Have a look at "Dark Country" as a search on Youtube.  I'm into a very eclectic range of music myself not only modern but some classical and even tuvan throat singing and native American, taiko drumming you name it but if you're a metal head who likes these guys, try "Dark Western" and related stuff. You'll love some of that.

Same here. I listen mostly to punk and death metal. But a real music fan or a musician knows talent when you hear it. These guys are talent and originality personified. Its so goddamn hard to find real talent and originality these days. I crave it and it's a very rare thing. But when you find it, you know, and for me personally, its inspiring as hell.

I hadn't played my guitar in 6 years, for various reasons. I listened to 3 Dead South songs and had to dust that bitch off. I've written 8 songs in the last month and I'm playing at least 2 or 3 hours a day again. I feel like I'm alive again. It was a combination of influences that brought me back to life but Dead South was one of the big ones. I actually feel like I owe them a debt. . .they've made my life better.

@Gage Pitrone - it makes me think of what I believe is a Native American analogy where you have a light wolf and a dark wolf and you must arbitrate between them. Although in the song it doesn't seem to differentiate.

(on a side note, in the Norse tradition Odin has 2 wolves, and in ancient Greek philosophy there's the analogy of a light and a dark horse pulling a chariot, with the dark horse being passionate and wanting to go his own direction whereas the white horse tries to stay on course. The more ya know!)
