Dayseeker - A God Without A Face Lyrics

God won't speak to me, I'm not sure he was ever listening
All those years asking for help but I was simply talking to myself
Not worthy of your grace, I'm done seeking out a god who won't show his face

Hell awaits all those who won't follow blindly
Lead astray, abandoned, no promise of salvation
Every person put to death in the name of your god,
Is it actually worth all of the blood spilled?

Where was god when my heart was split into separate pieces?
He's too busy to pay me any of his attention
He must be dead to stay quiet when I needed guidance for so long
I will carry your cross no longer

This has to end when I know you don't exist here
No words, no signs to instill in me what is right
I ripped these pages up and mourned the death of god
Nothing to contemplate, your savior's not awake

I don't want heaven or hell when my life ends
You call it unconditional love, I call it nothing but unwavering deceit
I'm terrified to admit this but I swear that I'm finished with you
I've lost my faith, not lost my way
You parted the red sea, but you couldn't show yourself to me
Will we burn in hell or will we simply rot in the ground here

Dayseeker A God Without A Face Comments
  1. X.... H....

I can relate to all the words he says , "All those years asking for help, but I was simply talking to myself" .

  2. H.... H....

Isn't metal the devils music so isn't a metal core Christian band kind of ironic? Still I like the sound of these guys.

  3. N.... 1....

I used to wholeheartedly believe in God. but now I don't... not that much anymore. Everybody says he's working in my life. but I can't feel him anymore. and they sad thing is.... maybe I never did

  4. D.... C....

This song is about Jaqen H'ghar from Game of Thrones.

    D.... C....

    hahahaha no doubt

  5. _.... M....

"I will carry a cross no longer."
    I guess his bones broke.
Whoever's perspective this is written from.
    Beautiful song.

Dayseeker, I am a Christian, but I still love this album, you guys are an amazing band, and make some stellar music. I myself have struggled with my faith as well, everyone does, it's not an easy thing. I support you through all this and whatever path life takes you on, but just felt like sharing my personal knowledge. When I was struggling with my faith, I read "Pale Blue Dot" by Carl Sagan (an atheistic book) and I ended up actually finding god within the lines, you may want to give it a try. And one last thing, whoever tells you to follow God "blindly" is a fool. You must always question everything. A leader wants to be followed because he is loved, not feared or followed just because his followers are told to. We were never put here to follow blindly, and yeah life is gona get really difficult along the way. I'm sorry you're in a rough patch

    R.... E....

Comments like this are what make me respect religious people. It sounds so much more legit when put like this.

    R.... E....

I'm agnostic myself, but I highly recommend reading Contact by Carl Sagan if you want Sagan's most spiritual take. Gotta read to the end though.

There's nothing wrong with being an atheist in the first place. This vocalist isn't one, but there would be nothing wrong with him if he was. He shouldn't need to defend it and he certainly shouldn't equate atheism with satanism, nor should anyone. Newsflash, atheists don't believe in Satan either. Also one doesn't need hard times to turn away from god. You can be atheist and perfectly happy and stable. In fact most are. Try getting some perspective on the world and see things outside your own bubble. And please, for the love of your god, stop telling atheists you hope they find Christ and you'll pray for them, it's offensive. Why? Because you're saying something is wrong with them and the way they are living and that they need help. We don't. Have a nice day.

    S.... R....

+Sean Reeves I agree with you in most of your statement, except when you ask Christians not to expect others to know Jesus, because we once were atheist like other people, and if we want you to know Jesus it s because it s the best thing that ever happen to us, but it doesn t means that you re life it s wrong unless you consider your own life wrong, we respect your life style and you can do what you ever want with it. Have a nice day ;)

  8. R.... W....

    22.222 vieuws xD

  9. U.... N....

I like this song a lot. Reminds me of my internal struggles about religion during my youth.

I have completely turned atheist now and I deny the existence of God. I don't mind other people's belief though, until they get into a debate or argument with me about evolution and science. hehe

  10. C.... R....

I wonder if he actually ever asked for help

  11. C.... M....

This song kicks ass , btw I'm over here on team atheism

  12. a.... ....

_"He must be dead to stay quiet when I needed guidance for so long. I will carry your cross no longer."_

Heartbreaking. Regardless of your religious views, these lyrics are well written. I'm glad he wrote this song, even if I disagree with its theology.

  13. u.... ....

so the ultimate question here is...

which song do y'all like more?

  14. L.... G....

    the best band

  15. G.... ....

love seeing all the religious bungholes getting upset.. lol. Dope song.

