Cure, The - Like Cockatoos Lyrics
She walked out of her house
And looked around
At all the gardens that looked
Back at her house
(Like all the faces
And he was standing
At the corner
Where the road turned dark
A part of shiny wet
Like blood the rain fell
Black down on the street
And kissed his feet she fell
Her head an inch away from heaven
And all around the night sang out
Like cockatoos
"There are a thousand things" he said
"I'll never say those things to you again"
And turning on his heel
He left a trace of bubbles
Bleeding in his stead
And in her head
A picture of a boy who left her
Lonely in the rain
(And all around the night sang out
like cockatoos)

Cure, The Like Cockatoos Comments
One of my favourite Cure songs, just wish it was longer.
Pure poetry and amazing production. I was just 15 when listened first and Will never forget that momento.
Dark ‘n stormy 🖤
One of my most fav Cure songs! “And all along the night sang out...”
This song makes me cry and smile with joy at the same time.
That there is ART.
I remember my mom and her friends giving me shit for liking this particular song when I was younger, the fuck were they thinking.
Powerful and Beautiful
A Lucid Dream
I hate the word "goth" used, also "mope" when talking about them. They're just about life- good, bad and indifferent .
Sans doute une des meilleure chanson de The Cure. Tout y est !
Cela fait 22 ans maintenant que j'écoute cette chanson en boucle. Et je n'arrive pas à m'en lasser...
Rha lovely ! Comme disait Gotlib...
i imagined this as a poem, and fell...
"There are a thousand things" he said "I'll never say those things to you again".
Pour Lira, qui aime bien les trucs tristes, parfois
Very under appreciated song.
Man...Look at that.
@Championette Championette?! I have been known as Paladin though I no longer participate....Ohmygod Chanette....Are you a....Strange Girl? You could be - I'd better be careful....
Adam Vesely
Championette is a name I coined for myself inspired from a song by Bright Eyes. Are you familiar with Conor and company?
Perhaps you should proceed with caution lest you find yourself singing “I think I’m falling, I think I’m falling in...” ;)
While I hope to not sing “... and in her head a picture of a boy that left her lonely in the rain...”
@Championette Touche Chanette, touche. No, I'm not familiar, but.... Huh! Bright Eyes, Bright Eyes... I think....Yeah! Air Supply sang a song about Bright Eyes....Cool!
Now, for the rest: Girl, Watch your ass..... I have magic hands, that's a fact. I can do what others can't(this is also true). I'm 52, maybe old enough to be your dad( though I have NO desire for this position). I can make you have multiples if you've never had them(though this is not love), so maybe YOU should be careful . OMG! Chanette! Have you had multiples??
Adam Vesely
Wow... what a response! I don’t participate in that... and you made me blush. Oh my!
@Championette Sorry C, unfortunately I enjoy being outspoken/unspeakable....The blush is nice though....
Por que un álbum. Tan magnífico y onírico como este tiene canciones tan mediocres como hot hot hot o why can I be you, cuanto me jode, sin embargo contiene maravillas, Just like heaven, o like cockatoos,
Robert Smith entrega joyas oscuras y decadentes
This songs are wayyy better than the Ones from Radiohead!
This song has the power to bring me in another dimension where the dark sea is the only landscape you can see
Absolutely exquisite.
One of my favorites <3
Love!
xoxo The Clarences
Put the 1.58 part at 0.25 speed,so romantic...
Ecstasy for the soul...
Mystical moment. After living with a vague memory of this superb song for 20-plus years, I unexpectedly ran across it once again. It is still as good as it was in my memory.
Nice! You're So Lucky!
i love the industrial sound on this one
If My Life Would Have Been Devoid Of The Cure, It Would Not Have Been My Life.
Robert Smith Made Me Feel.
Hits the g spot of my soul
What a masterpiece! Would anyone care to explain the meaning if this song?
Nope. No one would. You have to figure out the meaning if the song!
As robert said for a magazine interview, this song is about and I quote "You know when you're little and it's summer and you're out on the roadside and you sit there and there's a storm where it's just rain. And you go out and it's like, bubbles at your feet. And the next time you see it when you're old, it's like a dream and something upsets you, and you look down and you see bubbles in the road and you sort of cry. That's what that song's about."
And in her head a picture of a boy who left her lonely in the rain and all around the night sang out like cockatoos
Smith is a Genius
9/10. Intro should have been five minutes longer.
Oh my, that bass though? 🎸
Love the bass in this song!!! ♥
My favourite from KMKMKM
più la ascolto e più mi garba
This song *cures* me
i dont get it
A pleasure and dark surprise from that l.p.
