Crosby, Stills & Nash - Marrakesh Express Lyrics

[Intro. (Electric Guitars)]

Looking at the world through the sunset in your eyes
Traveling the train through clear Moroccan skies
Ducks and pigs and chickens call
Animal carpet wall to wall
American ladies five-foot tall in blue

Sweeping cobwebs from the edges of my mind
Had to get away to see what we could find
Hope the days that lie ahead
Bring us back to where they've led
Listen not to what's been said to you

Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
They're taking me to Marrakesh
All aboard the train, all aboard the train

I've been saving all my money just to take you there
I smell the garden in your hair

Take the train from Casablanca going south
Blowing smoke rings from the corners of my mouth
Colored cottons hang in the air
Charming cobras in the square
Striped djellebas we can wear at home Well, let me hear you now

Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
They're taking me to Marrakesh

Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express
They're taking me to Marrakesh
All on board the train, all on board the train
All on board

[Ending (Electric Guitars)]

  9. K.... W....

Simply by the law of averages, shitty groups such as CS&N would have at least one decent tune.

  10. J.... B....

Sorry, but remastering just doesn't cut it. Much too tinny.

  11. S.... S....

    Fucken shit

  12. s.... w....

This was their first album and they never wanted to be considered a band with strings attached..just a gathering of good musicians ...based on their individual experiences falling out with their previous bands.

  13. h.... ....

it took me years to realize CSN is some of the top hippie music their was. they were just pure love

Will anyone today write a song like this?

  19. S.... J....

Colorado state law mandates that you hit a pipe everytime this song plays. you must be lighting it while the Arabic is being spoken

  20. T.... B....

What a fine songwriter Graham Nash is!

  21. T.... R....

Awe memories of my parents and uncles and the music they had on the radio during my childhood. Great memories. This song in particular reminds me of my late Uncle James. Also Neil Diamonds song as well.

  22. A.... N....

My dad used to drive that train from casablanca to marrakesh in the 60's and 70's

    A.... N....

The band might've been on his train when they came up with the song...

  23. R.... C....

I was on the Marrakesh Express when I was in the Peace Corps, It is world's slowest train!

  24. G.... P....

The guitars of this era sang as well as the master that played them. Whatever happened to that ability nowadays anyway?

  25. T.... 1....

Late 60's 70's decade. We were all treated to truly the best that sound has to offer!!

  31. b.... ....

This song is shit, and an earworm

  32. S.... J....

I remember this on the camper radio on the road there and my parents singing 1970 good times😁

    S.... J....

    Same 😊

  33. E.... H....

The CSN box set liner notes say it's the great Jim Gordon on drums, not Dallas Taylor. Wonder if C, S, or N remembers who it was. http://aln3.albumlinernotes.com/CSN_Box_Set_Tracklist.html

  41. P.... B....

    Marrakesh means GOD'S LAND Howzatt???

  42. p.... ....

Poor Lori Schiller. I love this song, too, but music shouldn't necessarily govern a person's vacation choices. Imagine being a diagnosed schizophrenic and feeling stable enough to take a trip, then feeling such bad sunburn and heat intolerance from the Thorazine that you stop taking it, only to find yourself psychotic and alone in a foreign country, then nearly raped when you meet up with a reliable-seeming 'guide' to score hashish to calm your hallucinations and terrors. Random AF comment, but her memoirs have been on my mind lately...

  46. O.... ....

Morocco is about to build a 200 mph (320 km/h) high speed rail line, faster than anything that Amtrak runs. I wonder if the train will be called the Marrakesh Express?

    O.... ....

My dad used to drive train of that line from casablanca to marrakesh in the 60's and 70's

    O.... ....

That would be so cool !

    O.... ....

If it stays on the track it will be a miracle

    O.... ....

ABDELHADI NDIF Salam! I came here because someone asked me to translate the talking at the beginning but I don’t think it’s Arabic. It’s not, right?

    *ALL ABOARD THE TRAIN*

  55. R.... L....

By chance I took the Marrakesh Express in 1970 before I heard the song. Ever since hearing it, I relive the journey and experience exactly as Nash's lyrics conveys with joyful nostalgia!

    R.... L....

Hollies woudnt have had the harmony like CS & N...

    R.... L....

those were the times... including the Pudding Shop and Sugar Shack in Istambul

  56. Z.... M....

  57. r.... s....

    C.... R....

  59. E.... O....

COOL SONG!!!!!!!! love it. Thanks for posting it.!!!

  60. O.... G....

Happy Birthday today(February 2) to Graham Nash. Cheers!

  61. K.... C....

One of my favorite songs :)

  62. 1.... ....

El Tri "Piedras Rodantes" rebooted this song in the 80's

  63. R.... ....

Graham wrote this song when he was still with the Hollies. He pitched it to them and they turned it down. Hollies' loss became CSN's gain

  64. l.... ....

plain and simple: a very nice song. eternal classic

  65. N.... B....

They were probably stoned out of their minds in the train, which honestly, sounds pretty good to me

    N.... B....

