Del Rey, Lana - Chelsea Hotel No. 2 Lyrics

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
You were talking so brave and so sweet
Giving me head on the unmade bed
While the limousines wait in the street
Those were the reasons and that was New York
We were running for the money and the flesh
And that was called love for the workers in song
Probably still is for those of them left

Ah, but you got away, didn't you baby
You just turned your back on the crowd
You got away, I never once heard you say
I need you, I don't need you
I need you, I don't need you
And all of that jiving around

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
You were famous, your heart was a legend
You told me again you preferred handsome men
But for me you would make an exception
And clenching your fist for the ones like us
Who are oppressed by the figures of beauty
You fixed yourself, you said, "Well never mind,
We are ugly but we have the music."

Ah, but you got away, didn't you baby
You just turned your back on the crowd
And you got away, I never once heard you say
I need you, I don't need you
I need you, I don't need you
And all of that jiving around

I don't mean to suggest that I love you the best
I can't keep track of each fallen robin
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
That's all, I don't even think of you that often

Leonard Cohen never won a Grammy for his own work until after he died. Lana is still yet to win a Grammy. Why is it that great storytellers are ignored by the Grammys?

For those who don't know, this is a Leonard Cohen cover. I recommend listening to that version as well (was written about his relationship with Janis Joplin). I would love to here your opinions on which version you guys like best....just curious.

Makes me miss smoking in the morning by myself in the cold outside my farm truck ....so spiritual for some reason knowing it’s killing me and I’m ok with that

    I like how everyone is here because of their sad past and I'm here crying that i can't play my gacha game ;-;

  15. K.... V....

How am I now just finding out about this song?!?

    K.... V....

This song was written by Leonard cohen. A beautiful man, poet and songwriter. He wrote it about Janis Joplin. Check them out you be on a great journey.

    K.... V....

Jan jones thanks! I for sure will

Love Lana so much. Her voice is so timeless.
If anyone is LF some more incredible music and is open to hearing a brand new artist check Mariel out, I found her recently

  17. c.... ....

Lana saying my name it’s like a dream come true😍

  18. B.... N....

I really love this cover, and I hope she writes some songs similar to this. Instrumentally and melodically, that is, with simple instrumentation and arrangement. Her super extra electra pop pieces kind of take away from her voice, but she has a voice of gold so I hope she'll try to capitalize more on that in the future. No shade to Summertime Sadness or This is What Makes us Girls and all of that jazz, but I'd just like to see her write some songs that are more stripped down.

    B.... N....

I feel like you may haven't heard a lot of her songs maybe? She does this similar structure kind of a lot.

  19. J.... S....

  25. L.... A....

Man...Jeff Buckley stole Hallelujah, and (to me at least) Lana stole this song from Leonard Cohen...This stays the main version in my mind, and Leonard's version is just 2nd...amazing tune!

The lyrics are so deeply sincere and relatable I can't even. This is how love feels folks.

  86. J.... L....

Well done for taking Leonard Cohen's song on, he's hard to match up to! Brilliant job as always, beautiful song! Of course he sang this for Janice J but can be applied to any desperate performer on the streets to get themselves somewhere and to achieve their dreams then once there they're still there but not..heartbreaking really cos it's like no one cares really...whatever position you're in..

  87. M.... L....

I can't believe some people try to twerk to this version of the song. Such a travesty! Lana is so beautiful and her voice is timeless.
