Deep Purple - Fortuneteller Lyrics

Cast your eyes into the crystal
Deep inside the mystery
Is that a vision of a lonely man
I fear it looks a lot like me
Is that a man without a woman
Whose empty life is but a shell
Empty hearts will echo
Forever in the wishing well

Fortuneteller
You've got to help me find an end to the nightmare
'Cause I can't stand this pain and the curse of time
Somewhere in your eyes I'll find the answer
Give me the truth I've been looking for
Be my guiding light, I'll take my chances
Turn the card, seal my fate, close the door

Some days come with a vengeance
Some days I feel so bad
The mirror holds no secrets
I lost the best thing that I had

Fortuneteller
Can you help me to see, is there an end to the sorrow
Or was this slow ride to nowhere always meant to be
Somewhere in your eyes I'll find the answer
Give me the truth I've been looking for
Be my guiding light, I'll take my chances
Turn the card, seal my fate, close the door

She always taking more than she'd need
But we were both to blame somehow
In the heat of the moment I told her to leave
I guess I lost more than I found
But I remember ...

Why this lp was and is so underrated. Great epic AOR songs in it. Def leppard wouldn't made that better

Just amazing voice and Ritchie Blackmore's guitar playing, you cannot get any better than this.

I just can't get enough of this song and this album. I am a hardcore fan of Purple and Ritchie and this album is my all the time favorite. I totally agree that In Rock, machine Head , Perfect Strangers are all strong but Slaves & Masters is different because of JLT voice and his lyrics. This song is story of my life alongside of King of Dreams.

Turner is absolutely awesome here, although this album hasn´t the Purple essence

    P.... Z....

Decent album on its own right but as a Purple album its a bit too poppy.

JLT was never suited to Deep Purple and thats why a lot of fans called the band Deep Rainbow when Joe was in it. Even Roger Glover didn't want him in the band. They should have stood up to Ritchie sooner than they did and picked a more suitable singer.

    And it is still
the awesome album in Deep Purple history.

Sounded well suited to me. His voice was not at all the problem. It's how one fits in characteristically. He did not. It all came out on the stage. But it wasn't bad at all in the studio. However, still NO other voice comes close in this band to Gillan. Each and everyone of them had a couple and a half years to prove it to his over 30 spent in the band, including the first singer who hasn't been seen since 1980. They could not hand pick a better singer because Ritchie had him waiting in the wings in case he needed him. Auditions took place but don't believe everything you read, he wasn't even let go 9released from his contract) from the organization after Rainbow split, until 1987 when he wound up with Yngwie. Revealed by JLT himself. Blackmore is just plain weird, period.

Outstanding song! In my humble opinion, "Slaves and Masters" has always been the best and the only choice in Deep Purple collection since the reunion in '84. Maybe, it reminds a bit more of "Rainbow" than "Deep Purple", but still it will be one of my favorite albums forevermore.

    Mouse Mouseville couldn't agree more

No ways! There have been better albums of Deep Purple than this. 'Shades of Deep Purple', 'Burn', 'Machinehead', 'Fireball' et al are some of their best!