Kuma Sama Well, this song is about smoking Moroccan hashish, so yeah.

  66. w.... ....

You know, if this band could have added an additional person with a rough, harder edge, they might have made great rock'n roll. As it is, they're a little soft. I wonder who during that time could have brought in a heavy guitar and a gritty outlook to make this band soar.

    w.... ....

No offense, but I wouldn't have changed a thing. This group and album were amazing.

    w.... ....

wildmercuryfilms that would be Neil Young.

  67. C.... H....

    Classic!

  68. T.... G....

One of my all time favorite bands!

    T.... G....

Mine to Tina, what year did you graduate from high school.

  69. T.... T....

I was listening to this great song as a kid. Still great today. Just too short, is all.

    T.... T....

I play it 4 times in a row; LP version. :-) It takes me back to growing up in San Francisco.

    T.... T....

Always gives me pleasant thoughts this song:D

    T.... T....

agree, I was a teenager and living in the desert of SoCal, but had memories of Marocco when I was about 6

  70. D.... ....

I smoke a bowl of hashish to this whenever I can

    D.... ....

@Valeri4561 you're certainly impressive berating a stranger you don't know behind the curtain of anonymity.

    D.... ....

@snoozel Asmr Calm down smarty pants! I'm entitled to my opinion. I come from a family of police officers and I know what the drugs do to not just the seller, or the user, but innocent people killed every year because of people that think it's okay to brake the law if they justify it in some stupid way!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So.....keep walkin!

    D.... ....

    "break"

    D.... ....

@Valeri4561 LOL, nobody ever died from smoking pot, you're just totally delusional.

Also, with freedom of speech, your freedom to swing your fist ends where the other's nose begins, or you get a shit show of retaliation, like what I'm doing now to you.

So you're delusional and a hypocritical moron, because people who have worked in law enforcement know about that really well with balancing people's civil rights, as well as rights and responsibilities, otherwise you'd be allowed to incite riots or slander people, but you are not, even under the First.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but when we use our opinions against others we invite retaliation in a lawless environment, that's why hate speech is not freedom of speech in law.

Just because you are related to a police officer, or even if one puts their cock into you now and then, does not make you any kind of police officer, because if you were, you'd be a disgrace to your uniform, but you clearly have no fucking idea about any of that, so better to just think before opening your big fat mouth for other people to just shove their cocks into, because I'm entitled to my opinion too, einstein and I can write more of them and bury you in them under the same idiotic rubric.

    D.... ....

Degree7 “[...] they’re taking me to smoke their hash [..]”

  71. J.... B....

I slaughtered civilians and soldiers alike to this song with my M-60, from the safety of a huey, when I was in the Nam. Rat-a-tat-tat mutha fukas...get some...get some...

    J.... B....

    Some nightmare you had.

  72. J.... M....

I remember hearing this song in the jfk airport parking lot

  73. H.... S....

    all aboard! so good.

  74. T.... D....

A lot of people won't be riding on American Express in the future after their refusal to pull support for a play depicting Trump's assassination.

    T.... D....

Tom Dockery what does this have to do with the song

    T.... D....

Goodness, how clueless could Trumpflakes be! How easily manipulated you are!

The play you note is a long-running, anti-violence play. Before Trump came along, the person killed was played by a black man. Guess whom that represented? I do not remember you Trumpflakes all in a huff about it back then.

Not only did you entirely miss the point of the play, but you make it all about you and your love muffin Donny.

In your next life, you would do well to ask for double the neurons. You got terribly shortchanged this iteration.

    T.... D....

    Normie !!

    T.... D....

    Fuck trump

  75. t.... j....

    awesome song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  76. j.... ....

I don't know if this is my favorite song, though it might be. But it's the only one in which I have to crank up the volume at the end so I can hear the fadeout. That's the best part of the song. In fact, that's the mark of a great song: it just keeps getting better until the end. lf I had a criticism of this song it would only be that it's too short.

    j.... ....

    Well said!

  77. R.... S....

It's impossible to listen to this song and not smile. Great memories.

    R.... S....

If you don't smile while this song is playing then you must be musically dead.

    R.... S....

Actually chokes me up with tears and a smile . . .I really miss these days.

    R.... S....

@ Roxanne Schwab - Right you are, Ms Schwab. Add to that "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves, and "Y.M.C.A." by The Village People.

  78. R.... C....

    What is the intro say

    R.... C....

Just a bunch of jibberish from David "Cornhole" Crosby.

  79. j.... ....

anyone else here because Iggy mocked it?

    j.... ....

Iggy Pop? I'd like to see that. Link please?

  80. c.... ....

    What a FANTASTIC song :-)

  81. P.... M....

    I love this song!!!!! :-)
