Davies, Ray - A Long Way From Home Lyrics
You've come a long way
From the runny-nosed and scruffy kid I knew
You had such good ways
I can remember the little things
That always made you smile
Now you think you're wiser because you're older
And you think that money buys everything
And you think you need no one to guide you
But you're still a long way from home
Yes, you're still a long way from home
You've come a long way
You're self-assured and dressed in
Funny clothes but you don't know me
With your car and your handmade overcoats
But your wealth will never make you stronger
'Cause you're still a long way from home
Yes, you're still a long way from home
Yes, you are a long way from home

Davies, Ray A Long Way From Home Comments
This is about Dave. So was Dandy.
How much I like Ray's songs - and how much I would have liked him or better them (The Kinks) to deliver a serious show in those years. I saw tham a couple of times in the seventies on festivals and Ray was always drunk and they did not play one of those emotional songs. It was all about Banana Boat Song and Demon Alcohol (sic!!). What a shame. And, imagine, a brass group accompanying..... So I am glad now to understand that with age he grew more adult. Such a great song writer, surely one of the geratest ever....
Still, those stumbling drink shows were a lot of fun! Like soccer hooliganism.

My 21 year old daughter is delighted to be able to see Ray for the first time in a decade this fall in St Paul.
I think its very sweet that Ray wrote this song about Dave. I adore this man! Just got my ticket to see him on the fall tour.
Who is the female singing with Ray? Any connection or just a back up singer?
