Dan Bull - Frostpunk Lyrics

[Dan Bull:]
I still remember the day the frost descended
It was the end of empty threats
From a God who must have meant it
We must have crossed a deity whom our greed and lust offended
And upon whose plentiful benevolence each of us depended

The biting chill swept across the lofty life we'd built
'Til mighty buildings were left crushed to look like tiny hills
The frost lifted up the rock exposing all society's ills
Those we tried not to think about for what we might reveal
We set a course and travelled forth to grab resources
From the shrapnel of oil tankers and man of war ships
Battle forces we hadn't planned to have a war with at all before
But now we have a lack of choice
This is the new reality, a gloomy anarchy looming
Held in the hand of one human, who is that man? It's me
Can't say I feel proud, this doesn't warrant vanity
The looking glass is frosted over and we cannot see
So we place our faith and hope and dreams in smoke and steam
I mean, why would we go to those extremes if we don't believe
So hunker down and dig in for the coldest winter tide
Since you convinced your prideful self that you've nothing to hide

[The Stupendium:]
The wheels of progress frozen motionless
Unless we thaw all these unspoken spokes
Then death is coming home
The wheels of progress frozen motionless
Unless we thaw all these unspoken spokes
Well then we're going home

[Dan Bull:]
Ever since the first of us huddled round the fire
With nothing to hide, but animal hides as attire
Our entire world was centred and dependent on supplies of carbon
The new oxygen that we require to respire
We pampered life's complexities, manufactured luxuries
While suffocating nature's lungs when we cut the trees
Now our comeuppance seems to be to huddle round the fire
With everything to hide and animal hides as attire
What goes around will come around, whatever's underground
Will come up now you're not expecting it and damn well hunt you down
So hunker down and dig in for the coldest winter tide
Since you convinced your prideful self that you've nothing to hide

[The Stupendium:]
The wheels of progress frozen motionless
Unless we thaw all these unspoken spokes
Then death is coming home
The wheels of progress frozen motionless
Unless we thaw all these unspoken spokes
Well then we're going home

[Dan Bull:]
Our stomachs are the furnaces, our open throats the chimney
Our hearts the flowing pumps that need the bellow lungs to bring heat
But our brittle bodies are a pitiful device
Trying to subsist upon a trickle of supplies
With the vittles diminishing I don't think it will suffice
Although species evolve quicker when it's difficult to thrive
But that theory isn't something that always applies
Deprive us enough, we'll suffer our inevitable demise
We are each expendable but the city must survive
It's just a pleasant bonus if it keeps us alive
So hunker down and dig in for the coldest winter tide
Since you convinced your prideful self that you've nothing to hide

[The Stupendium:]
The wheels of progress frozen motionless
Unless we thaw all these unspoken spokes
Then death is coming home
The wheels of progress frozen motionless
Unless we thaw all these unspoken spokes
Well then we're going home

"We'll march on to SPITE THE SKIES..."

This line... it just Grabs me.

  3. t.... w....

    Order for me

  4. A.... ....

In terms of memes I think people are more likely to join religious groups rather just out right organizations. I think mentally it justifys an ideas existence of there is a religion for it.

    Just me I guess

  5. P.... ....

I have now joined the ranks of order, because faith cannot gather the resources we need to survive.

  6. N.... G....

dan bull and stupendium are like rapper verson of jacksepiceye and markiplier

  7. B.... A....

there is one overwhelming truth in Dan's line that makes me think he won this battle for honesty alone by saying it clearly.

"If a single person falls out of line, we all do"

That single line is what motivated our ancestors in the real world to build a society and civilization in the first place. Since in frostpunk nature has forced us to a "do or die" situation like our fathers before us, the first Men, we returned to a place where there is no room for error no room for freedom. Presuming that the captain *DOES NOT* live in luxury and free from work like the totalitarism in modern worlds shown us, If he truly leads discipline by exemple, there is no sin in what he does. While faith tries to bind our soul through hope in a prophet, the captain binds hope in our work as a comunity to survive through sheer will and discipline, that alone is a miracle if you ask me.

    B.... A....

