Dawes - My Way Back Home Lyrics

A ballerina in Phoenix
The pines up north
The sunrise from a highway
That was not there before

If I can place it all together
Make out the nature of the call
I start to feel the love and the silence
That was always at the root of it all

And in my constant quest for truth
I am condemned to facts alone
And though my dreams all lead me nowhere
I won't forget my way back home

From the corner of a coffee shop
Or from the center of a stage
From the words used in a love note
Or from an empty page

While I struggle with these beauties
And my renditions end up dry
I'm like a bird that crashes into the window
That was drawn to the reflection of the sky

And the more I try to speak
The more I lose that earthly tone
And before heaven proves me hopeless
I won't forget my way back home

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

I admit that these answers that I seek
Are all to questions I've never known
But I pray to keep on looking for as long as I can roam
And when the world finally fulfills me
I will not forget my way back home

Best band out right now? Anyone? I know it's a bit bold to say and the last few albums have been different/experimental. I would say that thealbum this song is on (Nothing is Wrong) was only their 2nd album and it might be their best....the most "Dawes" album... Huge fan!!

  4. m.... b....

Griffin is the Robin/Carl/Garfunkel brother that makes harmonies sound so good!

  5. E.... M....

I cry every single time I listen to this song, at least twice, sometimes the whole song thru. An understated work of true genius. Love love love love love...

Taylor & Griffin harmonize so beautifully together.

  15. A.... H....

    Love it...

  16. R.... K....

Man, at times, the camera work in this video is as bad as the the harmonies are good. If it weren't for the warm guitar tone and the vocal synergy, I think I'd have motion sickness.

  17. j.... ....

    Love it

Just as the father was waiting
    for his prodigal Son to return;
    Our heavenly Father is waiting
    for us to return
when we have wandered away from His fold..
He's right there waiting with open arms
    because He loves us
and does not want us to drown in our sorrows,
    nor perish in our sins.
    He loves us so much,
He sent is Son to die in our place,
to pay the penalty for our sin:
    mine the sin, His the sacrifice;
mine the sin, His the pain;.
mine the sin, but His death.
"The wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord."(Romans 6:23)

  26. D.... S....

I totally agree! The harmonies in sibling band Sons of Bill are also amazing, for example.

  27. L.... ....

Don't twins usually come in "twos"? LOL

  28. B.... E....

Nice Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe. Man, does that guitar have TONE.

  29. B.... E....

    No.....

  30. B.... E....

I think Goldsmith(the brother's last name) is Jewish, isnt it? Doesnt matter, just saying.

  31. M.... R....

I saw Dawes live, opening for Bob Dylan. They seemed tired. It was, I believe, their last night opening on that leg of the tour, so I'm sure they WERE tired. They seemed to get in their groove towards the end of the set, though, and they remain one of the best bands I've heard out of the past decade or so. Vocals..amazing. Lyrics..inspiring. I'm definitely a big Dawes fan now!

  32. m.... ....

I keep hearing that song from the movie, "Rock Star" called "We all die young". I really like this song though, if I ignore the preaching in it. "When I am condemned to facts alone, when my dreams all lead me nowhere, I won't forget my way back home" So this song seems to say that he can go have his search for truth, but it is for no point, as it always comes back to the unexplained being explained by clinging to no reality at all, religion, Christian I assume.

  33. m.... ....

    Christian Rock?

  34. T.... ....

    is the tuning DADGAD?

    T.... ....

TheSpartiatus drop C I believe. CGCFAC

  35. G.... F....

I've been in love with these guys since I saw them on Letterman, playing Time Spent in Los Angeles. Great harmonies, wonderfully simple guitar work, poignant lyrics, beautiful melodies. I sure hope these guys make it... they deserve it!

  36. P.... M....

have a look at my channel and watch my videos of myself and brother, see what you reckon!

  37. L.... ....

have you listened to The Staves yet? 3 sisters, totally awesome IMO ;)

  38. W.... P....

Totally agree with you. On our other account "thealternateside907" we have some videos of a band named School of Seven Bells - two twins harmonizing like you wouldn't believe!

  39. s.... ....

Gibson Vintage Roy Smeck Stage De Luxe ... such a killer guitar for such a killer song ... love it ... great band !

  40. J.... ....

    Simon & Garfunkal part 2??

  41. c.... ....

I would have to say this is my favorite Dawes song. And this is my favorite version.
Who needs drugs when you have Dawes.

  42. m.... ....

    So. Beautiful.

  43. f.... ....

i said you cant look for it on mtv and the radio

  44. s.... 2....

  45. K.... F....

I’m like a bird that crashes into the window :)

  46. m.... ....

    wonderful

  47. f.... ....

there is plenty of it, you just cant look for it on mtv and the radio, you actually have to search for it.

  48. e.... ....

I keep coming back to this video for this very reason - the harmonies here are so lovely.

  49. m.... ....

I am in love with Dawes music

  50. A.... ....

Well, I know what song I'm learning next.

  51. r.... ....

OK - new fan here. They are the greatest. When I heard them on the radio the first time, I thought it was Jackson Browne. That's the highest honor in my book.

  52. T.... ....

Dawes is truly amazing!!! Check out THE SUBJECTIVE PERSPECTIVE... amazing duo!!!

  53. e.... ....

Just when I thought this generation wasn't going to be able to produce true quality male singing! Keep it up, boys!

  54. M.... J....

    They are dawsome!

  55. M.... L....

I love how they swap harmonies toward the end of the song. There's not one bad song this group does.

  56. C.... R....

I figured it out, it was a drop D. this band is amazing

  57. C.... R....

what key did he tune his guitar in for this song?

  58. w.... ....

You guys are incredible! Just plain raw talent!
