This is not Goth at all. You are just superimposing that onto the song because it's The Cure. The idea that the Cure are goth has always been up for debate, and this song would be a terrible one to use in favour of the argument that the Cure are goth. You probably weren't even born when this song came out, let alone a part of the Goth scene of the early 80s.

Well, few people know what was the "New Wave".
For me it was Pop music, not much to dance (like Disco Sound) that came after Punk.
'Indie" bands like the Cure and more did a few pop songs to enter the Charts.
Personally I like this song, its a quality pop song. I like pop like Beach Boys

Oz had plenty Avant Garde post punk bands. You Aussies are lucky.

As a Canadian, I didn't even hear the Cure until 1989 a the earliest. They weren't on the radio. They weren't on the music video shows on TV. The only people in Canada that really listened to them in the 80s were the kids that went to clubs or had some sort of UK connection. However, Disintegration came out, and more people knew of them, YET they still weren't on the radio, unless you lived in Toronto where there was an alternative radio station that normal people could listen to. That was right when alternative was becoming mainstream, so a couple of stations changed their format a bit and thankfully you could at least hear bands like The Cure if you were lucky enough to find the right station. It was pre-internet, so people weren't sharing music that way, but if you had a friend with good taste in music, you could borrow a CD or record and make a tape for yourself. When I discovered The Cure, the awesome thing was that not only was Disintegration mind-blowingly awesome, but there was a HUGE back catalogue of their music to discover. It's hard to believe that in the UK and other places, people had been already listening to this band for years.
