David Byrne - America Is Waiting Lyrics
America is waiting for a message of some sort or another.
Takin' it again. Again! Again! Takin' it again.
Well now... no, no... now, we ought to be mad at the government not mad at the people.
Takin' it again. Again! Again! Takin' it again.
America is waiting for a message of some sort or another.
No will whatsoever. No will whatsoever! Absolutely no honor.
No will whatsoever. No will whatsoever! Absolutely no integrity.
No will whatsoever. No will whatsoever!
I haven't seen any any any citizen over there stand up and say "hey, just a second."
No will whatsoever. No will whatsoever! I mean, yeah, so... wha... what're you gonna do?
America is waiting for a message of some sort or another.

David Byrne America Is Waiting Comments
Brilliant 😎
Was fascinated in 1981 and am still in 2019. Unequaled impossible to classify, yet wonderful.
To dance is a liberation of itself.
When will the people stop being slaves
Amazing that all the samples were played in on tape loops
30 years ago and on the cutting edge
I play this song when i watch stock market do the opposite what i want it to do
this is amazing with this video on the background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_9zXgkDOdw&t=36s
An aircheck of Ray Taliaferro, from KGO RADIO, was sampled by Brian Eno and David Byrne and used on "America Is Waiting", the first track on My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. The album was recorded at Wally Heider Studios, around the corner from the KGO radio studios, then at 277 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco.
The bigger you are the harder you fall
That's a pretty loser mind..
You,my friend,have some issues.
Great song to watch a stock market go bearish
The voice is of Ray Taliafero, a San Francisco broadcasting legend, who was sadly found dead today.
Yes, the vocal samples are indeed Ray Taliafero. I was born and raised in the SF Bay Area, listened to Ray all the time growing up.
Holger Czukay's meisterwerk 'Movies' pre dates it by a couple of years and was an important influence on this album.
Holger Czukay was pure genius
*TAKE IT IN AGAIN! AGAIN? AGAIN!?! TAKE IT IN AGAIN! WELL NOW NO NO NOW WE AUGHTA BE MAD AT THE GOVERNMENT NOT MAD AT THE PEOPLE! TAKE IT IN AGAIN! AGAIN!? TAKE IT AGAIN? I MEAN, YEAH, BUT WHAT YA GONNA DO?*

Welcome to the very edge of music.
it's nice here
It is much farther than that.
Still waiting.We're still waiting...
I'm just Japanese but I 'm wonderting what Amereca is waiting at that time and now. This song is really considerring this situation.
What makes a great trilogy is this, Remain in Light and Byrne's Catherine Wheel.
Well this one is prescient isn't it? Only we DO blame the people this time, not the government.
My Life In a Bush Of Ghosts, unavoidable experience, one of the more original album i heard.
Over 300 million americans with anxiety and depression waiting for next tuesday.
Not anymore...MAGA!

America is waiting for a message

Takin' it again, again, again, takin' it again

America is waiting for a message

I had a very long bus ride today, like 8 hours, and I cannot remember how many times I played this song through my headphones. The song is pure genius in both music and lyrics.
Thank you for the lyrics!!!!! :)
I've always heard it as "taken in again, again", not "takin' it again". "Taken in" seems much more appropriate for the rest of the tone of the lyric...
Not full song.
I had this album since it came out and listened to it for a long time .I always thought it was new ,refreshing and always thought I was the only one who listened to it.Now I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!
original
I vividly remember watching Oliver Stone's Wall Street and hearing this music and thinking, Hello, what's all this then? I wasn't sure if I loved it or hated. Turns out it was genius and I would love it.
Joseph Charles I picture you in Bobby helmet and boots shouting "What's all this then"
Is that sample from a sci-fi movie?
Talkback radio samples
@dmitri616 Correct, one of the samples is of the radio talk show host Ray Taliaferro of San Francisco, who is in his 70's and still on the air.
Makes Pop Music Sick
Perfectly summed up. I was so let down at Eno's last drop though @Peter Wesley Bastone Maybe I need to give it time. MLITBOG was way too much for people at the time. I always thought it was a a little to cluttered but eventually I was like "Ohhhhh, Ok, there you are" ....
@Bill Davis I played Jezebell Spirit in the nightclubs when I Dj'd. Scared the Latinos lol
Haha, Oh holy shit @Peter Wesley Bastone! The spirits in the music!!!
I have this album. It's quite good. l'll reshare this.
blue horseshoe loves Anacott Steel.
Celtic Central blue horseshoe loves blue star airlines
I described it with a filological neutral approach, but I agree wholeheartedly.
From what many think of as the best album recorded in the 80s.
Stellar then and now.