  16. d.... ....

The lyrics are so questioning and so powerful, we have missed you guys welcome back...

  17. S.... N....

Gotta love this band. Honest, creative, and artistic. I hope these ignorant youtube comments don't coax them to write more listener friendly songs in the future. Never change

  18. N.... N....

Guys, please read what Dayseeker IVR said about this song! It is from another perspective and not his own.

  19. D.... B....

So before any more ridiculous feedback or commentary comes along claiming us to be atheists or disbelievers, I figured I'd make a post to clear the air.

The whole thing to understand with song writing is that I am not always writing from MY perspective and MY beliefs. Sometimes I like to do my best to climb into someone else's skin and write from their perspective. Obviously on 'Spotless Mind', I know I am not Jim Carrey in 'Eternal Sunshine', I am simply writing off that story and how I interpret him feeling. Not to say every song off of 'Origin' is written that way because 90% of it IS my experiences and my personal feelings.

Full honesty, I struggle with my faith in a higher being quite often and I wanted to write a song that portrayed a man who had completely lost his faith. But I do have days where I see the beauty and complex design of the world we live in and it feels hard to deny some ultimate creator must exist.

This song is sort of an antagonist to 'Hollow Shell', if you will. As much as I knew this track may rub people the wrong way, I wrote it because it's how I feel and these songs are a catharsis for my struggles and hopefully can help other people with similar issues. Anyway, just mainly wanted to reassure everyone that we are not worshipping Satan and do still have faith in a higher being. Much love to everyone regardless.

@kennediens You are so spot on! Doctrines and dogma can indeed become slave mentalities and slave philosophies, especially when exercised with little to no constraint and/or objectivity. People need consider alternatives to bronze and iron age philosophies that are antiquated agents of regress instead of progress.

I give Rory credit for taking a different perspective on this issue; I know he mentioned in his interview that this song is more or less a sonic counterpart to their song, "Hollow Shell," but with lyrical content that takes the opposite perspective. It's sad that people are disappointed with a songwriter who is exercising versatility in lyrical themes and content. I think Rory should be praised for being this bold, brave and honest.

    D.... B....

@Dayseeker IVR I know the understanding, I did not always have my faith but I do know the struggles when your at your lowest and when your at your highest.

    D.... B....

+Dayseeker IVR Thanks for the honesty and transparency that you are trying to portray!

    D.... B....

+Dayseeker IVR As an Atheist myself I appreciate the lyrics of this song and the open mindedness you guys have shown by writing this. This song reflects many of the things Atheists go through. I am becoming a huge fan of your music as well.

    D.... B....

+Dayseeker IVR you guys are so awesome

  20. g.... ....

For those of you who want the skinny about Rory and the new album, go watch the interview with cayeminterviews. He sets the record straight.

  21. J.... M....

+KAY BLADE learn how to english, dude.

  22. K.... B....

Guys god exist .......and WTF with this lyrics i love this band but now i dont know what happen ?shit that he talking a bout i love god and u are so wrong in this lyrics dont lose ur faith in god BECAUSE WITH GOD WE ARE NOTHING ......this is life sadness and happnesse u should live with it

  23. A.... ....

It's sad people actually give a shit about what their views on religion are, if he want's to sing about his feelings. He sure as hell fucking can if he wishes to, fake ass Dayseeker fans.

  24. s.... ....

I don't know why everyone feels sorry or sad for Rory.  We ALL go through these same emotions.  If I wanted to listen to something "uplifting" I would, but this is just pure music beauty.  This whole album is.  I am so glad Dayseeker made this album, it's a beautiful work of art.

  25. F.... ....

I don't understand the flack Rory is getting. People change, whether it's for the better or not is really just subjective. You shouldn't be mad that someone chose to believe something different than you and you shouldn't be upset. If you listen to Rory's older lyrics, he seemed like he was on the edge of disbelief anyway. Everybody has the choice to what they will and won't believe, and should be thought of no differently for that choice. I still shared the same respect for Rory when he wrote more spiritually, even though that is not what I align my beliefs with, and I'll continue to support him and anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation.

    F.... ....

@***** Passive aggression is a common trait of someone who's argument has no legs to stand on.

    F.... ....

