David Bowie - Always Crashing In The Same Car Lyrics

Every chance,
every chance that I take
I take it on the road
Those kilometres and the red lights
I was always looking left and right
Oh, but I'm always crashing
in the same car

Jasmine, I saw you peeping
As I pushed my foot down to the floor
I was going round and round the hotel garage
Must have been touching close to 94
Oh, but I'm always crashing
in the same car

This album calls for an indulgent listening at first and then he lends his beauty and sensibility, until one is caught ineluctably in his universe. Each listening unveils a little more of its mystery and its magic ..... :)

  20. S.... ....

Apparently, there was a verse cut from this song in which Bowie did his best Bob Dylan impression. I believe it was cut due to it being seen as distasteful with 1977 being the 10th year anniversary of Dylan's extreme motorcycle accident. Idk about the rest of you, but I really want to hear Bowie's Dylan impression

  21. K.... M....

Bowie knew how to blow our stoned little minds very well ;)

    Bogowie
Dla ptaków, traw, kamieni, my ludzie, jesteśmy jak bogowie,
Ogromni, wspaniali, radośni. Niepojęte są im
Nasza mowa i czyny. Niewymownie piękni,
O twarzach, ciałach i ruchach płynnych,
    Skórze porcelanowej, w jasności,
    Aksamitny dotyk władzę ożywiania ma,
    Powłóczyste szaty noszący lub nadzy.
W perły oraz drogie klejnoty zdobni,
    Wyrysowane księżycowe znaki i symbole,
W misternie uplecionych włosach złoto lśni.
Co robią bogowie? W wielkim ogrodzie,
Który jest ich krwi i ciału pokrewny,
    W promieniach żywych innego Słońca,
    Zawsze młodzi i żądzy nieznający,
    Byty, formy i twory abstrakcyjne,
W wielokątach i kryształach zamknięte światło.
A ich wejrzenia, które są jak błyskawica,
    Jak lunety niedoścignione, widzą głęboko,
    W czas, przestrzeń i serca drugich;
    Uchylając rewers migotliwej partytury
    Świata, pieczęcie i zasłony.
I patrzą na dno gwiazdy, ziarna,
    Ulotne adorując tajemnice, w ekstazie.
Spojrzenia, ręce i usta bogów łączą się,
    Posłuszne niewstrzymanej potędze erosa,
Jak zaślubiny wody, powietrza i ognia,
    W tańcu.
A pod podeszwami ich pajęczych stóp
    Galaktyki mchów, porostów, rododendronów,
    Konstelacje splątanych korzeni i minerałów,
    Mikroelementy, ciemna materia.
Tunele podziemne, którymi biegną płynne metale,
    Ku magnetytowemu jądru ziemi.
W ogrodzie, którego skarby nieprzebrane są,
    Świętują wzniosły dar istnienia,
    Chociaż śmiertelni.

    Bogowie, nie zapominajcie kim jesteście.

It's crazy that I have to go back to the 60s-70s to find what I like. Music nowadays is so bad :(

  30. C.... L....

Genius. Been loving this song since it came out. The sweetness of his talking voice can be heard in this.

  31. C.... T....

I like so much, how this song peaks from the first second, without any prelude.
Indeed, one of his best songs.

Always crushing on the same album...

  42. K.... B....

I was just in a car wreck and I will definitely not be crashing in the same car because it's completely totalled... but I get to listen to some Bowie while in bed off work so there is one benefit.

  43. M.... ....

    This guy is a genius

  44. j.... n....

He wrote so many different styles of songs. The one constant in them all was his voice. So Pure I connected with him in so many ways.

  51. E.... G....

A beautiful, yet scary (and somehow erotic) song. It seems to provide the plot for "Crash," a mid-1990's movie starring Holly Hunter & James Spader. It's basically about several friends who share a bizarre "car crash + sex in the wreckage" fetish (!). Full of violent, bloody sex combined with severe injuries. One of the most psychotic films (and songs) ever made.

    E.... G....

Crash was a J.G. Ballard story originally. I don't know if this song and the story are connected intentionally but it could be seen that way.

    E.... G....

Nice post. Didn't know that. Still, it's impossible for me not to connect the two. At the very least, I would imagine that Mr. Ballard heard this song before he wrote the story. The similarities are undeniable.

