Dave Matthews Band - Spoon Lyrics
Spoon in spoon
Stirring my coffee
I thought of you
And turned to the gate
On my way came up with the answers
And the answers were gone
From hand to hand
Wrist to the elbow
Red blood sand
Could Dad be God
Crosses cross hung out like a wet rag
Forgive you why
You hung me out to dry
Maybe I'm crazy
But laughing out loud
And maybe you're a little crazy
But laughing out loud makes it all subside
Holding I'm holding
I'm still falling
Spoon in spoon
Stirring my coffee
I thought of this
And turned to the gate
But on my way
Crack
Lightning and thunder
I hid my head
And the storm slipped away
Well maybe I'm crazy
And laughing out loud
Makes it all pass by
And maybe you're a little crazy
And laughing out loud
Makes it all alright
Laughing out loud
From time to time
Minutes and hours
Some move ahead while
Some lag behind
It's like the balloon that
Rise and then vanish
This drop of hope
That falls from his eyes
Spoon in spoon
Stirring my coffee
I think of this
And turn to go away
But as I walk
There're voices behind me saying
Sinners sin
Come now and play

2019. Y hay que volver unos años atrás para escuchar una obra maestra como esta....un sueño
Still to this day, can't believe Alanis came on board for this track. God she's heavenly.
Metoo??
Can you do a duet with Billie eilish
This song would be fantastic, then put Alanis in the mix and its just epic. I often wonder if its my private little treat, or if is universally beloved? It certainly is amazing.
The JTR ending
Forever in love with this version of Spoon. Sigh... That banjo though

The epilogue reminds me of That's the Way off Led Zeppelin III. They probably use the same chords or something, but I don't know much about that
This is my fav!! I hope one day i'll get to hear this live and with Alanis too : )
By far one of the all time classics

Have Dave and Alanis ever performed this live?
No. Brandi Carlisle has a few times
Out of all the possible DMB songs in the catalog, picking a favorite is a daunting task. There is just something so pure, quaint, and real about Spoon. It also reminds me of the one I let get away. If you happen to read this one day CS, you still have my heart and always will.
I alone have accounted for 1000 of these views
Day P same 😂😂😂😂

This song never gets old. A true classic.
Ah ha right!
Followed D.M.B. back in the mid '90s, experienced a couple of his stellar iive concerts in the S.F. Bay Area back then. Have to highly agree with some of the other comments. This is and will always be my all time favorite song they've ever written and recorded. Thanks for making my morning while enjoying my latte. Cheers.
This reminds me of my life
I don't care what you say this is my favorite song
My favorite
I love this song
This song makes me think about my life
classic dmb..... masterpiece
This song is so amazing I love this
This song means a lot to me- the first time I listened to it I was on my college overnite orientation when I went off by myself to wander the campus after the day's events, and dinner were over. I walked through the trees and through the buildings listening to this as a thunderstorm rolled through and there were lightening strikes to the north over the old campus and football stadium. I was floored by the syncopation of my experience and the lyrics as I first surveyed what at that time was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. I wouldn't call it an anthem for my college experience but the message about 'sinners sin, come now and play' were pretty right on for my own naivete as an 18 year old about to embark on a real adventure. It takes me back to my headspace in an instant which is testament to the transcendent power music can have. Wonderful
The way you just described this memory literally made me feel like I was there with you! Its sad to look back at college years. Times we wish we could go back to.
God Bless!
I Miss Roi... : . (...
Before These Crowded Streets is simply a masterpiece.
alex vwenz no lies detected.
This is a great song! Alanis Morissette was terrible (including live performance there after). You ruined it!
One of my favorites
my favorite dmb song
Truly an amazing song. Saw him perform this live a few times. His performance at Jiffy Lube Live in VA back in 2014 was Epic! This song was the first encore. Brought the house down. It was literally pouring rain (raining sideways) at the amphitheater and not a soul had left. Thousands of people just dancing in the rain while Dave poured out his soul!
17 people are dead inside....
bigray1999 search Black and Bluebird, Belly belly nice, If only, So right, Butterfly, You and me, Samurai Cop, the stone, his some devil solo album, grace is gone, stay or leave, #36, #41, Seven, etc...
Widen your variety, because the problem here is you not Dave...
@TheSeekieRS - I Do Stuff I have 3 of his albums; I am well acquainted with his vocals. "Gravedigger" is particularly good. I also like "I Did It."
bigray1999 me as well as any other Davehead you ask on this site or anywhere in the world will tell you that they understand what Dave says just fine, just because you don't doesn't mean he's a bad singer, it doesn't mean that Madonna's better or he needs to change his way of singing. just because you want him to change doesn't mean anyone else does
bigray1999 I own 8 of his albums and those are just the big releases I own several different live Trax and many many songs on itunes
bigray1999 but I've had enough arguing where is the love that's what Dave's music is all about it's about love it's about people so tell you what let's drop this conversation here, I'm glad I met you, you did teach me some valuable things. Much LoVE M8
is this sad or beautiful?
Ike Machover all of the above
Ike Machover its sad.
Magical … now where is may smoke and drink … I'm going to cry.
even a bigger fan of Dave now that he teamed up with Alanis.. she is way cool ..what yr was this done?