First off Omni, it just baffles me when people like you try and speak on my behalf like you have even the slightest clue of my knowledge of religion, or my faith in God in general. The lyrics aren't meant to be taken literally, I'm not expecting to see god's face in my lifetime, it's just a more masked way of saying that sometimes, I see no trace of God here on earth. Secondly, with all that being said, I merely wanted to write the song from the perspective of an individual who has completely lost their faith. On most days, I do have a sincere faith in a god, but I'm allowed to explore writing from the position of someone else other than myself. If you listen to Spotless Mind, obviously I'm not Jim Carrey from Eternal Sunshine, I'm doing my best to write from HIS perspective. And it's a similar situation in this song. Just wanted to make that clear to everyone before they start spreading the word that I'm an atheist while using spinach and mustard metaphors to back up their case.

    F.... ....

Plus, I'm more of a ketchup guy anyway.

    F.... ....

@Dayseeker IVR I have such a high amount of respect for you Rory. I hope to see you live someday and get to converse with you and shake your hand. Oh, and I'm more of a ketchup guy too haha.

    F.... ....

@Dayseeker IVR Actually Rory, saying ketchup is better than mustard may be the most blasphemous thing you've ever said.

But seriously, I meant no offense. It's obvious you're a cool person. I struggled as an atheist for 6 or 7 years of my life. Anyways, God bless. \m/

  26. J.... R....

This album, and this song specifically, make me sad. I love Dayseeker, and I loved that Rory put his faith into his lyrics with the last album, and now that's all gone. I was shocked at the lyrical content of the singles, and now I read the lyrics to this and I am really disappointed. I'm still going to listen to this album but my view of Rory has changed a little for sure.

    J.... R....

    Dumbass

  27. I.... S....

Compare Hollow Shell with this song... what happened?:(

    I.... S....

@_ MyM4 _  I rather not be courteous to religious people. Look around you, everything bad thats happening is because of religion. So please. fuck off

    I.... S....

    Guys just enjoy the song!

    I.... S....

@MrKaidalen My friend, that is one religion, of which is extreme, crazy, and stupid. We are Christians and we WE, and I mean only the Christians do this, is that we tell you about God because we want you to go to Heaven, its cause we care about you. This is my last stand, and I'll leave now.

    I.... S....

listen to the album Son of The Morning and the Ep. Titans by Oh Sleeper. They touch on the same subjects. it's not technically his view. it's just a potential struggle that many people have gone through.

    I.... S....

    @David Duncan This is true.

  28. F.... ....

God Does Listen. He Loves you man.
No Matter if you lose your faith He Will Always Be There For you.

    F.... ....

@Forever_Flawed_Official LOL....I feel bad for you. Become an Atheist and open your eyes.

    F.... ....

@MrKaidalen quit being so ignorant. I'm an atheist myself but I respect everyone for what they believe in. It's just pathetic on your part, stop giving atheists a bad name.

    F.... ....

I agree i hope all the athiest on your comment can find christ

    F.... ....

    @Josue Samaniego I love you.

    F.... ....

    @Tal Davidson no.

  29. D.... G....

I really love this guys and the way Rory writes, but i don't know what i feel with this lyrics, i hope that if Rory ever have faith he understands that God is everything and everywhere.

    D.... G....

@David Gil LOL, become atheist and open your eyes. religion is bad and your fake deity is bad also.

    D.... G....

@MrKaidalen LOL? No thanks man, I already have my eyes open.

    D.... G....

+David Gil Lol, no you don't.

  30. J.... C....

    That's sad

  31. O.... C....

Sounds like Rory has lost his faith in God.

    O.... C....

That's why I stopped listening to them... I honestly thought they were a "christian" they're first album was absolutely great! Knowing that these guys will bring out a positive message especially on 'Hollow Shell' but yet I was stoked about they're new album the next thing I know some of their songs were complete opposite & confusing im like you gotta be fudging kidding me!? Yea so I stopped listening to them like they totally are spitting at Gods face when I heard one of these songs. Im a Christian & there are curtain bands that I'll listen to, just not bands like these who diss God & bring out negativity smh .-.

    O.... C....

@gamonmiguel05 I think he's struggling with understanding God. Rory isn't a bad person. We gotta show compassion and empathy man.

    O.... C....

@gamonmiguel05 hes not spitting on gods face, hes just really confused on what to believe... im atheist and if i were in a band, i wouldnt make songs about things against god. because i know that my fans would get offended, and im sure dayseeker would do the same too.

    O.... C....

@Koala Stump Yeah i agree with you man, thanks for clarifying it lol but your exactly right that if u were in a band i like that

    O.... C....

@Omni Codex yeah true that man, we all struggle but idk i just pray about it.

  32. W.... L....

    Awesome!!!!
