listen to it I think of Charlie Starkweather.

So underrated i miss him still and died poor as hell.

    P.... O....

I didn't know and that makes me want to cry. He had so much talent

    P.... O....

I agree with underrated. But please explain how he died "poor as hell"? The only thing poor about Del at the time of his death was his mental health. His pockets were in no way hurting.

    P.... O....

    You know this, how?

    P.... O....

What statement are you referring to?

    P.... O....

I agree with underrated. But please explain how he died "poor as hell"? The only thing poor about Del at the time of his death was his mental health. His pockets were in no way hurting. Pray tell us how you are aware of Del Shannon's wealth when he committed suicide!
