Damned, The - Shut It Lyrics

Every time I talk to you
It's plain to see it's always indecision
Plain as all the faces that you know
Always turn their back on you

And every time you open
Up your mouth - shut it

You're playing around with my heart
Leaving me opened up and bleeding
You laugh at me but it's plain to see
I'm not going to take this thing
You're laying down on me

Why don't you open your mind
Or, shut it - shut it, shut it
Why don't you just shut it!

Every time I talk to you
It's plain to see it's always indecision
Plain as all the faces that you know
Always turn their back on you

And every time you open
Up your mouth - shut it, shut it, shut it
Shut it!
Why don't you just shut it!

Every time you open
Up your mouth - shut it

Damned, The Shut It Comments

Why not have a Damned supergroup, with all the members of the Damned. Like Bryan James and Captain Sensible on guitar, Patricia Morrison, and Stu West on bass, Paul Gray, and Bryan Merrick too on bass for their era, Oxy Moron on keyboards and Dave Vanian, singing lead vocals. I will play guitar for them as well as provide drums, cymbals, amplifiers . I would love to play with you guys as I have played with many bands before.  This band called The Crowd came out in 1976,and we had a whole punk thing going on  in Huntington Beach where I live, with places like The Cuckoo's nest and Safari Sam's.

The Damned did this back in the mid eighties (?). I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium and they had all the members of the band...including Brian James, etc. BTW, I remember The Crowd...saw them many times. LOVED the O.C. punk bands. I was in many bands that were part of that scene.

this why the damned are one of the most influential bands ever the anti beatles now in away even more ground braking than them simply because before the beatles in this country what had we had 2 world wars and not a lot else when this lot came out they had good 16 years of us ruling the world and just trashed it all in one to become the kings at the top of the pile

Completely agree with the "wild, chaotic" comment. But what was so amazing is that it was also profoundly "tight" in terms of timing/beat etc. A few of the songs from that era are certainly in the right ballpark - but "live" they were certainly not a happy bunch! People have always underestimated the non-music contribution Captain made. His character, humour, good-naturedness, child-like charm - they all prevented The Damned becoming too serious or gloomy. Or simply ordinary.

@RedBryn Agreed, rat was the glue that held the Damned together for so many years.

I'd take The Damned without Rat more than without Captain but it's close & it makes me sad.
Pinch is aces by the way....lovely fella.

    @billybadbrakes
I didn't like this line up that much either, even Vanian seemed bored... even if the current line up doesn't have Rat, it's much better in my opinion.
