David Essex - Stardust Lyrics
Ah look what they've done to da rock'n'roll clown
Ah rock'n'roll clown look he's down on the ground
Well he used to high fly, but he crashed out the sky
In a stardust fling hey rock 'n roll king is down
Come on stand in line just one at a time t' see me
See my painted-on grin, as I stand up to sing
In a stardust fling, hey rock'n'roll king is down
But he's the leader of the band
Yes a lonely man
Doncha you wanna take his hand
Yes you know you can..an, owwww
Well I used to high fly, but I crashed out the sky
In a stardust fling hey rock'n'roll king is down
In a stardust fling hey rock'n'roll king is, down
In a stardust fling hey rock'n'roll king is, down
In a stardust fling hey rock'n'roll king is da down
In a stardust fling hey rock'n'roll king is, down
In a stardust fling hey rock'n'roll king is, down
In a stardust fling hey

Great song great man David Essex is a wonderful singer and wonderful songwriter
Powerful stuff
Original essential one of a kind
Martin Gore's cover is better, with all the respect to Jeff Wayne
Yeeesss
AWESOME ESSEX BOY
Great Song ,Great Movie, Essex was Brilliant , long live the 70s and 80s
Such a great song & movie, ain’t seen the movie in years & I doubt I ever see it again as I ain’t got it on dvd or video, the first movie ‘that’ll be the day’ was great too, my brother had both movies on video, not sure if he’s still got them though
Just bought both films DVD via Amazon. amazing.
Why is the movie so hard to find ? It's good. Music Copyright issues? Lost prints ? Lost film.
Amazon has That'll be the day/Stardust DVD bargain price.
From the book by Ray Connolley
A classic from the great David Essex.
This and Imperial Wizard - his best tracks
Brilliant radio4 adaption the other month.
Immense. Intense.
I remember seeing the film to this +the other: That will be the day with stars such as Ringo * as a kid.
I used to high fly. Now my grin is painted on. God knows where the band went...
I have the original LP with this on it, last track on side 2. it has a extra instrumental track after the fading of this, no idea what it is and no title on the cover, just a tune with (lalalala la la la lala laa), if anyone knows what i mean
Hobby birchy , yes, isn't that just an instrumental variation of 'Gonna make you a star' ?
ahh ,yes you are right it is, strange for it not to be listed on the cover album & label
that l be the day n stardust changed me forever, never ever forgave adam for the dog & acid :D
mcfcguvnors you know what, that scene sickened me too. Jim McClaine got his just desserts
Anyone want to buy some clothes pegs.Hoho.
Oh teenage years! Sneaking into see this film underage....
Hilltop Hoods anyone?
Jim Maclain Played by David Essex is Loosely Based on John Lennon, and Porter Lee Austin the "Stray Cats" Manager Played by Pre Dallas Larry Hagman is Based on Colonel Tom Parker Elvis's Manager.
to camdentownjohn:not actually in the film
+sharman495 IT PLAYS OVER THE END CREDITS!!! The credits are part of the film - thus, it is in the film!
Great orchestration during the fadeout.
Nice atmospheric number, just needed another verse!
Was this actually in the film?
+SilverWolfMoon Correct
+SilverWolfMoon Affirm

One day Marc Bolan and Steve Harley had a baby, and they called him David.

Wow rare indeed. Love this
Strange that I don't recognize this one. Perhaps didn't get much airtime here in Australia? It was big hit in UK I know.

OMG HE WAS LOVELY EVEN IN EASTENDERS HE LOOKED LOVELY I KNEW IT WAS HIM BY THEM LOVELY EYES
Great playout song from Stardust sequel to "that'll be the day" 2 of the best films of the early 70's.
clivestanley66 I saw both of those films. I had an LP with the songs on it. The films seem to have disappeared. I’ve tried finding them on the Internet but can’t.
its highly coincidental that I stumbled across this without know it was David Essex after hearing Hilltop Hoods sing a version of it.
we hit the freeway and ROLL
This Stardust is better than new Stardust
GREAT MOVIE
Like the guitar solo
rileypupboo I agree, simple but great. Chris Speeding, I believe.
fantastic wish they would show the film on television