  52. C.... H....

one of the best songs ever composed

The best ..... not one of.....enjoy

  57. M.... ....

This is a road movie not a song- a ring road lit by the flickering neon strips of regret.

  58. p.... ....

Lovely cover by Phillipe Jaroussky during the BBC PROMS tribute to Mr. Bowie.

    p.... ....

    Actually it was fucking dreadful

  59. S.... H....

Is this song about his drug abuse and depression?

    S.... H....

+Eric J no it's fucking not he actually sped around in a hotel parking garage trying to deal with woman problems he was having (her name actually was Jasmine!!) refer to lyrics. I'm sure with bowie there are several personal metaphors & other reference's add just for fun as well. don't assume the position of professor when your actually a strait "f" student there asswipe

    S.... H....

That's it .....Berlin was all about him getting away from him he lifestyle of LA which got him messed up... Him and Iggyshared a place and went clean writing new materials......

    S.... H....

I think this song is about Always Crashing in the Same Car

I've always been a passion for David Bowie. Music, style etc. Is was a master of all kinds of Arts. And truly one of a kind in many ways. I don't feel that there would be anyone else who could work it the Bowie did. Period. He's legendary arts will always be loved around the world. Thankyou to my good friends Kevin & Elaine B. For sending me alot of he's music over. As i once had a. big collection of Bowiea albums which i lost sadly. Thanks Kev Bee. 😊👌✌.x Debbie lee H

  62. F.... ....

Amazing song. I know that he's referring to his personal experiences at the time, but whenever I hear it I always think of the scene in Radio On where the main character drives out of late 70s London via Westway. That and J.G. Ballard's "Crash" whose protagonist is always crashing in the same car, literally...

    F.... ....

At first I thought this song was somehow a tribute to Crash! Then I paid a visit to Wikipedia haha

    F.... ....

    Grand duke henri of luxembourg

  63. P.... C....

Yes, he was 'lookin left and right' and saw his crash coming. Hope his soul is 'goin round and round' some dark hotel garage. And that his foot is down to the floor, touching close to '94, kilometers I would think. I'm gonna miss you space-cadet man, hope you're enjoying time back on Mars.

  64. D.... M....

    I love this song

  65. J.... W....

Genious , different persons just in one, only a genious could pull that off without going mad.

  66. C.... ....

What a beauty, this song. What a beauty, David's mind. What a loss. What an unforgettable inestimable work of art he left us with his entire opus. There's a sad smile in my face when writing this. See you, David.

  67. A.... o....

surely God could have looked the other way ( Space oddity , God know Im good ) David , showing mere mortals how .

  78. K.... Z....

Bowie takes you on a real trip and you never know what's around the corner, very unpredictable musical moves both in rhythm and sound selection

    K.... Z....

Like a box of chocolates but with the coffee and orange creme replaced by something exotic and amazing that you have never tasted before.

  79. m.... ....

This Album and this particular song mean so much to me.It got me through some pretty tough times.Thank you for posting

    m.... ....

Hey! I just thought doing a short project inspired from your comment. Having gone through a pretty bad patch a couple of years ago, of which there are still repercussions, I can feel how music can become a force of short escape and help you move on in tough times. I would so appreciate it if you would write to me describing what happened with you and what music you were listening to and films were you watching during that time. And if you listen or watch the same now, do get down again, or the music/films have a different effect on you now? Please send an email to me on [email protected] if you wished! I'd owe you one for sure. I hope you're better now! And this song totally rules btw.
    Cheers,
    Rohit.

    @Ekron Son Hate Bowie?
    Hate is a strong word.
    Something's not right there.

  82. N.... ....

I'm pretty sure it's an alternative version, maybe a demo, David bowie made a lot of these. It would be good to precise it.

    N.... ....

    It's the album version mate.

    N.... ....

    @Gary Montana
Actually I think you're right. On my favourite music streaming site this version is also the album version. But the version I saved in my playlist was probably an alternative version. So I listened an alternative version for like 2 years ^^ I think I prefer the version I listen though, it seems much better to me.

    N.... ....

It would be cool if one day the sessions to this album are released. I'm sure there is some neat stuff there.

  89. r.... ....

this album broke new ground when it came out, but then much of Bowie's new material caught others of the period flat footed.  Thanks for putting this up.
