Davis Jr., Sammy - I Want To Be With You Lyrics

I wanna be with you
I wanna be with you
After all the nights of wanting you
Lying there loving you
Hating you tonight
I'm touching you
Holding you
Well your gonna see
We'll make out somehow
Here's my girl and me
They cant hurt us now
We're gonna have it all

I'll love you everyday
Honey, life couldn't be
So great for us
Here's our chance
It's not to late for us
Grab it fast or life won't wait for us

I wanna be with you
I wanna be with you
Grab it fast or life won't wait for us
I wanna be with you
I wanna be
With you
I wanna be with you

If there was a “PLOT” to “PROTECT” “CROOKED HILARY” and I AM 2000% BELIEVE AND AM CONVINCED THERE WAS A “CONSPIRACY” TO DEPOSE AND DISRUPT A DULY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. HE HAPPENED TO BE “DONALD TRUMP” SO “WHAT” THIS CRIMINAL ACT “MUST !!! MUST!!! BE PERMITTED TO GO UNPUNISHED!!!! PERIOD

Gloria De Haven was Lorna in the London Production with Sammy Davis Jr.
I dont think a recording was made with the London cast.

    varadero1839

That's sad! So many great productions never were recorded. Last time I saw Gloria was as a beauty parlor customer on "Murder, She Wrote! A little beat-up, but still one of the most knowledgeable and reliable poster here on YT: Hope you'll like his post:

Slendo el exitso y bien reconocido artista completo, 'a la redonda' que fue Sammy Davis Jr., yo todavía creo que fue "underestimated" como cantante. En otras palabras, no se le dió el debido crédito como buen cantante que fue, aparte de sus diferentes facetas como artista.

    magnificent!

  6. Marc Castle

I don't love this version as he plays around with the melody and it's slower and a bit self indulgent. The original is much better, but he was having some trouble with his voice, a bit of laryngitis, so he insisted on rerecording it. (I think for the London album.) His voice may not be as clear, but that version has far more energy and immediacy that this one doesn't. Worth checking out. (I think you can find it on Youtube also.)

Sammy was a golden boy. What an impact his "Golden Boy" had on me. The original cast recording was a 1965 Christmas present to myself. I still have and treasure it.

    Just the best.

I was 15 when I had the good fortune to see and hear Sammy Davis, Jr. sing this song in Golden Boy. I have never heard any other singer in person whose voice enveloped the entire theater with such richness, his voice just washed over me like a great wave and still to this day, I can't forget that moment. I have never heard a recording of him that ever came close to really capturing the true him. Thank you for posting this.

    Hi Kathy Curtis,
Thank you for writing. I've always been a big Sammy fan, and often wondered why he didn't do more with his incredible voice. Sadly, I suspect that he was "over-talented," if such a word exists. In the theatrical world, there was nothing he could not do; sing, dance, act and generally perform perfectly in any theatrical genre. Sammy had a VERY strong singing voice from what I've read. He was perfect in this role! More to follow.
    Grateful once again,

Saw this 3 times when I was 18, this song haunted me for years, I used to sing it in vietnam, memories!

  10. Jane Della Penna

So glad Sammy entertained when I was able to enjoy his talent.  Sad people today won't be able to see him in person.

  11. Joe Lupariello

Thanks for posting.  This is one of the beautiful most theatre songs.  Golden Boy is such an underrated score-  it has so many great songs.  I have the original LP which is quite different from the recording released on CD.  I like the original better-  Sammy Davis didn't riff as much and stayed truer to the score. Apparently the masters were lost- but I wish I could get those recordings is mp3.  His original Night Song was gorgeous.

WOOOOOW...chills, thrills endless goosebumps from start to finish!!!! Such extra-ordinary talent - thanks for sharing!!!

    varadero1839

@quietstorm444 You're welcome! I'm honored that you liked this "oldie!" Said show and "No Strings" caused a lot of controversies in New York back in the day due the inter-racial aspects. Speaking of New York, your screen name is, I think, the name of a radio station I used to listen to when I lived in the NY area. Am I completely off-base?  Either way, why Sugar Ray Robinson never became a movie star is beyond me!
    Best wishes; keep in touch,

  13. LeslyeJoyAllen - JazzMaestra

I was four and a half years old when I saw this Broadway musical starring Sammy Davis, Jr., a young Louis Gossett, Billy Daniels, a young Johnny Brown ("Good Times") and an extremely young Lola Falana.  It was and remains a revelation!!

    varadero1839

    @LeslyeJoyAllen - JazzMaestra Hi JazzMestra,
You're so lucky to have actually seen this! Also, you've one hell of a memory! Truth be told, there are some things that I remember when I was 3-4 myself! At one point I had the "LP," but somebody stole it. As for the performers, Johnny Brown, Lola Falana, Billy Daniels they were a real treat as they were beginning and closing their mutual careers. I'm so grateful that you commented on this clip! Please keep in touch.
    Best regards,
    varadero

Performance is what Sammy Davis was all about,Thanks

    varadero1839

Many thanks my friend! His talent was really limitless! Happy to hear from you!

  15. Armando Ruiz

Wunderbar mein lieber Freund! Ich liebe Sammy.

    varadero1839

Hola mi socio! Como anda? Back in the day I tried to catch Sammy whenever I could, on Hollywood Palace, and similar! It's difficult to imagine any performer artistically who could even come close! I'm thinking Judy Garland may have been one; singer, dancer, actress, all-around performer. I've gotta look! I'm sure there's some video of these 2 artists together. More to follow....

    Armando Ruiz

@varadero1839  I've been kind of busy lately but I've watch all your postings wherever I've gone to.  I'm back in Miami now for a while and will continue working on my radio stations, transferring part of my record library to the playlist and setting up the equipment, waiting for FCC permits etc. (we need to keep all of this great artists and music on the air for future generations). You are absolutely right about Sammy, Judy Garland was something else too, I adore her, I don't actually know how many of her records I have between her early 78's, concerts and LP's.  I'll be looking forward to more of your great clips.

    Un abrazo,

    Armando

    varadero1839

    Hi Armando,
Just 2 days ago I received your kind remarks about this clip en Aleman! Today I looked for it and I was beginning to think I was hallucinating! The comment disappeared from my e-mail! Anyway, came here and after refreshing the posts, it popped up again! You sent this to me 2 years ago! Wassup with YT? Sometimes they delete, then later resend messages; so odd. Anyway, I've got other stuff to write to you, but just wanted to let you know that I "re-found" this msg!
    Un fuerte abrazo,
    John

    Wonderful.

    varadero1839

Thanks TruthSerum101! I'm sorry I neglected to mention the wonderful "Sugar Ray Robinson," who is seen toward the end helping Sammy to appear more authentic as a pugilist. Wish I'd met him, but did meet Edna Mae, his wife. She was a beauty, very funny and charming!
