Deep Purple - First Sign Of Madness Lyrics

Somebody tell me
Why I'm talking to myself
I never listen to a word I say
Nor does anyone else
Somebody ask me
If I have any doubt
Maybe yes, maybe no
It's something to think about

The first sign of madness
Is talking to yourself
When I'm deep in conversation
Boy it sure is hard to tell
You're gonna have to put me down
You don't know where I've been
You can't imagine in your wildest dreams
The kind of shit we're in

Rambling on again
No-one's listening
On and on again
Don't believe a single word

Deep Purple First Sign Of Madness Comments
  1. B.... B....

Is this cover or their song?

  2. J.... k....

It's a nice song and it sounds like a song on Bananas or Rapture but it wouldn't really work on NowWhat?!.

  3. M.... U....

    Amazing! Love Purple!

  4. G.... R....

    I. WANT. THIS. SONG. Where is it available?

    G.... R....

    Gabriel Rizzo youtube :)

Steve Morse revived Deep Purple, there's no question about that. I've been playing guitar for 36 years now and I'm an old school Blackmore deciple and even I can acknowledge how big of an impact Steve has had on the band.

@James Kinder I'd agree that he's a cool guy but there are some mediocre and even bad albums with him, but I'm not blaming him for that at all. Now What?! is imo their strongest album with him.

+James K. Purpendicular and ABandOn are perfect in every way, masterpieces, frankly. They could have ended ABO on a new song and kept the refreshed Bl"u"dsucker for a B side, but apart that it's top noth musician ship with great ideas all along, great lyrics, and a unifiying vision.

After that, there are the albums without Lord (well he contributed a bit to Bananas but not a lot). On these albums the approach was more to propose a mixed bag, and to have a very "natural" sound, it works very well for the most part, on all 3 of those albums, there a some fillers, but they're always in the "killer filler" cathegory for me.

Very fair statement. No wonder he's in the band for a longer period that Blackmore. And it appears his positive attitude is equally important, because Blackmore's constant bitching in the end really affected the band's output in a very bad way. I still look back with a good feeling at the old albums, but the separation of Blackmore and Purple was a good thing, in the same way that Waters leaving Pink Floyd all of a sudden opened new possibilities. There are positive separations, there are negative ones: Dio leaving Rainbow was a bad thing for that band, that never really recovered from it. The good news were a number of damn good Dio albums.

@Benoit Vanhees Agreed. As great of a guitarist and composer he is, Blackmore's attitude and personality sucks and the band must have felt a major weight off their backs when Ritchie bailed. You can see it in their attitudes when they talk in interviews. They are having fun, actually having fun and that's great.

  6. A.... P....

    Deep Purple rules!!!

  7. N.... G....

guitar sound is not very good - cool track tough

  8. M.... ....

Just found the Gold Edition for $19.99 at Best Buy with this track included and a 2nd disc (Now What?! Live Tapes). This album is up there with Machine Head, Perfect Strangers, and Purpendicular, for me.

    M.... ....

Purpendicular and Now What !? is in a fight for the best Steve Morse era of Deep Purple in my book. It's really nice that a band can be around for so long and still make such a good album!

    M.... ....

    Yep, Georg, I agree.

    M.... ....

    True, and Infinite
