Decemberists, The - Oceanside Lyrics

Sweet Annabelle,
As seen reclining on an ocean swell
As the waves do lather up to lay her down 'til she's fast and sleeping.
Oh well, I guess I'm something of a ne'er-do-well- who fell asleep at the pealing of the steeple bell.
I'm on track and keeping.

But oh, if I could only get you oceanside,
to lay your muscles wide,
it'd be heavenly.
& oh, if I could only coax you overboard,
to leave these lulling shores,
to get you oceanside.
Oceanside. Oceanside. oh.

At rising tide, you're looking fresher than a July bride.
We're picking up what our mothers always stigmatized.
The field is right for reaping.
Oh well, I guess I'm something of a ne'er do well,
even though that's something I could never do well.
I'm on track and keeping.

But oh, if I could only get you oceanside,
to lay your muscles wide,
it'd be heavenly.
Oh, if I could only coax you
overboard,
to leave these lulling shores,
to get you oceanside.
Oceanside. Oceanside. oh.

I always heard it was about convincing his lady to commit suicide with him.

    N.... n....

Delbert Dennis really? Never thought of it like that but I don't think he writes that literally I always see tons of meanings even in just one line but could be possible

  6. S.... C....

This is a nice song. I listen to it when I feel misdirected. The Decemberists rule in all months!, apparently...

  7. N.... B....

A song that conjures up the happiest times in my life.

    N.... B....

Have you ever listened to Stornoway? They're sort of a folk band as well and they always conjure up feelings of nostalgia and simplier times for me

It's all about sex, just realised that

    A.... ....

All love songs are all about sex. Know what? Life is about sex. Everything. is. sex.

One of my favorite songs. This song is about Poe's poem or not?

  10. h.... ....

Everyone thinks that it's about the poem about Annabelle Lee but if you look up the lyrics they spell it differently they spell it Anabelle

  11. r.... ....

there are no words to describe how much I love this song

Every time this song comes on my playlist... i remember how much i miss the ocean. Then i get sad.

  14. J.... S....

    What is the poem,

  15. T.... F....

    So you're saying:

"This song is about Poe's Annabell
If you ever read the poem you could tell."

    Nice ditty bro! xx

  16. I.... R....

I don't understand why so many people think this is based on Poe's poem Annabel Lee. Other than the name Annabel and some references to the beach, this song has nothing in common with the poem.

  17. J.... ....

    Same here!

  18. A.... ....

Wonder what Poe would think :D

  19. T.... C....

    Hello old comments!

Lol wtf this shit is wack

  24. K.... W....

I've got an unhealthy obsession with Annabel Lee, so when I saw the name of this song before listening I thought to myself 'It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, that a maiden there lived whom you may know by the name of Annabel Lee.' Then, when I heard the first two words, I literally shrieked of excitement and surprise. New favourite song <3

  25. M.... ....

Poe and Indie Rock?! AH! I had no idea this coud be done! *Swoon*

  26. L.... ....

@VladDracu3 It certainly should be able to. It's all about trying to convince Ms. Annabelle to have sex with him.

  27. J.... Y....

    So chill.

  28. J.... M....

the first time i heard this i was very high and my friend played it he was very drunk but it was one of the most beautiful things i every heard.
