This is Dave’s masterpiece album. I have played these songs from Alone Together since 1970. DM is one of the unsung talents of the 1960s, with Traffic, Delaney and Bonnie, Jimi, and others. Still puts on a great show today.

Covered it..... no, Traffic was first. I believe Dave Mason wrote it back in 1971.

This is odd. It says Leon Russell and John Simon on the credits for this song. Not the lp but the song. Were there 2 pianos on this? I have read in several different places that Leon played on this song only.

@freeholdnative For me I loved his music from when I was 13 (in 1967), which was way back in the Traffic days. I saw them on TV playing "Hole In My Shoe" and thought to myself, what a brilliant tune. Dave Mason wrote it.

I have known them both and they're playing styles well. This track is unmistakably John Simon on piano.

Amen, and amen. I had this on tape in a VW van that was the soundtrack for exploring Mendocino in the early 70's. Lost youth, found music! So it goes.

I had the LP, it was so cool. Like someone threw it on a spin wheel with paint tossed on. Very cosmic, loved to watch the record turn. Too bad not many know of him. I loved his voice, lyrics, & melody's.

My copy of this album is tie dyed vinal.Very rare !

I still have this LP...the first batch was a "swirly" mix of various colors in making the acetate material...after that you could only get the LP in regular black...anybody know what I'm talking about? If you do, you have a collectible Dave Mason LP! woo hoo ^/^

Mine is like that too. it's called marble vinyl. was very cool as it resembled the rocks on the cover a little bit.

Yes , I still have mine as well. Dave said in an interview that no two records were the same & they did the record that way cause it was the only way they could get the radio DJs to play the whole record as they couldn't find the separate tracks . The interview is on YT.

This record was one of 1970's Top Albums...Great songwriting, excellent vocals, & great musicians...Every track was excellent, a Masterpiece...but was largely overshadowed by the Beatles, & their break-up...The beginnings of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, & other heavy rock acts...

I was at that concert at the Universal Ampitheater in 1976. That was a very special night, Dave and team we at the top of their game. We purchased the album shortly thereafter and have been enjoying it ever since. It's a hidden treasure.

the Gov't Mule 12 min blues rock version is also great, very different but even more grievous

Right you are! But too many folks gave in to the Establishment and material crap. Others went off to live in isolated places far from the bullcaca. Others ohdeed. And a lot never really were in control of their lives to begin with. With the rise of the neocons and resurgence of racism I eventually felt like such an outsider in my own country that I left, too. Never looked back. No regrets.

Then lost the rest of my 8-tracks and new player in the Acapulco airport in '74. I used to love listening to Hair over and over the year it came out. 'Bout drove my mother crazy. Dave Mason's music is timeless. My parents liked him.

One of the best albums ever recorded!!! What happened to our generation? We should have done so much more by now. This whole gulf oil spill never would have happened if we would have gone green. We knew better and we let the military industrial complex keep their power. Shame on us. At least CA is about to legalize pot. That should have happened ages ago.

a real classic

Dave Mason was one of those artists who never got the recognition the quality of his music deserved. Alone Together and the self titled Dave Mason album were two of my favorite albums from the early 70s. Great music. I think his version of All Along the Watchtower is the greatest version of the song ever recorded, and I'm including Dylan and Hendrix.

Fond memories of Dave performing this one in concert at Bowling Green University in '76, with the immensely talented Mike Finnigan on keyboards.

Think we should check the liner credits , I dont' recall J.Simon on this record and have two copies [could be wrong]By the way JIM CAPALDI co-wrote and wrote some tunes ,on this AS SANG AND PLAYED ,ALONG WITH A HOST OF GREAT OTHERS,too many to mention ....

Leon plays on a couple of the songs on this album, "Alone Together". Leon is great! I grew up in Tulsa and used to see him sometimes at local clubs, was also invited to his home studio and got to play on his big black grand piano once.

But this track is unmistakably John Simon's brilliant, plaintive piano embellishment.

So many of the r&r legends had major solo offerings around this time. (Leon, Eric, Todd, Edgar, Johnny, Rod, etc.) Dave Mason's "Alone Together" is a classic!!!
