One of my favourite DG songs, right up there with TPTB. To me it's also one of their most personal songs alongside On GP, as although it has no overt references to suicide or such, Ride is still vulnerable as hell in a downward spiralling trajectory which picks up throughout the track. It also explores the Jekyll and Hyde narrative that I keep hearing in the album (maybe a reach), where in the chorus it's like Ride is shouting 'You wanna kill somebody,' representing his DG persona, and the high pitched voice saying 'I'm afraid to be here with you,' representing everyday Stefan who's afraid to be with Ride because Ride keeps highlighting his depression through DG and is sort of stopping Stefan from suicide, putting a backspin on the idea that the loud one is the most dangerous. This is probably far from true but it's what I take away from it. All in all though, I feel like this song is what all of DG has been leading up to. It's as triumphant as it is depressive and when Ride says "Bolt to crystal fields of Ketamine" to explain substance abuse as a coping mechanism gets me every time.
