Damned, The - Daily Liar Lyrics

Tell me
What's the news today
What is the state of play
I'm drowning
In a sea of words
No life boats on the way

Direct me so
I can find
My way through
The obstacles ahead
Cause I believe
All that you've said
Daily liar

Believe me
With no word of a lie
Happiness is passing by
Trust me
To be your guiding light
On this dark and evil night

Direct me so
I can find
My way through
The obstacles ahead
Cause I believe
All that you've said
Daily liar

With skilful manipulation
Joyriding in the bloody tracks
Of a previous generation
I'm drowning in a raging sea of words
Try to hold on
To a sentence here and there
To stop me going down
Going down going down down down
And I say no no no no no
No no no no no
Do I look like a kind of guy
Who truly believes in the smoke and mirrors
No no no

So tell me
What's the news today
What is the state of play
And knowing
What's right and what is wrong
Your hold on me is gone

Now I know
I'm not at sea
There's a light
A beacon of hope for me
Well take it all with a pinch of salt
Daily liar

Damned, The Daily Liar Comments

The Damned, the first punk band to release a single, first punk band to release an album, first punk band to tour New York, first punk band to break up. With this song they now they sound like The Monkees. haha!!

  2. W.... F....

Needed this back in my life just about now!

  3. j.... h....

paul gray is killing it! even when the other members are being busy it never gets muddy or out of time. well done.

  4. R.... B....

    Awesome 😁👍

  5. R.... B....

    top track

  6. S.... M....

It's the 4th track from the album I listen to, and it's another delusion. Got all the stuff 1977-1984 (not all of the singles), saw them April 1980 (MGE Tour), but I'll keep on thinking THE DAMNED are worth almost nothing after 1984 (and worth the best, before). Pap, a faded copy of something from the Friday 13 EP. Dave's voice has lost all of its deep, eerie personality, it's SO plain...

Obvious nod to the Monkees with that riff, and I love it. Works beautifully. Paul Gray just goes off on this one. LOVE hearing his signature style on these recordings. He has been sorely missed (from The Damned) ever since Strawberries days. The horns are a nice touch as well. My 2nd favorite track off of Evil Spirits.

  8. C.... W....

This track sounds so juvenile. So like the Damned going back to their roots. And why not?

    C.... W....

Their roots? This sounds nothing like anything off their first album Damned Damned Damned.

old punks are not dead and they re giving free lessons to every nowdays bands...i v seen them in athens gr before 12 years with another 200 nostalgic persons and mr Vanian was awosome

  10. e.... ....

Definitely my favourite on the album. Although I really like Evil Spirits and Sonar Deceit as well.

The riff, certainly. The lyric melody makes me think of Pleasant Valley Sunday though!

  13. M.... T....

Great reminds me of the friday the 13th ep era

    M.... T....

Definitely agree there. Brilliant song, as is this!

Having Paul Gray back on board definitely brings that era of the Damned to mind. Both Friday The 13th and Strawberries (plus a bit of Black Album), which I consider their best era for recordings. It’s a great return to form.

Great tunes I'm digging the new record
