David Bowie - In The Heat Of The Morning Lyrics

The blazing sunset in your eyes will tantalize
Every man who looks your way
I'll watch them sink before your gaze
Señorita sway
Dance with me before their frozen eyes
I'm so much in love like a ragged soldier
Catching butterflies

No man loved like I love you
Wouldn't you like to love me too?

In the heat of the morning
In the shadows I'll clip your wings
And I'll tell you I love you
In the heat of the morning

I'll tie a knot in rainbow's end, organise the breeze
Light my candle from the sun
I'll give you daylight for a friend, I'll do all of these
I'll prove that it can be done
Oh I'm so much in love like the little boy
Who races with the wind

No man loved like I love you
Wouldn't you like to love me too?

In the heat of the morning
In the shadows I'll clip your wings
And I'll tell you I love you
In the heat of the morning

Does anyone else hear a bit of Ziggy Stardust and a lot of Lady Grinning Soul in the chord changes?

    O.... ....

without doubt, I remember bowie saying that "wild eyed boy from freecloud" was his most fully formed song, but I love his early stuff, when I live my dream, London boys, karma man, overlooked but wonderful, I knew coming to decca era bowie i'd find real fans, love all

    @Jason Sparks
I'm convinced that the ridiculous snobbery towards his pre-1969 work is part of a rock media conspiracy!! Haha. But actually, that's not too far off the mark. When the 'serious' rock press began (circa '67 / Rolling Stone magazine etc), a new set of RULES *did* come into play. A new critical 'standard' where any new music which didn't conform in part to 'rock's ingredients - blues, country, folk, r&b - would be automatically dismissed. Being a huge Bowie fan as a kid throughout the 70s, I remember reading so much critical hatred and bile thrown at his first 1967 album that I didn't even check it out until about 1980. I was so shocked to discover that it was every bit the masterpiece that all his albums from Space Oddity to Scary Monsters were.

  29. S.... w....

Wonderful record, one of Bowie's lesser known masterpieces. A great song with a great performance by Hammond organ legend Alan Hawkshaw. The organ riff and solo are awesome.
    Rest in peace, Mr Bowie.

I love Bowie, have done since I was a child. The lyrics here are masterful and raw, almost childlike in their simplicity but so moving. Amazing early track from the Master.
