  2. W.... Z....

Some things don't age at all, nor do they go away, in 50 years.

  3. T.... D....

THIS IS A HEART BREAKING SONG

  4. M.... C....

  6. S.... L....

Vietnam's legacy...damage to the countless unnamed, that can never be undone.

  7. W.... I....

Stephen Stills is the genius of that band.

  8. M.... a....

    Fuck you haters

  9. C.... D....

One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. If you listen long enough it'll bring you to tears. Peace.

  10. J.... M....

This Steven Stills song didn’t make the final cut of “Easy Rider (1968-68)” after it was commissioned by Dennis Hopper for the final scene. Being as short as it is, not sure why they couldn’t fit it in.

  11. F.... ....

David Gilmour's Remember That Night brought me here.

  12. A.... P....

Try listening to this on 0.75x

  13. M.... B....

This song always gives me chills. Remember hearing it on the radio on 9/11.

  14. R.... T....

  17. D.... ....

It's kinda funny reading all these comments about the TV show Seal Team. This song is not about anyone in the US military.
Please learn your history. This song is about the 4 unarmed students who were shot and killed by the National Guard at Kent State University on May 4, 1970, 49 years ago now.
    RIP
    Allison Krause
    William Scroeder
    Jeffery Miller
    Sandra Scheuer
That's who this song is about.

    D.... ....

This song can be used for not only Vietnam War protesters, but Nam Vets , victims of 9-11, deaths of soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, our Police, and unwarranted shootings in cities and towns, both by civilians and police. There is always a price to freedom, many of which not acknowledged.

  18. m.... ....

Saw this on Seal Team.  Got soooo pizzed off.  This country should take half the money we squander on illegals and gave it to the VA so they can help these guys.

  19. c.... v....

thank you Seal Team for making discovery this song

  20. R.... C....

The shortest song of its era?

  21. J.... a....

So simple, so eloquent, so powerful, not-to-mention musically brilliant. Doesn't matter how you felt about Vietnam or any other war. It tears your heart out and I can't stop listening.

  22. M.... W....

this song made me cry like a little kid after seeing it on seal team

    M.... W....

    👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

    M.... W....

    That's exactly where I come from🙈

  23. J.... C....

    Came from Seal Team.

  24. L.... W....

This song ended and edition of Seal Team on CBS last night, and it broke me. I sobbed like a baby. God, please bless our veterans.

    L.... W....

Lainey Wright looking for someone else that came from seal team! That’s why I’m here. This was incredibly fitting for the episode. I’ve rewatched it already. Tv doesn’t typically do anything to me but that episode still has me thinking

    L.... W....

@Jacques Coury I'm not a Seal Team member, I am barely worthy of the right to honor them with my prayers.

    L.... W....

@Lainey Wright Yea I saw it on TV & it got me going as well. I served from 74-85. I know what it is like to loose Brothers!

  25. J.... L....

Sad but true. A hell of a price to pay. Sincere thanks to each an everyone of you!

  26. S.... S....

Seal Team on CBS brought me here
    My father served in Vietnam
Thank you to all the veterans past present and future

    S.... S....

@life and sea Seems like you dont know why War on Terror started

    S.... S....

life and sea The reason why people sign up is to make a change to make a better tomorrow but we live in a fucked world

    S.... S....

@Jambo Máximo More like FUCK YOU Jambo! , I was over there & lost some great friends. So go fuck yourself you freaking snowflake who lives off the blood of my Brothers & Sisters who serve! or served!

    S.... S....

@life and sea Sure snowflake & then we can all wear rags when we go out.

    S.... S....

@JAMBO My Dad and my uncle and my aunt and my grandpa served and they do that to FUCKING CHNAGE THE WORLD AND PROTECT AND YOU’RE SAYING IT’S PROPAGANDA?! I lost family in the military and it’s like you spit in my face and give a flying fuck you as well.

  27. S.... D....

Some CBS Show “Seal Team” brought me here. Guy shot himself in his truck.. I can relate

    S.... D....

Same as you guys. Just watched a DVR’d version of the show. POWERFUL! Song brought me here as well

    S.... D....

I saw that episode, I started tearing up...

    S.... D....

It was this vet named Swanny.
He’s hot himself since he couldn’t get his TBI.

  28. M.... K....

    Rip Swan.

    M.... K....

