Dassin, Joe - Indian Summer Lyrics

You know, I've never been as happy as I was that morning
We were walking along the beach a little like this one
It was a rare kind of autumn day that you only find in North America
Over there they call it "Indian summer"
What it was just our summer
And I can see you now in your long dress
Looking like a beautiful water-colour
And I can remember what I told you that morning
A year ago
A thousand years ago

Think of me, when this is just a memory,
Will you still belove in me
When the summer is gone?
All my life the taste of you will fill my life
Even when the summer is gone...

Today I'm far away of not-autumn morning
But it's almost as if I was there.
I'm thinking of you. Where are you? What are you doing?
Do I still exist for you? I'm like a wave drawn by the moon
Slipping back on the sand, remembering high tides
Remembering the happiness in the sun shining over the sea
A thousand years ago
Or was it just last year?

Think of me, when this is just a memory,
Will you still belove in me
When the summer is gone?
All my life the taste of you will fill my life
Even when the summer is gone...

oh my god... I used to listen this song back then in my childhood... and now almost 40 years later I do speak english fluently... I found this song once again and I've realized it is just what happened to me... I had a French Fiancée for 5 years, the very last time I seen her, was in summer... right after June,July and August, the Indian Summer came, September then she left me without a word, without explanations, without knowing the reasons... and now I have seen her last time in Summer and abandoned me in the Indian Summer, not to mention the song is French and her name is even included in the credit rolls called Annie, by know it now this song touches me even way more, however it brings me down also, I should state and express "beautiful memories" and "comfortable nostalgia", well it's nostalgic but is just tearing the tears out of my eyes after realizing what it's all about, now I do consider it to be "melancolic" but in a good way, this music is just awesome, very well done, what a masterpiece...

oh my. what a coincidence. don't look back mate. if God had wanted us to look back, might have put a couple of eyes on our necks.

Love it... Music and lyrics for centuries

  20. I.... B....

I like the English version a lot

  21. a.... w....

It is interesting that in its all three versions (in three languages) this song stays almost the same. Bears the same power and magique. Another remarkable note: the lyrics. The Joe Dassin's lyrics are not cheesy and peachy -ever, he uses common words to describe feelings of unimaginable depth and magnitude. The way he expresses complete and unflawed yet rock-solid feelings of love without any of the overused, worn out words, it's just stunning. This is so mature, so credible and serious yet perfectly happy. His love is not a tormented one even though he speaks about departing - he cannot see anything else just her light illuminating his life beyond time and space. It is possible for a woman to deserve a man like this?

"His love is not a tormented one even though he speaks about departing"

yup but in this very case it's him the tormented one, I strongly assuming his love(r) has forgotten him a long time ago when it comes to flashbacks like this one...

"he cannot see anything else just her light illuminating his life beyond time and space"

not neccesary, according to the lyirics of the song, it's just a moment of flashback, I believe he's able to see through, he's just remembering back, what it used to be, what it was like back then it those times, it happens to me once per 2-3 months, it is that so-called "wine and nostalgia" effect, it goes for every single human being except for if the one hasn't got that high Emotional Intelligence, I wouldn't call it "cruel" but like this way it's way more easier to go on, that "time to let it go" comes so easily to these sort of people, well, after all I do mean, it's all relative...

"illuminating his life beyond time and space"

I know exactly what you mean by that but I ask you, what if he hadn't walked on that beach where he spent the peak time of their life? perhaps then he wouldn't even have flashbacked, I believe it was the beach where their peak moments took place which triggered these feelings in him...

well and when it comes to love I would rather stay away word such term as "time" and "space"...

    oke, minden jot nektek!