If something like this happened in real life it would have to be a little of both. You would have to have order so people got the necessary work done as soon as possible. Then you would need faith to keep people's minds sane because if they just worked from sun up to sun down they would go insane. As the group got more established they would turn more to faith because they would require less order from a building stand point but they would need more order in the head so they dont get complacent and still make a better future for the next generation. And that line could have worked for either side because if one person falls out of line in faith it could lead to more falling out of line in that faith.

    B.... A....

@Baseball Bear I see, well it makes sense that as time goes by faith becomes more important, and little by little a new cultural civilization is born through it to the point that order begins to serve faith, as it was in this way that our ancestors paved the way for future generations. though this process did take a long way i agree with you on what you said. I guess the way i meant to make my point was that this situation as presented by the game takes place in the very first years of the founding of this new london and so when in the middle of grievance for the life of confort that people lost, to make a stand and work together through order was the best they could to survive as there was much to be done, and the captain actually managing to do that would be a miracle itself. And yes the line of Dan about falling out of line could be applied through unity through faith

  8. J.... t....

how could we pick you guy spit some shit.

  9. D.... ....

    Great collaboration!

  10. c.... ....

i wonder what would happen if both order and faith was in the same city

  11. D.... D....

I liked how you had someone else rapping instead of playing both sides.

  12. N.... H....

Joy Division made a New Order ... nice reference to my youth, the result for me is a score draw😁

  13. t.... ....

The win is the one who survived.

  14. N.... S....

Absolutely loved the chorus of the two singing together. Different paths, same impossible goal.

  15. S.... M....

It feels like Stupendium and Danbull's previous frostpunk songs has them come to the conclusion of the faction they represent in this one, like in Stupendium's, the final verse is very sacrificial, and almost spirtual, andDanbull talks about a world of frigid ice on the verge of anarchy, the only man who could lead the remnants of mankind being himself. so if both of your songs were foreshadowing this collabs conflict? I gotta say , you guys have some enviable organization skills!

  16. t.... ....

This sounds a lot like communism but I'm oddly on-board.

    t.... ....

sounds like it but if you think through it isn't and it could work in this setting. Communism sought redistribution of wealth while here there is no wealth, there is no confort, only survival. It is much more primal and in its honesty of the cause as the true enemy itself is constant and relentless (the weather) and not a distorted point of view of a social class system, can and should make it the best option to have the discipline of order to unite our will to survive through nature's wrath

  17. W.... ....

Come people. Let us march to work!

  18. C.... F....

Idk why, but I’m getting a Metro 2033 vibe from this song (especially the chorus), despite knowing its for Frostpunk.

  19. K.... G....

Since both sides are tyrannical and have the same morals/goals in the end, I'm with Order. Why have tyranny that wastes your time with psalms and prayers when you could have tyranny that actually gets something done? Praying gets you nowhere here.

  20. A.... O....

    I love it !!!

  21. J.... M....

    This is incredibly epic.

  22. S.... N....

One day I will have a broad enough vocabulary to understand half of these words

  23. j.... l....

best moment in the song, why... well let`s just say that the frost do not give a single care if you are pro order or even pro faith.
It will just freeze you and kill you without distinction.
This is the common enemy enough saied.

  24. P.... ....

    The best faction its...

    Order,
The faith its a lie to make people stay home and dont piss off the kings,
    But the order never lies,
    The order,

  34. G.... S....

I don't know why Faith and Order won't just... team up or something?

  35. T.... T....

I just saw the disloyal sigh in the background. Nice

  36. T.... C....

I have listened to both a few times (ok like 12 each) at first i thought you last dan, but your lines have a certain punch at the end that really sparks a fire. I deem you the victor 👍

  37. D.... B....

    3:05
    Jesus Christ, that's so brutal.
The death penalty for attending church?
(Never played the game, it might be a possible law)

    D.... B....

It’s not. Churches simply don’t get built. Order and Faith are two separate Tech paths. Order being the better choice obviously.

    D.... B....

@Tucker Cooper Absolutely, you have to be pragmatic in conditions as shit as Frostpunk, and attending church is not a luxury the good people of New London can afford. However, the death penalty?! Is outlawing it not enough? Dan is explicitly threatening hanging for religious people.

