David Bowie - I Pray, Olé Lyrics

Let's say goodbye till tomorrow
With a word sincere
How do you make it through the night?
I hope to God you're still here, I pray Olé

Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?

Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make it through?

Can you make, can you make it through?
I pray Olé

It's a God eat God world, it's a dog's tomorrow
And the song and the wind
Brings nothing but sorrow
I pray Olé, I pray Olé, I pray Olé

Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?

Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make it?
Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?

Can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make, can you make it through?
Can you make it?

David Bowie I Pray, Olé Comments

Love this song. Lodger has some of his most intellectual music and has always been one of my mosted loved. This song, if it were added, would of propelled Lodger to heights that the album deserved. There are 4 or 5 brilliant songs on Lodger that still stand tall now. If only this was included. Imagine that!

    Happy 40th to this album...

  3. .... ....

Ok song but it doesn't fit in Lodger. More likely from the Tin Machine era.

  4. S.... A....

should have made it to the album instead of African night flight. Its sound foreshadows Scary monsters and it sounds like it.

    S.... A....

African Night Flight is a bop tho

  5. J.... ....

The beginning is ‘White Room’ by Cream. Exactly.

  6. I.... ....

The 'can you make it through' part sounds sort of like the next day

  7. T.... T....

Am I that high or is this the same melody as in get lucky by daft punk?

    T.... T....

    You're high. I can't see the connection.

  8. C.... ....

Wow, what a treat this is. Absolutely Love it!

The music did NOT finish my friends!!! There were more several last seconds left to go before the music faded out completely and then ended. Great rare music by Bowie. But it is is very much needed to have this song "complete" in time length from beginning to end. It is so disappointing for it to stop so abruptly as we fly so high in it's fading etheric sound, and then stop and drop at once to fall so hard, instantly without warning. Did not want to complain nor criticize. But I feel it so very important for us all to have all his "treasures" in all it's completeness and glory. But I thank you still for sharing this beautiful gem from our dearly departed David!! It is such a gift and an honor to have any of his works out there for us to hear. And I am grateful. Many Blessings , for you, for dear David, and for us all. ...May the music live on forever!! Cheers!!

You can find it as a B-side in the new 40th síngle anniversary of Boys Keep Swinging

This song is brilliant. I can't understand why it was buried until 1991, and has been reburied ever since.

Ray Garcia , Ian Anderson on sleeve notes to a Jethro Tull album once said that often certain songs don't make a final album as they are either too similar, to ones already chosen or just too different. Could it be, I wonder, the case here. The music is a bit similar at the end to the last part of Red Sails perhaps? Not that I think that's a problem in any way, it just might have influenced the choice of material for Lodger?.
Anyway, I Pray Ole is a terrific song!

Its status as a Lodger outtake is apparently disputed (Tony Visconti reportedly has no recollection of it). Maybe it'll turn up on Re:call 5.

Whatever its origin, it's a brilliant track.

  16. H.... S....

    Sounds very Lodger!
