This song was actually called "Cotton's Theme" when it was created in the early 70's, and in fact was credited as such on "The Young and the Restless" theme song. In 1976, ABC Sports did a montage for then-global sensation Nadia Comăneci from Romania, the gymnast who set a lot of records at the time. After Flip Wilson did a retrospective hour about Nadia, with this song playing throughout, the name was changed from it's original ("Cotton's Them") to Nadia's Theme, re-released, and because the 8th top selling song of the year.

I honestly thought the singing career started AFTER Knight Rider, not before it!

I like the instrumental version of Nadia's Theme much better and the fact the title was inspired by Nadia Comaneci kicking gymnastics butt and putting on a masters clinic when she scored seven perfect 10s at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.

Trust me...Nadia's Theme NEVER did have words to it. This song was created to honor a magnificent gymnast from Romania. The young and the restless stole this song, and created the words aimed at the soap opera. And as far as David Hasselhoff singing it, and supposedly "great" voice???? Well we all know what became of music career lmao!!!!! Please do your research people before commenting on something you really have no knowledge of!!!

+AC_Orestes And also Melodie, I'm not trying to be rude either- but in addition to AC_Orestes reply, Y&R didn't steal the song either- it was rearranged in 1973 by the composer before the Soap aired just for them, and also Y&R didn't just up and create the lyrics that Hoff is singing either. The lyrics were written at the same time as the original instrumental piece and were released on the same album for the film "Bless the Beasts and the Children" with the title "Lost" (with the vocals performed by Renee Armand) whereas the instrumental piece was titled "Cotton's Dream". Actually I have a lot more to say about Melodie's post, so I will write another post as well. :)

The song was not written for gymnast Nadia Comaneci! It wasn't even named "Nadia's theme" originally- it's true original name was "Cotton's Dream" and was written for the 1971 film "Bless the Beasts and the Children", a film about a group of misfit teens and their efforts to save a herd of bison from slaughter. Then in 1973, Perry Botkin, Jr rearranged the instrumental version of this piece (yes- there was a version of the same instrumental with lyrics on the album for the film titled "Lost" instead of "Cotton's Dream")for the Soap Opera "The Young and the Restless", which is still used as the shows theme 40+ years later! Nadia Comaneci didn't even perform her routine to the song. She performed to "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" and "Jump in the Line." It was only renamed "Nadia's theme" because ABC's Wide World of Sports used the song for a montage of Comaneci's floor exercise that aired on their show. It was renamed "Nadia's theme" because after the montage was shown on the Wide World of Sports- everyone fell in love with the music and called in inquiring about it, so it was re-released using the name "Nadia's theme" and spent 16 weeks on the top 40 charts, peaking at #8.
Anyway, do your investigating before making statements like you did. The Young and the Restless DID NOT create the words - they were written for the same movie as the instrumental. It was NOT written for Nadia- and was actually used by Y&R before Nadia- And a version was re-arranged just for Y&R by the original artist that wrote the piece!