    Magnum Koishi
Such a tragic ending to any episode of any tv show. 😫😭😢
As a 19 y/o boy in college, when that scene occurred I was screaming in my dorm at the top of my lungs *OH GOD NO! JESUS CHRIST! HOLY FUCKING SHIT! OH MY GOD!* It has been quite awhile since such a scene in television hit me very hard. This one did it, and I’m literally sobbing my eyes so much because it’s so true as-well. Keep in mind also, it takes a lot for me to break down emotionally as much as I currently am.

  29. d.... c....

    Awesome.
    Well played.
    😎😁😉💛

  30. A.... M....

Written for Kent State ... so appropriate today :-(

    A.... M....

Haunting. Makes me think of bad things

  33. A.... T....

  34. l.... l....

Life has never been the same since I took a stand for clean water, after someone asked on 2 occasions " what do you care we flushed 6000 liters down the drain (for nothing)?

    l.... l....

So simple, so eloquent, so powerful, not-to-mention musically brilliant. Doesn't matter how you felt about Vietnam or any other war. It tears your heart out and I can't stop listening.

  35. h.... s....

A protest song against the war, but it's still a GREAT song for PATRIOTS. And a reminder to liberals where their freedoms came from.

  36. g.... g....

This should be the new world international anthem of earth loving humans

  37. C.... ....

I've liked this song for over 40 years...

  38. f.... ....

    C🌍🌎L ! ! ! ! !

  39. Z.... Z....

No song ever gives me goosebumps and tears at the same time as this song does! Absolutely beautiful! And tells it like it is! Thank you to all veterans past and present! 👍

  40. M.... M....

Daylight again, following me to bed
I think about a hundred years ago, how my fathers bled
I think I see a valley, covered with bones in blue
All the brave soldiers that cannot get older been askin' after
    You
Hear the past a callin', from Ar- -megeddon's side
When everyone's talkin' and noone is listenin', how can we
    Decide?

(Do we) find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground

Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down
Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground
Mother earth will swallow you, lay your body down
(Find the cost of freedom buried in the ground)

  41. J.... U....

    still chokes me up...

  42. C.... G....

As already pointed out, this song was first released as the B-side to "Ohio", which was written in response to the Kent State Massacre of anti-war protesters in May 1970. I urge everyone who loves this song to look at the compelling version posted at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGFD-rqqQhI -- which features powerful photos of war casualties in Vietnam along with photos from Kent State, in the middle of the video. In other words, it's a tribute to ALL of the war dead.

  43. K.... M....

Heard it at Woodstock by these geniuses and it still resonates almost 50 years later!

  44. G.... P....

Cn someone send me more ones like this.

  45. A.... d....

the first boy band screw everyone else

    A.... d....

pretty sure that goes to the Beatles, but these guys are the best

  46. a.... ....

This song is sadly relevant even today.

    a.... ....

Only if liberals would literally listen to the words and realize that those deaths were not in vain, and those men died fighting for freedom. I think it is quite relevant as a reminder of that.

    a.... ....

    We haven't learned a fkng.thing!

  47. M.... T....

Most people assume that this song is a tribute to fallen soldiers, but the truth is somewhat different. Stills wrote this songs to be used as the coda for Easy Rider, which gives this song a very different, anti-violence message in my book

    M.... T....

Respectfully, these words have different meanings, to different people, as you elude to in your own statement "in my book." It is, a timeless, fluid, abstract.
It would be nice if the cost of freedom was not rooted in violence, but, in reality, Freedom does Not Come For Free, so stated, and proven, in word and form, time and time again, throughout history.

    M.... T....

The AlienTrader You’re not wrong about the historical connection between freedom and violence, amigo, but I think a moment’s pause is necessary to consider the implication of this tune being written for a movie where two men are killed by their compatriots simply because they didn’t like the way the looked.

  48. M.... W....

Anyone else think this song is far too short? I could listen to it for hours.

    M.... W....

since i first heard it way back in the early 70s... yes .. tooo short... but yes.. loop it

    M.... W....

yes mate, it is indeed very short yet very intense...!

    M.... W....

I have always thought this. Yet, as I age, I feel like this is part of the song's brilliance. It's such a potent statement, lyrically, and while I could use another verse and chorus, it's anthemic as is.

    M.... W....

"On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero..." Best to keep things short & sweet!
This is the simplest, purest, 'hit it & quit it' version (I actually think the intro's too long, I'd be happy if it started where the vocals come in)

    M.... W....

    yes, always

  49. V.... R....

I'm 15 years old and I know this song and everything from that generation

  50. G.... G....

Bill Still sent me here also.

