okay hear me out on this one, the born to die album is about a girl falling in love with a man. lana sings in this is what makes us girls, saying remember how we used to party up all night — sneaking out looking for a taste of real life. almost as she can’t do it anymore. my theory is that in the Born to die era lana is singing about a different guy. because in TIWMUG she ends up killing him. are you still with me let me finish lol. later with Ultraviolence we hear in Cruel world she sings, share my body and my mind with you — that’s all over now — I did what I had to do. saying she had to kill him because she couldn’t bare have someone else love him. that’s why her hair changes from brown to black. doing so because she’s wanted still for the crimes in born to die. we see hints of her old and her old guy in Ultraviolence singing. he used to call me Dn — singing from the first guys point of view. she still misses him even thought she stated in cruel world — and I’m finally happy now that your gone. in west coast I think she sings from two storylines. as you know in west coast the beat changes from two styles. in the chorus I think she’s singing from the POV and starts to miss her old life and her old boyfriend. that’s why its a switch up. she’s singing, I can see my sweet boy swinging, kind of like it’s all in her mind. then she realizes she has to let that part of her life go. hence why the beat goes off of each other. am I just overthinking it?
