My parents had this in their record collection (of 5 or 6 45 RPM records) along with some other eclectic choices. I was about 6 years old and I'd play them all, over and over and copy every note and inflection. I LOVE this song. It's just so swingin', cat.

easily the best rendition of this song..both the vocal by Davis and the orchestra arrangement.....Sinatra's version..too fast, Bing's version..too dull....this is Sammy's song... and those sexy saxes and hot brass......

+Brian Collins Hi Brian, Agree entirely with what you write. Sinatra's too fast. One thing I hadn't noticed until recently is how true Davis was to the written music. Plus, he has such a clear tone, and perfectly in tune. I also hadn't known how many songs that Mercer also wrote the music to. An aside, I wonder why Davis always stayed so thin throughout his life? Great performer.

Perfectly in tune except when he wanted to sing off-key dapeck. I was just listening to him singing Love Me Or Leave Me, what a vocal talent - the compleat singer/musician. And yeah, thin too - I should be so skinny : )

dapeck60 I guess Davis in his Vaudeville days with the Will Mastin Trio skipped meals because they couldn't afford it when they were on the road performing.
