David Allan Coe - Daddy Was A God Fearin' Man Lyrics
[spoken]
Used to go with my grandpa up to the town square, set him down up there on a picnic bench and he used to play checkers with them other old men up there. they used to tell stories bout when they were kids. grandpa says he shot the chief of police when he was nine years old. n' i believe him, cause they tell me that hazard, kentucky's the baldest place in the world. why, they say they used to sit out there on there front porch, shoot then revenuers when they'd come down the hollow. said they was so young, took two o' them boys to hold the rifle and one to pull the trigger, hymn! well, grandpa , he'd lie a little bit, but i'll tell you, there's a lot of stories in harlan county.
Yea, folks in harlan county, lord, they knew that we were poor
They always called my daddy preacher dan
Never hear of poppa talk of nothing' but the land
And daddy was a god fearing' farmer yes he was
Could not read nor write, lord, he could barley spell his name
Daddy was a god fearing' farmer all his life
Someday when I'm grown ill be the same.
Well he always grew tobacco though he did not smoke himself
He had the best tobacco crop around
And he never touched a drop of liquor that I can recall
Yes sunday-go-to-meeting' called for more than he could stand
I guess he felt at home in his old clothes
But he never missed a sunday taking momma to the church
Maybe it was habit, lords, but heaven only knows
Yea, folks in harlan county, lord, they knew that we were poor
They always called my daddy preacher dan
But daddy weren't no preacher, least ways I don't recollect
Never hear of grandpa talk of nothing' but the land

Grandfather is Larry Meeks aka "Black Joe" from Kenvir, went to Evarts. He's in the sports hall of fame. Raised part time by Charles Hunter because walking was too far in winter and the dead of summer. Gotta love how those mountains radiates heat, even after sunset aroun 4pm
Theres no reverse cowgirl in Kentucky, you dont turn your back on family

If grandpa was alive right now ain’t no telling what he’d have to say
Someday when I'm grown I'll be insane
Just the artwork makes me high.......
From 🇦🇴 listening to this amazing music. Thank you for that feeling, I remember about my father and everything he says and teaches me.
Used to go with my grandpa up to the town square
Set him down up there on a picnic bench
And he used to play checkers with them other old menup there
They used to tell stories bout when they were kids
Grandpa says he shot the Chief of Police when he was nine years old
I believe it
Cause they tell me Harlan Knetucky was the baddest place in the world
Why they say they used to sit out there on their front porch
Shoot them revenuers when they'd come down the hollow
Said they was so young took two of them boys
To hold the rifle and one to pull the trigger
Well grandpa he'd lie a little bit
But I'll tell you there's a lot of stories in Harlan County
Yeah folks in Harlan County Lord they knew that we were poor
They always called my daddy Preacher Dan
But daddy weren't no preacher least ways I don't recallect
Never hear of papa talk of nothin' but the land
Daddy was a God fearin' farmer yes he was
Could not read nor write Lord he could barely sign his name
Daddy was a God fearin' farmer all his life someday when I'm grown I'll be the same
Well he always grew tobacco though he did not smoke himself
He had the best tobacco crop around
And he never touched a drop of liquor that I can recall
Papa made his livin' on the ground
Yes Sunday go to meetin' called for more than he could stand
I guess he felt at home in his old clothes
But he never missed a Sunday takin' mama to the church
Maybe it was habit Lord but heaven only knows
Daddy was a God fearin' farmer...

US Dist Court at exit 71 fbi Virginia
Need some bikers huh
This will be at my wedding 2020
Did he ever live in Harlan County?
LONG LIVE DAVID ALLEN COE, A TRUE AMERICAN ARTIST !!!! 🇺🇸
Last time I seen dac he smelled like he hadn't had a shower in 3 years nor brushed his hair nor changed clothes I sure hope that's not a normal thing for him we had backstage passes never used them couldnt handle the smell
After his Wife at the time finally left him, because she was tired of being DAC's Punching Bag. David just let himself go. And Disowned all his kids over time too.
Still great in 2019!
DAC has the best background singers. The ladies just make the cherry on top.

I'm from California and I'm not white. I love this song and David allan coe music. Music is universal. Dont have to be from a certain place to get it
Ain't heard from David Alan Coe since he got beat up in a casino by some security guards maybe he's alright
That man has won every fight he's ever fought ! I dont think you're thinking of the right country outlaw badass sir ! I think might have him mixed up with someone else my friend ...
@Nick Rodgers no I saw it he was in a casino & he'd won a jackpot on the slot machines & they were giving him shit about it so he walked away told them to keep their Damn money then as he was walking away they tackled him.you can look it up he took them to court about it messed him up to where he has to sit to perform.there's a whole story on it
@Nick Rodgers it's on YouTube I can't get the link to send but it's David Alan Coe outside of court house
He's coming to Flint mi next month he's fine as long as he don't drink the water when he gets here

Radio ain't ready!!!
never will be ready , thank GOD
too good for liberal radio.......
DAC is a legend.
Thats me in that picture
I'm a 38 yr old grandpa and that picture reminds me of me
tit, this is Texas!!! Fuck Johnny Rebel, he ain't from Harlan or Bexar county!!!
anyone who is a real DAC fan knows songs like this more than the X rated stuff. what really pisses me off they confuse him Johnny Rebel. never heard DAC ever say he ever met him, and the dont sound a bit alike
@Tyson Ecker nah people confuse him for Jonny Rebel a lot too
I love all of them xxx and all . I post them often
This is the real DAC
@matt w its his right.
Tyson Ecker In most cases, any song that is slightly “racist” is automatically believed to be by Johnny Rebel.
Am I the only one that thinks DAC should have been one of the Highwaymen? He fucking rips.
David, Willie, Waylon and Kris used to do parties outside Austin at Bull Creek Lodges, recording parties at Moonhill... that's where "outlaw country" started. The Highwaymen were more like a memorial to those days than something new.
hjshmuel
i dont think he applied :) he would mot join if asked.... he is dave coe....
No Coe on the radio? That's the damn problem
fuvl yeah
No shit
He's too hardcore for the radio!
Too hardcore for radio
It was DAC's X Rated Albums that kept him from the Radio. You can't be a Larry Flint or Al Goldstein and command respect as a Preacher. DAC even admitted back in the mid '80's that he screwed himself out of a lot of "Air Play".
im from and still live in bloody Harlan this song is one of the town's best
Pike county says hello
@James Stump one of pikes finest right here ,lol

girl seen him in concert, wonderful man love him
🖒😎🤘
What a woman👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Well this Manitoba man only wishes he could have seen Coe live, good day to you Florida girl
Seen him in WV many years back. Hell of a time!
One of my favorite songs
Listen to Shooter Jenning's song "Outlaw You' about how these new "outlaw" singers are all just repackaged by the "suits" and they walk the walk and been taught the talk but he tells how Waylon, Grand Ole Opry hated him and tried to keep him down and starve him out but then came the Outlaw record...it tells it all in the song, buy shooter, Jesse Colter's and Waylon's only son. Listen to it once....and that's all it'll take! Live Love from the great country of Texas!
I heard he chewed tabbaca from a mail pouch sack..
Liam Vickerman there wasn't much he would take from a stranger
Liam Vickerman had an old dog that was trained to attack..... sometimes
Liam VICKERMAN he’d get drunk and mean as a rattlesnake
Hazard Kentucky IS the baddest place in the world. It hasn't changed much since his grandpa lived there apparently.
ky all day...
