David Allan Coe - Mary Magdeline Lyrics

Shes a lady of the night

Some say that her profession
Is a low down dirty shame
And some folks say shes just some hippie chick
Thats half insane

She talked to me about someone she called The Son of Man
She told me things I wasn't quite prepared to understand
Perhaps she was a vision of delirium I seen
This prostitute I meet last night named Mary Magdeline

Told a friend about
The strange experience I had
With Benzedrine indifference
He assured me I was mad

His dad had been a Preacher
Quoted scriptures from his head
Disbelief was on his face
Especially when I said

She talked to me about someone she called The Son of Man
She told me things I wasn't quite prepared to understand
Perhaps she was a vision of delirium I seen
This prostitute I meet last night named Mary Magdeline

With hepatitis eyelids
I went tripping down the street
The local Catholic mission
Offered rest for weary feet

The Priest heard my confession
While his breath smelled just like wine
He gave me the impression
I was waisting sacred time

He talked to me about someone he called The Son of Man
He told me things I wasn't quite prepared to understand
He talked to me of vision and things he'd seen in dreams
And he talked about a prostitute named Mary Magdeline

He talked to me about someone he called The Son of Man
He told me things I wasn't quite prepared to understand
Perhaps it was a vision of delirium I seen
That prostitute I meet last night called Mary Magdeline

David allan Coe is a great songwriter and Nashville never gave him the credit he deserves I'm met him twice once at my dad's truck stop in henryetta Oklahoma and he is a bad ass he gave me a tape just divorce I never seen it at a store for sale it was bad ass I was around 17 at the time I'm 56 now and still listening to his music

    J.... K....

I just recently sold of my entire LP Vinyl and Cassette library. Every Album released from 1969-1988. Anything released after 1988 wasn't worth spending money on.

  4. S.... G....

    Best song ever

  5. J.... S....

Why Coe is not ranked in the same league as Dylan or Cash is music's great injustice

    J.... S....

His 2 X-rated Albums pretty much did him in.

they obviously didnt give a rats ass about air play or album sales , when the cover was of them all mooning. that takes balls

  9. J.... W....

  10. B.... R....

probably my favorite Coe song. saw him several times in my life and actually sat and talked to him and his drummer at the time, Dusty somebody, at a place in Atlanta. His later songs are pure genius. You could only get these cds from his official site. These were produced. written and performed by Coe. By the way I'm a 64 year old Granny!

  11. J.... L....

reminds me of a John Denver

    J.... L....

Jesse Lowe SORRY TO HEAR THAT

    J.... L....

I hope you're kidding. The mediocre Denver isn't worthy to lick DAC's shoes.

great song writer. he never got the credit for his pure country talent as a song writer. they was to wraped up on his bad boy image. that is what i love about D.a.c.. he was a bad ass but could bring this certain type of pure emotion into your heart with his songs like this one. and then make you laugh your ass of at some of his exrated songs.

  18. L.... B....

country is the same, it fucking sucks now

  19. L.... N....

I found this song on a cassette tape entitled "Early Sessions". It had a lot of other really strange songs I haven't found anywhere else. Has anybody every heard of "Early Sessions" I can't find the cassette, and I didn't have the sense at the time to archive the songs onto a more permanent medium.

  20. e.... ....

I like the scratches, it just adds to the song.