  51. C.... Z....

There is no more true statement even today.
We can never do enough for our veterans.

  52. r.... m....

oh i get it. bill still, Stephen stills from csny. I get it, clever!

  53. E.... J....

Mother Earth has you my son... Love you Taylor.

  54. T.... ....

    Bill Still sent me.

    T.... ....

There's already a comment like this, the "I'm Still listening to this song" comment.

    T.... ....

    Still listening..

  55. C.... E....

I'm *Still* listening to this song.

    C.... E....

    I’m STILLS listening too! ☺️

    C.... E....

    Chris Eder so am I.

    C.... E....

lolz me too. even after all these years.

  56. M.... M....

I kept hearing this intro on Bill Still and finally I remembered where I heard it! Had to come and listen to it again after so many years.

  57. l.... ....

Bill Still brought me here 12/15/16 about the Russia hackers did not hack the DMC, it was a inside leak Bill Still intro piece was 36 sec. of this song

    l.... ....

    latlanticcityphil Me too...

    l.... ....

    latlanticcityphil

    l.... ....

latlanticcityphil Yeah... They did though. There was a leaked document from the NSA that confirmed it.

    l.... ....

but the forensics work says otherwise. A leaked document means nothing as it could have come from anyone anywhere but forensics don't lie. . Inside job verified.. Investigate Seth Rich murder and you will find some answers to who released those DNC e-mails. But sadly those answers lead to more questions.

    l.... ....

It's DNC, not DMC. It aint an 80's rap group. It's the Democratic NATIONAL commitee.

  58. a.... c....

Drone strikes in the Philippines few have read about. Senate votes the require women register for Selective Service...

  59. M.... H....

So pardon my CSN&Y ignorance but did this come before or after Daylight again?

    M.... H....

This is from June 1970, Daylight Again is a 1982 album...

    M.... H....

Ahh ok thanks Gary. Was just wondering why Stills re-used it for the song Daylight Again, that's all :)

    M.... H....

Matt - garyalee is right. - There was actually a LIVE Version of this song from CSN&Y Album "4 Way Street" that came out in 1971 (recorded in June 1970). The studio version here, came out in 1974 on this album. IMO they are both excellent versions.

  60. c.... ....

    Neil Young!

  61. L.... B....

Can name the Seven Wars the U.S. fight at present? None are about freedom.

    L.... B....

Yes I thought of this song after watching some Vietnam War TV shows over the Memorial Day weekend. Terrible waste of good men (and women).

    L.... B....

    Global Attack Matrix

    L.... B....

The song is not about war.

    L.... B....

    lordofys yes it is?

    L.... B....

Young and good men die too soon

  62. A.... F....

The drawing on the album cover is by Joanie Mitchell....

  63. c.... ....

God, I love the noodling in the intro. So funky

  64. C.... C....

    Lay your 'bodies' down!!!...)O(...

  65. B.... G....

Perfect b-side to "Ohio". The a capella harmonies as the end still send chills down my spine.

    B.... G....

+Brian Gallagher Mine too. Then the tears well up.

    B.... G....

Brian Gallagher Needs to be longer.

    B.... G....

sends chills for me too man

    B.... G....

    🍀☘️🍀☘️🍀

    B.... G....

No lie, the chills were just going up my spine as I read your comment, right as I heard the harmonies at the end. There was something going on with this song.

  66. T.... L....

Such delicate guitar, such powerful words.

    T.... L....

    L❤VE it T💜💙 😊😋😅😆 ! ! ! !

  67. R.... S....

    how good was THAT.
Stills is amazing...he has a talking guitar.

  68. E.... W....

Can't hear this song enough.  Seems eternally relevant, unfortunately.

    E.... W....

When this first came out there was a special vibration going on which is cannot be explained now.

  69. M.... L....

What is the cost of freedom?

    M.... L....

    +Michael Ladd Time.

    M.... L....

Too true. Dare we call ourselves civilized?

    M.... L....

    buck o five

    M.... L....

The FAMILIES of the dead will continue to be affected for a very long time, well after a war has ended. My father was in the Army during the Vietnam War and he was one of the people who came to your door...

  70. H.... J....

Beautiful. Particularly powerful when they performed it in the concert right after 11 September 2001. Thank you!
