Have not heard this in years ....amazing again ....
A small story regarding DCD .
They played in Denver in 1988 at a place called The Ogden Theatre .
At the time I was operating a used book store across the alley on the same side of the street .
The theatre was a recently renovated old movie theatre and had only had a few shows ... DCD was a very early show .. and the owner was nice enough to let me go over in the aftrernoon prior to the performance to watch them do a sound check . Needless to say , it was fascinating and probably got to see some unique things .. though mostly forgotten . I do remember Lisa and Brendan pissing at each other quite a bit.. they obviously weren't getting along .
Also ... their road manager.. a Peter Grant type prick walked right up to where I was sitting and asked " Who are You ? " ... i told him and didn't move . He couldn't seem to do anything about it , since I worked next door and knew the manager .
The show was amazing and there must have been 20 musicians playing all sorts of acoustic instuments . Lisa was dressed in a strange , overly long ornate ' cape ' that dragged along the floor .. , and delivered all the songs from behind a weird podium ...

Looking for words to say. Could not find some. This song is an absolute gem. Probably the most beautiful one from Dead can Dance. I had the privilege to see them in concert in 1984 in Marseille (France). Brendan Perry’s spectral voice is a God’s gift in my humble view. A truly unrivaled masterpiece which will cross the barriers of time....

I tried to figure out the meaning of the song lyrics, but coudn´t - however a stunningly beautiful song. I heared them back in 1987 in Berlin - had a small room in an old house in Berlin ....

So pretentious and heavy-handed...and his singing is distinctly lacking in nuance and expressiveness, he sounds bored and unengaged in the songs....orchestration is bombastic...am so disappointed...Lisa Gerrard brought me here, what a letdown to find most of the songs are sung by this droll zombie

Paradise Lost are my favourite band and to know they covered this is appreciated as Dead Can Dance were and still possibly are among their influences

Nick and Steve told me the reason they omitted part of the song was because they had little time to edit it after the album was fully mixed and this was during my first meet and greet with Paradise Lost in 2008

I actually first heard Paradise Lost's cover of Xavier and honestly its my all time favorite song. Now that I hear the original, its equally beautiful! *Don't kill me but I kind of like PL's version more because of the dark vibe*

As much as I like this version, I also prefer the dark heaviness of PL's cover - also their cover of Small Town Boy on the same record.

I 2nd that as Paradise Lost are my favourite band anyway. When I asked Nick Holmes and Steve Edmondson about the missing line in their take, they told me that they didn't have time to make anymore changes and this was just before they released the album.
