Dan Fogelberg - Illinois Lyrics

Dusty day dawning
Three hours late
Open the curtains
And let the rest wait

My mind goes running
Three thousand miles east
I may miss the harvest
But I won't miss the feast

And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
Illinois, oh, Illinois, Illinois, Illinois

South California
Your sun is too cold
It looks like your hills
Have been raped of their gold

I should have come out
When I was first told
This lamb has got to
Return to the fold

And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
Illinois, oh, Illinois
Illinois, I'm your boy

Flat on the prairies
Soil and stone
Stretching forever
Taking me home

'Cause I've got a woman
Who waits for me there
And I need a breath of that
Sweet country air

And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
And it looks like you're gonna
Have to see me again
Illinois, oh, Illinois
Illinois, Illinois
Illinois, Illinois
Illinois, I'm your boy

Proud to be from Pekin, Illinois, and to have grown up listening to this man. PCHS forever! Every time I come home to Illinois I think of this song, glad to be an Illinois boy.

I was in the service in 1975 when I heard "Part of the Plan" on the radio, and was stunned. When I got out, my best friend gave me the album (yes the vinyl) and I played it to for years, It is still in my collection ,even if in sad shape. Thanks for posting. Dan is missed.

Champaign boy here. A good friends older brother used to watch Dan at a CU club "Chances R". It,s funny I moved to san diego Ca. and saw Dan there in the 90,s. He said I am going to play a song about my home. I thought alright here comes Illinois. Nope He played a song about Colorado.

I went to HS with Dan. Just an all around artist. He could act, draw (he did the sketch on the Twin Sons of Different Mothers album) and obviously sing. His band in HS were called The Coachmen (a takeoff on Paul Revere) and were quite good also.

I wonder who was the poor, sad soul who, so far, has been the only thumbs-down (20.11.2015). Great song from a 40+ years follower in Australia.