  38. T.... R....

    Engagement please

  39. c.... M....

    This is soo good

  40. c.... l....

Order can weld the city and our borders once again, faith only tears us apart and away from our goals

  41. T.... S....

    THE ORDER WILL SAVE US

  42. g.... 7....

what about the stronk engineers in Arks scenario that saved both cities with automatons and needed no book of laws?

  43. b.... b....

    Glory to the order

  44. N.... M....

The opening line from the Faith side was incredibly uplifting, but ultimately hollow. Long live Order! Come on everyone, let's march to work!

  45. A.... N....

    The Faith chorus was heavenly!

  46. N.... ....

hmm.....this makes me imagen frost punk large scale history as a chilled version of the homeworld 'original! no fucking retconing' one.
aka....as the enviromental destruction almost destroyed evry singe vestage of nature ,even to the point of 'shaking' the planets orbital path....the tools abused dooming people become ther only chance of survival agenst the new world transforming climate ,people forming tribes scavanging tech and only able to learn and presserve fractions of it as they war each other.
Only for a isolated small but far more nowledge and rights valuing tribe that hiden its true deepth of knowledge to rise up when the time was ripe..arming & feeding the opressed massed for revolt/reforging of a true United 'nations' tribes and equality as the small tribe brings tech that makes all the exuses of survival obsolite for the despots of all stripes yet also the daming true history of why ther once lush world turned into such a frozen hell.

  48. C.... M....

The stupendium Put Dan bull in order & win Da" Battle!! Coment if your Agree

  49. C.... N....

All this talk about a higher purpose is just madmen's banter. Their divine entity can't stoke the fires.

  50. Z.... h....

Am I the only one who spotted Stupendium in both of the audiences?

  51. s.... ....

I kindof wish there was a neutral ending with both

  52. w.... 1....

  53. T.... P....

I m on order side. In this kind of situation, I'd rather have a dictator than have a liar

  54. N.... ....

  55. T.... r....

Dan Bull: mere VERMIN are the people thus they need to be subservient

People cheer after his heartwarming speech

Dan Bull: (always but +10 into charisma)

  56. T.... D....

nothing wrong with a dictatorship as long as the guy running the show isnt a ass

  57. C.... S....

I'm awaiting that promised GWENT rap still....

  58. c.... n....

order always wins i mean, you can't expect faith to save you in the deathly cold weather while you pray
also order clothes have always been more practical

    c.... n....

Tell that to all of human history. You wouldn't be here if your ancestors didnt have faith through out history. People have gotten through alot by having faith through out history.

  59. V.... L....

I like how both videos end on essentially the same note with different terms. Whether by faith or order the book of law is closed, whether as sheep or vermin you must obey.

  60. M.... ....

I feel like this is an Alternate Universe where Dan has created a powerful regime to rise up and Stupendium is leading an insurgency to stop him.

  61. J.... S....

  65. M.... T....

Dan, where did you get that outfit, I would love to support the Order on your side!

  66. I.... ....

I really like how, in the second part of the chorus, the stained glass evolves to turn the Captain into a god figure, while the propaganda signs, more inspiring at first, reinforce more authoritarian images, with a home being marked in blood as disloyal.

    Really nice touch.

    Gather brothers, gather sisters
Soothe your blisters by the fire
Though our bones may ache and groan
We know our spirits never tire
The temperature's low, but our purpose is much higher
What's behind us mustn't blind us to divineness that transpires
Now our spires have expired, well, she rests in each of you
London's not a place, it wasn't left beneath our boots
And by grace, we have been blessed with that most elegant of truth
You stand here not abandoned, but as testament and proof
For a city is its people, and the people are its heart
Stood together 'gainst the weather 'gainst the coming of the dark
Ne'er a lantern has been lit with oh so righteous a spark
When providence claimed continents, but provided us an ark

