Darin, Bobby - Sunday In New York Lyrics

New York on Sunday,
Big City taking a nap!
Slow down, it's Sunday!
Life's a ball, let it fall in your lap!
If you've got troubles,
Just take them out for a walk.
They'll burst like bubbles
In the fun of a Sunday In New York!
You can spend time without spending a dime,
Watching people watch people pass!
Later you pause, and in one of those stores
There's that face next to yours in the glass!
Two hearts stop beating,
You're both too breathless to speak!
Love smiles her greeting,
Then the dream that has seen you thru the week
Comes true on Sunday In New York!
New York on Sunday,
Big City taking a nap!
Slow down, it's Sunday!
Life's a ball, let it fall in your lap!
And if you've got troubles,
Go take them out for a walk.
They'll burst like bubbles
In the fun of a Sunday In New York!
You can spend time without spending a dime
Watching people watch people pass!
Later you pause, and in one of those stores
There's that face next to yours in the glass!
Two hearts stop beating,
You're both too breathless to speak!
Love smiles her greeting,
Then the dream that has seen you thru the week
Comes true on Sunday In New York!
Comes true on Sunday In New York!

Darin, Bobby Sunday In New York Comments
  1. D.... K....

From a great album and every song is great.

  2. h.... ....

New York does NOT take naps.

  3. T.... P....

Love when they play this at Yankee Stadium on sundays

  4. A.... R....

    The man was class

    A.... R....

    Without a doubt.
    Pure brilliance

  5. J.... V....

Great song...I live in Florida now, but NYC is still my playground..You can find me in NYC

  6. A.... T....

This was the song I danced to my favorite

  7. L.... M....

I do dancing like the stars with my school

  8. B.... D....

This song reminds me of going to Yankee Stadium on Sunday and they would play it through the loudspeaker..It would be late in the game like the 7th inning

    B.... D....

I was just about to say the same thing. Whenever I hear this I think of a warm sunny Sunday afternoon in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium, especially the old stadium. The good old days.

    B.... D....

They still play it but before Sunday games. So close to hearing it again!

  9. d.... ....

I heard this at a restaurant in New York

  10. L.... G....

Darin owns this song. His slick effervescence makes this probably the definitive recorded vocal version. Also, the grand and tasteful orchestration makes this version superior to Mel Torme's in my opinion. It captures the crisp, cosmopolitan spirit that marks New York City.

    L.... G....

Luther G Williams Could not agree more — well said!

    L.... G....

Luther G Williams yes it effervesces! Maybe helps to be a New Yorker to sing it with such verve!

  11. H.... F....

They play this on Sunday's before New York (A) games!

  12. A.... ....

I like both Mel's and Bobby Darin's versions.

  13. s.... ....

Gosh, can't get enough of Bobby Darin and this song...so many great memories of the '60's, this movie...makes me want to move back to New York (yeah, I'm old), but like home, it's changed and its time has passed.  But, we can all still hear Bobby singin' this and dream.....

  14. H.... J....

    What a great song

  15. G.... C....

    Outstanding!

  16. k.... c....

ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES BY BOBBY DARIN !!

  17. M.... P....

Ok but Mel Torme did it better.

    M.... P....

BOBBY DARIN SUNG THE SONG AS A POP SONG. BUT THIS IS A SWING JAZZ SONG. TOME'S VERSION WAS DONE THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED AS HE WORKED WITH PETER NERO THE WRITER.

    M.... P....

Sorry, but Darin OWNS this song....NO ONE does it better than the man, Bobby Darin!

    M.... P....

@Jack Stubbington yea Bobby was cool too!
