David Lee Roth - That's Life Lyrics

That's life (that's life)
That's what all the people say
You're riding high on Monday
Shot down in May
But-a, I ain't never gonna change my tune
When I'm back on top in the month of June

I said, that's life (that's life)
Ain't as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin' on a dream
But-a, I don't never let it get me down
'cause that big ol' world keeps spinnin' 'round.

Been a puppet, pirate, a poet, a pauper, a pawn and a king
Been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time that I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life (that's life)
And I can't deny it
Many times I thought of quitting, babe
But my heart wouldn't buy it
If I didn't think it was worth one try
I'd jump right on a big bird and I'd fly

Been a puppet, poet, pirate, pauper, now I'm a king
Been up, down, I know one thing
Each time that I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life (that's life)
And I can't deny it
Many times I thought of quitting, babe
But my heart wouldn't buy it
If I didn't think it was worth one try
I'd just roll myself up in a big ball and fly

    That's life, that's life
That's what all the people say.
    You're riding high on Monday,
    Shot down in May.
But I, I ain't never gonna change my tune
When I'm back on top in the month of June.

    I said, that's life. That's life
Ain't as funny as it may seem,
    Some people get their kicks
    Stompin' on a dream.
But I, I don't never let it get me down
'Cause that big ol' world keeps spinnin' 'round.

Been a puppet, pirate, a poet, a pauper, a pawn and a king.
Been up and down and over and out and I know one thing:
Each time that I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race.

    That's life, that's life
    And I can't deny it,
Many times I thought of quitting, babe,
But my heart wouldn't buy it.
If I didn't think it was worth one try
I'd jump right on a big bucket and fly.

Been a puppet, poet, pirate, pauper; now I'm a king.
Been up, down, I know one thing:
Each time that I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race.

    That's life, that's life
    And I can't deny it,
Many times I thought of quitting, babe,
But my heart wouldn't buy it.
If I didn't think it was worth one try
I'd just roll myself up in a big ball and fly.

  38. the nitro man

the only jazz i like is David Lee Roth

  39. Elizabeth Wiley

My son Dean sent me a link to this song for my Birthday wish..............I think this is my favorite Dave picture.............except for the ancient one I took on the porch of the house on Maiden Lane where Van Halen used to practice. The black leather jacket. This song reminds me of the old days when Linda and Dave, and the kids and I used to sit around doing our homework with his dog farting and laughing while he made up lyrics, or sang old songs ........OLD songs in all the different voices.

  49. DAVE SHRED MONSTER

This is the one on this album I loved the least. It reminded me too much of the sell out stuff he did before this. It's nice to listen to in 2018.

  50. Mike Dial

That's what I love about Dave: he can rock hard, but he respects the greats from the past: Frank Sinatra, Mills Brothers, Louis Prima, etc.

  51. Sky 4

this song is todays praise to Jesus ! This is exactly what our Big loving beautiful brother Jesus wants to hear in our hearts.💝 send a humorous heart up to Jesus not all broken hearts..Don't make his only job description healing and filling...

"Dave" is cool. He's a good friend. Knocked this one out of the park. Lololol like you know him. "Leave Dave alone right now!!

David Lee Roth is a fine douche in an alright band.

    Chris Adams

    Hey, I know Dave too.I
Always a Heineken or 10 waiting for you! But don't ask for a hit on his joint
Lol on! "" LEAVE DAVE ALONE RIGHT NOW""...
Or just lace his 16th joint of the day with lithium and watch him smile again,...But, don't wear dented deoderant or perfume or bring any GOD DAMNED BROWN Fucking M&Ms into this joint or we gonna have to start all over!!!!!!!
HEY? ISN'T THAT THE DAUMER TRIPLES IN HIS ROOM¿?

  54. cb2k761

Sinatras version is untouchable but this DLR cover is cool.

  61. Lisa H.

    Pretty awesome cover!

  62. PC No

Sort of a "me too" remake, but not bad. I'd never heard him do this until now, but it always seemed like the kind of song he'd like.

  63. sunlitweb

It takes a lot of juice to sing this song right.

  64. Michael Daniel

Kinda always thought David Lee Roth was somewhat overlooked in his ability to sing different styles of songs, he had a great voice

    Chris Hanson

    still doing it sensabl

    Elizabeth Zago Spanjer

    I think he still HAVE.

  65. Dom Jervis

IMHO, Mr. Roth's BEST song that I've ever heard, even better than "Just a Gigolo."  My congrats and thanks to him for a GREAT job!

    John Walls

    Dom Jervis Sinatra was jealous!

I wish Dave could have done this on the #Sinatra100

    McGannahan Skyjellyfetti

I sure wish Frank and Dave did a duet of this song...

  67. Billy Williams
