Since this SEJ has performed this with Mary J Blige and he has admitted that his voice has got deeper over the years (partly due to the drugs he took in the 70s) so if the signer/composer of the track was willing to sing it with a female when he has had to lower the key to siut his voice that makes your comment look a bit silly.
