Damned, The - Idiot Box Lyrics

I can turn you off
Well I just tried and left you off
Tom Verlaine you maybe are
But you sure ain't a rock'n'roll

People standing in the rain
Just to see that screen Verlaine
Supersonic I'll come back soon
'Cause all we got is a marquee moon

Billy Ficca don't waste my time
Just turning on to What's My Line
Preacher boy you're here this night
You should have road the golden stars

People standing in the rain
Just to see that screen Verlaine
Supersonic I'll come back soon
'Cause all we got is a marquee moon

Old Fred Smith works for the box
Oh what a haggard face
Hope he gets a lot of shocks
From his Fender bass

People standing in the rain
Just to see that screen Verlaine
Supersonic I'll come back soon
'Cause all we got is a marquee moon

this is hilarious- i just read that it's a slap at television (the band), after they asked the damned to fly to l.a. to open for them (the damned were apparently thrilled ) but then told them they weren't needed. lol.

rob ridgeway yeah they left them stranded I believe in LA. The story is played out in the reissue for music for pleasure. The whole album is a beautiful debacle. They wanted to get Syd Barrett to produce although he had it been in reality for almost 6 years at that point. They next try to get involved on some level with soft machine and the best I could get Lol coxhil! Which is weird since the song he was on 1970 you know was a Stooges homage. They then get Nick Mason to produce all the while auditioning lunatic Edmonds! The only good thing is they got to record at Britannia Row Studios which had to be upgrade from The Woodshed known as pathway Studios with basher Nick Lowe. Then rat scabies leaves the band and next Jonathan Moss is on drums! And I believe then Brian James booked what insanity.

Heard one song, only the one, sorry to say and it was brilliant. I think it was the opening song of Marquee Moon, See No Evil. But if they treated The Damned like dirt, then good on James and Co. for this song. I think it's the best on MFP.@Arlene the Electric Bass

@Kelly14UK oh I love television. They're my second favourite punk(?) Band. I acknowledge Tom Verlaine is kind of a prick. I just like their music, I find it really funny how well the damned mocked their style.
