DeBarge - Give It Up Lyrics

I see you looking out a broken window
Another rainy day
I see you looking for a face, but I know that
She's miles away
I know you're searching your imagination
'Til the morning light
I know you're searching for an explanation
A simple reason why

I want you to know
That she was never known to be
A lover to ever come on
She treated you cold
And if you ever want to be recovered
You'd better let go

You've got to give it up
I know you're strong enough
To break out of this mountain of lies
You've got to give it up
Go on and live it up
Kick her out of your life
Or you never will ever survive

I see you dialing all the combinations
That seven numbers can be
A simple process of elimination
And in your heart you believe
She will be the one who answers saying
She'll be in right away
But all the nickels and the dimes you're paying
You're throwing away

I want you to know
That she was never known to be
A lover to ever come on
She treated you cold
And if you ever want to be recovered
You'd better let go

You've got to give it up
I know you're strong enough
To break out of this mountain of lies
You've got to give it up
Go on and live it up
Kick her out of your life
If you're gonna survive

You've got to give it up
I know you're strong enough
To break out of this mountain of lies
You've got to give it up
Go on and live it up
Kick her out of your life
Or you never will ever survive
[repeat and fade]

I been a big fan Debarge even back when went with the name Switch back in 1978. I been listening to their music for a long been not to mention the title song Rhythmn of the Night was also in the 1985 movie Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon with Tammak as Bruce Leroy which is an adaptation of two Bruce Lee Movies Enter the Dragon and Chinese Connection.

    @Willie Seals III

It's not Switch that became DeBarge, or something like that. Switch and DeBarge were two different groups, well distinct from each other, who led their carreers around the same time/era...that is to say : 1978 till 1984 for Switch and 1980 till 1987 for DeBarge. Only, there was one common point : DeBarge was composed of 5 of the DeBarge brothers (and sister); while in Switch, there were again two other siblings from the DeBarge family : Tommy and Bobby. Tommy and Bobby left Switch for good, around 1981/82 (being replaced by new members), and in 1987, Bobby eventually joined his brothers in DeBarge, the group thus turning from a five-piece group to a quartet, since members Eldra and Bunny had left earlier around 1986/87...But Switch had never been DeBarge. But being a big fan, you already knew that, I suppose...

Clever and groovy synth work :-)

    s.... e....

Especially in the beginning and second verse, with the saxophone. I'm hooked on that alone and I wish the entire song just went with it...

    s.... e....

Megared82 I guess they didn’t want to overdo it. The sax is a very powerful instrument

  17. m.... ....

DeBarge was the best of the 80's... their sound and style was unlike anything else
