Most versions of standards from that era nearly always find their very finest expressions in the Sammy Davis Jr. version. This guy was a singer's singer, a dancer's dancer and a showman's showman. Absolutely exceptional and far, far greater than all his peers, Sinatra included.

Simply, Mr. Davis was the most talented entertainer of the 20th Century; not to mention the racial hatred he had to endure as he broke barriers left and right, as well as the devastating car accident, which took his eye. But he kept moving forward and sharing that incredible gift of his multi talent: singer, dancer, actor, impressionist, and player of too many instruments to list. Thank you Mr. Davis. RIP. Gone too soon...

I had the honour of seeing Sammy Davis Jr live in a one man concert at The O’Keefe Centre in Toronto in the 1960s. There has been as talented a performer . He had it all - voice , phrasing , dancing , acting and drummer . Wow!

Seriously so passionate and authentic, just like all of his songs, sounding like he wrote it from himself and from his heart (even if this wasn’t even from his show it just proves his capability)

In the intro, and during the B section, someone is way off in the band! I strongly suspect Sammy caught them off guard, and the trumpet section seem to be the worst culprits. Listen to the chord at 40 secs. The trumpet at 2:01 and 3:18. Sammy was not well served here by the band on this occasion. Anyone know who was responsible?

Sammy was probably the most humble guy in the entertainment business. He was an exceptional singer. He could dance very well and his acting, both comediec and dramatic, were above reproach. He deserved more noteriety then he actually received,. Maybe because of race. But nevertheless, he will go down as one of the greatest performers of all time.

These have always been my sentiments, exactly. In my opinion, he was one of the greatest singers of the 20th century...both he and Nat King Cole deserved so very much more respect and recognition than both received when they were still with us. They were truly musical treasures, the likes we will never see again...

His dancing was a lot better than very good, it was superlative.

Sammy used to refer to himself as a "short, ugly, one-eyed black Jew". Actually, those are all correct except ugly. He was actually quite handsome when he was young.

My brother has always said sammy was the greatest entertainer of all time. While I don't really agree, I kinda find it hard to think of a reason not to! I mean is there anything this man couldn't do? He was so talented.

I hold him in leagues above the rest of the rat pack. His immersion in a song and the heart he poured into them, was something lacking from Frank...in my opinion at least. Frank got a bit full of himself.
