Even if most songs on Transilvanian Hunger and Panzerfaust have repetive riffing and tremolo picking played over and over, it`s kinda what makes the albums if you ask me. These melodic and sad/haunting riffs just screams atmosphere. A blaze in the northern sky is my favorite album though.

The Enlightened Centrist old star isn't as bad as I expected unlike the previous album, I will agree their first few albums were pure ecstacy

I always though this albun had the highest production levels of any of the classic darkthrone albums. You can actually almost hear the drums, and can actually hear the riffs.

I feel like the vocals were a tad higher then what could've sounded really balanced such as in Transylvanian Hunger where the vocals were equally placed with the instruments , although I feel farther in the song it evens out for some reason, as if he backed away from the mic . I think too much .

The vocals are delivered great, but they are mixed in such a way that the instruments get quieter whenever there are vocals. Like a radio DJ talking over a song. It's poor on the producer's part, not Ted's performance.

I'm confused by the release date of this. my dad, who is an old school punker/metalhead, also made me mix tapes of different punk and metal shit. on one of them, he put this song. I believe it was 1993/1994, not 1995. I know this because we had just discovered Nine Inch Nails via the Broken ep, The Downward Spiral was not out yet.
He has the Panzerfaust vinyl, and I doubt it was an early release since we live in Texas.
anyway, I remember he put this as the first track on the b-side of a tape. blew my fucking mind and scared the shit out of me. I was only 13-14 years old, not sheltered, but never heard anything so dark or cold at that age!

My dad had a stash full of interesting music. He basically shaped my music taste and is the reason why I listen to 70s and 80s music as much as I do. My journey to "extreme" metal started with an original CD of Metallica's Ride the Lightning (before then, I had been a huge Black Sabbath and Deep Purple fan). I was lucky enough to meet people with good taste in metal on the internet and I got into all sorts of extreme metal sub-genres. I've basically come full circle around 2012 when I went back to "non-metal" experimental music. Still come back to this music every once in a while, I enjoy playing it on guitar and it's still some of the best music to play in your car during a winter night.

It was 1995 - I know because I purchased it the week it came out.

Yes, indeed. However, there are still bands keeping BM alive like Immortal, Inquisition, Dark Funeral and some others. But the true norwegian black metal ended in 94' or 95'.

I'm 25 so I'm the odd one out here (I wasn't even 18 yet when I uploaded this). After all these years all I can say is I agree. Old school black metal has left us, but at least it left us with some gems that I come back to even now. People need to learn to appreciate what the history of music (in this case, black metal) left us and let go of the past. Every time we feel nostalgia, the music is there, alive as it has always been. We don't need a new Panzerfaust, we don't need cheap imitations. Old school black metal died 20 years ago, let's respect the legacy, no need to ride on it.

I love some metal music, I grew up listening to it but only occasionally dabble in it here in my mid 20s, but I hate how some closeminded younger metal fans are. The Norwegian black metal scene in the early 90s made some awesome music, but their attitudes were laughable. No laughing?
