In same league at all, there has been greats, good, and amazing, but nothing to his voice. He sings with heart that touches your soul. The last to do that is Elvis at times. ~ I know I am very late to this party, but the rumor about Billy Ray being allegedly gay came from singer Travis Tritt, who was openly jealous of Billy Ray from the start. Why? Who knows. Travis Tritt was talented and successful in his own right, but hey, whatever.

His taunting of Billy Ray led to people wondering what Tritt's problem was. When Billy Ray refused to make any public statements he was asked on Jay Leno's show why he wouldn't respond to the attacks. His response: "My Dad always said that if you stomp in crap you'll only end up stinking."

By remaining a true Southern gentleman and refusing to go low, Billy Ray made Tritt look as foolish as he was. Snarky remarks by Travis about Billy's physique, intimating that Billy Ray " must have been a Chippendale dancer", also hurt Tritt's career. A series of sold out concerts in Kentucky were canceled and Tritt was told publicly that he was not welcome in Billy Ray's home state. This all took place around the time Billy Ray hit big, maybe 1993?

Other country music entertainer's also distanced themselves from Tritt. Even Marty Stuart, with whom he had toured many times and considered a good friend, distanced himself and never did another tour with Tritt.