If i look back on all the artists and songs that i consider my favorite , this song stands out and for me it is considered by far the best song of all times (IMHO)
Thank you Dave Matthews for an amazing master piece, Thank you Alanis.
Ashraf Husseini I agree completely. It's such a beautiful interplay between the male and female energies.
When I was a kid i thought he was literally singing about a spoon in a spoon
I LOVE That..
Truly mesmerizing...just a beautiful song.
Good Stuff! I have a Dave Matthews cover that's worth a watch as well. Much appreciated.
=)
Great song! wore out the tape in 98!
This song takes me back in time !
bela and alanis really elevated this tune. the entire album actually. very cool.
The best part about this song is Bela Fleck...
Hey! I saw you commenting on an Eric Clapton video, and thought I'd share my newest cover of "Promises" with you. Let me know what you think! Thanks and have a great day!! Promises (Eric Clapton Cover) by Matt Burton Live Acoustic Performance
Definitely my all-time favorite DMB song.
can't believe there isn't one clip of Alanis doing this live with DMB her lyrics are haunting
little bela fleck on the banjo too
Like why did this never apparently happen
ft. alanis morissette? more like ft. bela fleck. his solo make the song
Bela Fleck plays on this song? I knew I loved that banjo solo...
This song haunts me, such strong emotions every time I hear it, takes me back to my early military days
Una de mis canciones favoritas por siempre. Minuto 2: 53... uff genial este duo

haahhaahahahha that comment made my day
hahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
my fave song .. . .. alanis is the reason i love this
I love this song and whole album :-) One of the best I've ever heard.
amazing song and Alanis is just so haunting.
They just played it for the first time this tour tonight in Hartford. Love the summer Friday and Saturday Hartford CT DMB shows.
I can't decide whether I like 2 step or Jimi Thing more
it's MINE!!!!!!!
Couldn't agree more.
A very emotionally stirring song, and one that is like a time stamp, for me in my life. Dave Matthew's Band, were one of my favorite bands growing up in the 90's, and being a young adult in the early 2000's. They had the ability to always touch a nerve emotionally, both with their music, and lyrics. Alanis on this song, was a genius pick.
Best of all her music.
maybe im craaazy....one of my favs!
I think I first heard of Dave Matthews Band with this song when I was looking for rare songs of Alanis Morissette. They have other great songs, but to this day this remained my favorite.
On my way, came up with the answers. I scratched my head and the answers were gone. Yeah, that'll happen.
Yep. And Halloween, very briefly. Alanis is the reason I bought the album, and the reason I ended up getting into DMB.
She appears on Don't Drink the Water too, just not in a major vocal way. Same album.
Alanis brought me to this song.
yes and yes
THIS SONG MAKES ME WANT TO HANG OUT WITH BLACK GUYS BUT IN A DAVE MATTHEWS WAY ME IN FRONT BLACK GUYS IN THE BACK,YEAH THATS THE TICKET
Im 15 and i listend to nothing else;)
im your age, and i do :)
yes, they dated. he is Matthew
This outro is my absolute FAVE!!! Perfection!
I remember Dave described Alanis' vocals as angelic. Did they date? Is he the same Matthew in "Unsent"?
this song is like a lucid dream, floating mist and fluid. I love it
Is this the final version version that ended up on the album? It seems like I hear occasional, albeit very slight, differences.
Guess knife & fork didn't like this song.
This is from the best (in my opinion) the best and most ground breaking albums. "Btcs" album is hands down the best one yet!
Dave Matthews with Alanis Morissette....pure MAGIC!!!
@neemanmedical My favourite is Lie in our graves, specially the instrumental part where DM is heard saying "oh no!" :)
not the best song, but certainly is close
@DMB4109 love it!!!!!!
one of my first favorite DMB songs LOVE IT
@TheKeeblerelff i know what you mean! when i say my favourite band is DMB, noone knows :( makes me a little sad i have noone to bond with over their music...except for you guys on youtube!
@shan4short i gotta say my favorite right now is pig, but it changes all the time, but this is the best overall albulm i think
dreaming tree is my fav
this was the best album ever. althought all were legendary in my book
Great song, love the lyrics, and as Dave M. himself said, Alanis sings like and angel on this one. Love the contributions from her and from Bela.
