David Bowie - Dead Against It Lyrics
And when she drowns
Within and in the fizzy gin, begins to sigh
"Good god" or "My" I cry and die and lie beside
She is the apple in my eye
I couldn't cope
Or'd hope eloped
A dope, she roped
This salty lie
And when she's dreaming, I believe
And when she's reading, I retreat
Can't believe her
Telling me she's dead again
Telling me she's dead against it
And deep my wound
Within for every second chance it was
thy-tore
From deep within, despite the rain, my words are worn
She loves to talk into the phone
No matter who
No matter when
No matter where
And when she's dreaming, I believe
And when she's reading, I retreat
Can't believe her
Telling me she's dead again
Telling me she's dead against it

David Bowie Dead Against It Comments
There was talk of rerecording this track on Outside or Earthling - imagine how great that would've been
@Picnicl you're right; both albums I suppose had a very industrial flavour on them, which would've suited this song so well. On Outside it would've been much darker compared to Earthling- perhaps more of an angry context? I believe it would've worked well either way. With the Bowie estate currently releasing new performances of "older" songs, I am forever in hope that we will hear a newer cut of this track
Have a look at my channel for a reimagined Outside album, David. I changed my mind - it's perfect for 1. Outside. It's too delicately romantically subtle for Earthling.
What a beautiful tease it plays making us wonder and wait for the electric piano harpsichord type riff.
It's musical soundplay reminds me of 'What in the world'.
Love this track!! One of the best of this underrated album. It makes me change my mood absolutely!!
Absolutely brilliant. Most of the stuff he did from ‘87-‘94 is criminally underrated.
Great track from a totally underrated album, Bowie experimenting mostly alone
I forget. Who rates albums, again?
I musta missed that one.