The beauty of poetry <3
Klaudija Vorihi Yessssss! is captured in Every Cure song! Such an amazing piece!!
There was simply no indication of Radziski, anywhere… I was walking around in ever sickening and expanding circles. The majority of the people I spoke to were unhelpful… either too scared, didn’t care less or were bang off their blockheads… fuelled by the dust, alcohol or other illegally induced substances… She was most likely holed up in an unlicensed bed-let… somewhere squalid… in the converted cellars, gutters or sewers… festering, stewing and surely relishing the notoriety… I should have realised… keep down low… It’s what I would do if I was one of Mega-London’s most wanted, hated… There were far too many shit holes to conceive… and as that long night crawled further downwards I began to steadily run out of any useful ideas and steam… The slaggard was out there somewhere… and I couldn’t find her... the thought made me physically shudder, I had to concede.
Artie-8356 message me, did you do this? who is it
Temporarily, attention was drawn up to the higher level, a line of joyous droids were dancing around, under a flashing blue notice board “Welcome to Shoreditch Multi-plaza” and then I lost sight and skidded quickly from the deluge below some awnings. I turned around to look at the department shop displays, of the immaculate human/droid mannequins offering services with various products to show… One of the window workers caught the near disinterest and for a split moment, I was transfixed, hit hard with a compulsion to purchase. She/It was marketing… pheromonic fragrances, and then I automatically tuned out of the deal. I took the connection away… maybe I’ll get a gift later… for Rosa… The idea had been subliminally implanted.
Please do not comment ever again. No one wants to hear from you.
flying, bubbling up, dying
Annoying.
One of the best Gothic music tracks. I appreciate the upload.
hell of a song.
One of the best The cure songs, and one of most dark songs ever, almost apocalyptical
The end of a relationship is like losing a war. Everything is gone. It should sound apocalyptic.
one of Most dark ...? I like this song really but listen: 'All cats are grey' - 'The Funeral Party' - 'Lamen't or 'The Figurehead' ....
when i hear this i hear words at some of the instrumental parts and there is this very distinct part that says here we go here we go here we go
I just read that this song was inspired by 'the Cockatoos' by the great writer Patrick White. The lyrics have always fascinated me, Has anyone read this book?
Thanks. I remember Robert Smith mentioning it was based on a story but didn't note the author.
They did this last night in Sydney. KMKMKM has been overlooked a lot in their live sets that I've seen. Lovely to hear this one played live.
I was at that concert too! I can't believe that after 40 years, they can still put on a three-hour show of such quality.
They show no signs of stopping anytime soon either :))
I was there too. I LOVE this song, & was so happy to hear it live with the great screen projections to embellish it.
Was great to hear this one live, the Syd show was great! I did hope for a strange day though
Me too! A Strange Day is one of my very favourites.
for a faithless bitch..deidre burn
This song reminds me of Blade Runner
She walked out of her house
And looked around
At all the gardens that looked
Back at her house
(Like all the faces
That quiz when you smile...)
And he was standing
At the corner
Where the road turned dark
A part of shiny wet
Like blood the rain fell
Black down on the street
And kissed his feet she fell
Her head an inch away from heaven
And her face pressed tight
And all around the night sang out
Like cockatoos
"There are a thousand things" he said
"I'll never say those things to you again"
And turning on his heel
He left a trace of bubbles
Bleeding in his stead
And in her head
A picture of a boy who left her
Lonely in the rain
(And all around the night sang out
like cockatoos)
And I cried
Smith was a great poet.
this song kills me, each fucking time. then I come back here, each fucking day. to sink in silk
Missed a few words..I've had these lyrics memorized since 1986
clairelenoir thanks 😊
best piece of music ever made
What a gem this song is! never really appreciated this unusual song until now ( 20 years later ;)
+Der lachende Vagabund good one ; ) 20 years ago is just a reference to time when I used to be a big teenage cure fan......darling.
I've always liked this one but have only just 'discovered' "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep"
It's the same for me. Somehow the music that I used to not like on this album became my favorite. I think this was the album that really became a collaborative effort. This is why it became the eclectic masterpiece it turned out to be. Most people praise Disintegration and that is a superb album but this one is the one I keep coming back to more often.
@Dario Wirtha I absolutely agree, somehow this album was lost on me because of that dark glory of Pornography or Disintegration albums....Now I see it as you said an eclectic masterpiece.....One more time is another nice one for me....I have The Cure on my gym music these days, what an irony.
brilliant
J'ADOOOOORE
Love this song! I feel like i am back in Connecticut in the 80s
#1 Cure song. Haunting and romantic.