We moved north as awful forceful storms removed borders
Forced to leave the warmth behind, the daylight hours grew shorter
Unable to read at night, the people might dispute lawbooks
Ushering the death of joy, division made a new order
Brute force and discipline ensures all the citizens
Are chipping in sufficiently under threat of imprisonment
Liberty's prohibited, retired, it's mandatory compliance now
To keep the fire alight, we need to stamp any defiance out
We can ill afford the price of human rights, nor pay the cost of anger
So we stifle scrutinising eyes astray with propaganda
The only way that we can pull through is under cruel rule
If a single person falls out of line, we all do

    Morning gathering or evening prayer
We still battle for a season fair
We still huddle in the freezing air
For a summer that's not even there
If that sun won't rise on our horizon
We'll march on to spite the skies
And find that wheel of progress so well worn
Brought us no shelter from the storm

I have heard that there are those who would defy us
Who'd choose oppression o'er ascension for the pious
Dissidents without repent are bent on questioning the dias
Twisted iron fist pariahs and their heretic messiah
Winter blizzards to infinity, so sing the hymns and litanies
Hand in and skin the sinners if you wish the skim divinity
Each shiver will deliver us deliverance in time
Burn the innocents for penitence if we preempt the crime
I'm protector of the truth, great erector of the new faith
Defectors and objectors can expect a second doomsday
Unquestioning our destiny, relentless we pursue fate
Alone I have been chosen, to be spoken through by true grace
Frozen omens say we should invoke another crusade

We rush to crush dissent from those who claim we must repent
How could a benevolent god subject us to such events?
Against the elements, precious seconds each of us has spent
Completing public penance could have been invested putting up the tents
    Pragmatism's borne of pessimism
Not a full blown pestilence infecting desperate residents with false hope
Now they've sworn oaths and pledged commitment to a cult
No mercy will be shown or quarter given, fetch the coiled rope
And hang them by the necks until its taut
    The lesson learned is certain:
No forgiveness for giving attention to those worthless sermons
No measure of faith will keep you warm or sate your appetite
So pray heed the warning or we may just have to tax your life

    Morning gathering or evening prayer
We still battle for a season fair
We still huddle in the freezing air
For a summer that's not even there
If that sun won't rise on our horizon
We'll march on to spite the skies
And find that wheel of progress so well worn
Brought us no shelter from the storm

Now the book of laws has closed, you've no hope to try and fight
As the people fall in line and march in time with iron might
    Nonbelievers shan't deceive us
We shall greet their cheek with grievance
In this ceaseless season, we redeem the meek with bleak obedience
Seeking each unheeding heathen, see them bleed or plead allegiance
Blessed be relief from freedom lest you feel the need for treason
Since the precept was decreed, its certainty was predetermined
Mere vermin are the people, thus they need to be subservient
They deserve paternal leadership, eternally prescriptive
Turn a leaf in the journal, weep as you read the scriptures
The book of laws is closed, it's frozen shut and couldn't thaw
But should the storm subside, it might be time to write a couple more

  83. W.... ....

EXCELLENT song you two! Putting this on repeat for a good while :D

EDIT: Also, subbed to The Stupendium and will be checking out his work when I'm able :)

  84. P.... ....

It's really hard to say 'who won'. They both, inevitably, have the same end-goal with different methods. That goal is.. really just a dictatorship. Keeping The City alive and the citizens in line with whatever methods they have. Order is upfront about what they do, and very honest about it all. They know what they're doing and what their purpose is. Faith is far, far worse. They have the ability to rally and motivate people to do any heinous thing their leader wants at whatever price. They're manipulative, charming, and worst of all their leader acts like he's beginning to believe he's a real divine figure in the midst of this. That makes him more dangerous, in my own opinion.

Due to the ending sadly I have to say Order won. As Faith left it up to the person to decide if they survived, and Order was a statement such as "We survived!".

    Only ever one winner.

The darkness within the human soul. The darkness, so easily mistaken for guiding light. The darkness that drives us to strive for something more than survival, something to make us immortal in the minds of those who follow, something to prove that we are better than those who came before.

It is a darkness that we must strive against perpetually, if we wish to stay "more than animal". The darkness... like most aspects of human life... like order... like faith... it is an artificial thing.

And like all other aspects of that which makes us human, it will die with us.

With the extinction of humanity, comes also the extinction of such ideals.

But as long as the wind blows, there will still be music.
