Don't want to sound bad, I'm a fan of The Cure and, musically, I love this song, but I just can't stand the lyrics. They sound so simple in front of how epic the instrumentals are. Is it just about having an urge to be with someone and "hold like a doll"?

This is the album that got me into the Cure way back in '87... Their run from Head on the Door through Wish is very good. The only thing that keeps this from being perfect is "Hot Hot Hot" ... I didn't like it at the time and I don't think it's aged well... but considering it's like an 18 track double album... it's still damn impressive.

For everyone arguing about if it's dog or doll you are both right. I saw an interview where Robert said he originally wrote"doll". The other band members said it would sound better if it was"dog". Think about it. I'm feeling like an animal, tonight I'm howling inside. The hold you like a dog part is very understandable if you are old enough. Think sex positions. It is on The Cure's official site that the lyric is dog. Who cares though. Just enjoy the song whether you sing doll or dog.
