David Usher - St. Lawrence River Lyrics

Smells on the air
See there it's crushing the final impression
The stains on the paper
Where words fell like water
Unearth all the changes that never did matter
I think it's beginning to freeze here

Caught in the rage and the fire of things
All the brightness that burns me
I'm fumbling through like a child in the dark
When the nakedness comes
I am shocked by the colour the glorious weight of your skin
Comes alive
And I never thought we'd make it back so soon
Might be nice
But I knew you'd be your own destroyer
Comes a time
And I always thought I'd make it up to you

Here please forgive me
Could we escape all the bitterness piled upon bitterness
Held in the face of the things that I don't understand
Intellectualize over and over
This helplessness suits us
Funny how quiet has slipped to our corners
Worn all our edges away
You are watching breathing and baiting
Wanting and warming and cautiously waiting
For some simple signal to creep cross your conscience
Uncover redemption and oh did I mention
I carried you down to the St. Lawrence River
The banks running dirty the water's beginning to freeze here
Solid by morning
And I'll freeze here
Winter by morning

Comes a lie
And I never thought you'd get me back so soon
Might be nice
But it's only if my own destroyer
Comes alive
And I always knew I'd make it up to you

I saw on your face such a curious grin
As I let go your hand
I was desperate to hold you again
But you're sinking so deep in the water
Outsmarted myself and so easily gave up what I wanted
Solid by morning
What I wanted
Winter by morning

Comes alive
And I never thought you'd make it up so soon
Night be nice
But I always knew you're my destroyer
Comes a time
And I always thought I'd make it up to you

Solid by morning
And I'll freeze here
Winter by morning

David Usher St. Lawrence River Comments
  1. K.... D....

Back in the 90’s my lil sis was telling me about this song she loved, “Usher and Page song” she told me. I was like, “Wow! Jimmy Page is recording again”. So I went out and bought her David Usher’s Little Songs CD, although I couldn’t find the track with the Zeppelin legend, for her 15th birthday. She thanked me but said I could keep the CD. Oops! A rare good mistake I made in my life. Don’t have the CD anymore but still have all 10 tracks scattered throughout my playlists. This song was always my fav, and “Forestfire”

  4. T.... K....

Lived 25 years on the US side, across from Prescott & Brockville. Few people outside of it know about this wonderful river and region. The magic goes all the way down to Labrador and the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

  10. L.... H....

Stumbled about this artist recently and wondered why I never heard of this guy before. Very talented musician and lyricist.

    L.... H....

AtariXcore moist is nothing like bush though....

    L.... H....

That's because he is actually talented and music today is about image over actual musical talent and ability. Mainstream music is a plague and it over shadows actual musician that have talent. He was in the band Moist but I don't really like him in that this shows far more talent and expression.

    L.... H....

@AtariXcore He's not American hes was born in Oxford, England and now a Canadian citizen and artist. There are tons of Canadian artists who are overshadowed by mainstream garbage.

    L.... H....

@Bryan M I like Davids solo work far more and it displays his musical ability at his full potential. You're right though they are nothing like Bush cause as an alt/rock band Bush sounded way better but Davids solo stuff sounds better than Bush.

    L.... H....

@Wesley Thibodeau "Disco Days" checked it out and absolutely hated it and it doesn't even touch this song in the areas of expression, lyrically, vocally or in an instrumental sense. Moist was an anchor for him sure he made money but not the kind of money other bands of that were making. I think that it did very little for his career and is probably the main reason people don't know about him, or his solo music or even who he is on an international scale. Moist was also overshadowed by bands with way more talent in their genre of music.

  11. R.... M....

I feel like this song should be the Canadian National Anthem
