Crosby, David - Traction In The Rain Lyrics

It's hard enough, I know
To find the strength to go
Back to where it all began
It's hard to enough to gain
Any traction in the rain
You know it's hard for me to understand

Hard to find a way
To get through another city day
Without thinking about
Gettin' out

Now the strangest thing I've seen
Was a t-shirt turning green
In envy of turtle dove
The dove's lady was the cause
Or maybe it was the olive branch she held in her claws
Or maybe he could see they were in love

You know it's hard for me to find a way
To get through another city day
Without thinking about
Gettin' out

Crosby, David Traction In The Rain Comments
  1. P.... P....

I have loved this album for what seems my entire lifetime, as I am very old, for it's otherworldly quality, musically and lyrically. It is sublime.
The emotional response it evokes always parallels that of a very magical mescaline trip I took while walking in the high sierras in what seems a lifetime ago.Thank you David You are a magician.

  3. I.... V....

One of my all-time favorites - Pure and amazing.

  4. M.... B....

Great album. David is an American treasure. I saw him with Graham when they toured as a duo in 1974.

  5. M.... P....

got 5 teenage grandkids try to explain how important the 60s and 70s were. the music , the people; the politics . what was going on in this country at that time, they don't get it. I guess you had to be there

  6. t.... ....

PERHAPS the best song ever written.

  7. A.... M....

This album is the gate to paradise! A celebration of the ending Hippie-Era (1971): yearning and unreplaceable

  8. L.... H....

  9. L.... H....

I was in the first years of my Navy career when I found this album. . . . I was stationed in the San Francisco Bay Area. This album will always remind me of those days. . . .

    John Keats wrote:
" A thing of beauty is a joy forever."
    Splendid example.
So evocative for me of a Colorado mountain drive circa 1971 -
    in a light rain...............................
Garcia was a force of nature on that pedal steel on this record,
but this was David Crosby - especially - at his most transcendental.
Thanks to EarpJohn for your care.

  15. G.... B....

To think that tin-eared, pompous asshole Robert Christgau gave this album a roasting on its release...

    G.... B....

I read that also. He's a sharp critic, i'll give him that. Hated what he called the "El-Lay" sound. Okay, we get it, plenty of bandwagon groups capitalize on a sound. My problem with his review is he just said two words and gave it a "D+". Come on, dickhead, what exactly is the purpose of a critic?

  16. m.... ....

    Tan hermosa.

  17. M.... C....

this album is so ridiculously underrated

    M.... C....

+Mike Crumplar I bought it in 71 and used to listen to it as i fell asleep. beautiful.

    M.... C....

    +Mike Crumplar Not by me!!

  18. k.... ....

the rock n roll royalty on this album is a testament to the beauty of the time.
    This is my favorite song...
The album has been completely overlooked, imo... I guess because it's just a recorded history of friends getting together for a few days and making music. I love the rawness, the simplicity, the pureness of the album.
    Music is Love 💜💙💚

  19. D.... J....

Listening to this in the rain. 💦

  20. B.... ....

A friend gave me this record in the 70's - one of the best presents I ever received - Thanks Ephrem (somewhere in the U.S. now:)).

  21. J.... S....

    so beautiful...

  22. R.... W....

loved csny  - all of it, but David Crosby's words and music still knock me out - 40 years later! Beautiful

For all its faults, the ability to relive years past through YouTube is a wonderful gift

For me, if I can revive the soundtrack, I can remember it all-the summer scents and sunshine, the highs and first kisses...I sincerely hope that young people in the intervenig years have experienced similar beauty and intensity, (the joy of discovering life and music and love, all created brand new in the universe, just for us, free and full of wonder) as we felt in the years from 67 to, say, 72.(your mileage, and chronology, may vary)

I doubt it, but I would wish it for them. I just have a hard time believing anything since has been as wild and fresh as what we lucked into. The sheer unguided, exuberant, stoned-out, unprecedented and unrestrained GENIUS of it all! The sense of no limits, of fundamental change in...well, EVERYTHING, that we felt for a short time...I don't think there's been anything like it since.

But maybe that's just codger talk. Also, back then I didn't have these damn kids on my lawn.

    B.... G....

I understand everything you said. I'm 61 now so I has this album the year before I went to Uni.... But, I have to say, my fave period for music has to be 1986-1995, I doubt if there will ever be an era/decade like that one.

  24. g.... ....

I'll never understand peoples urge to tell their age in music videos

    g.... ....

Good art stands the test of time and narrates your passing. I guess its personal reflection.

    g.... ....

Eric Anderson I agree, thats exactly what it is.

    g.... ....

You will...when you get older. Depends if there was anything recorded worth remembering...these days ...not so much

  25. B.... ....

One of the most powerful albums of the last 100 years

  26. B.... ....

    Another masterpiece.

  27. J.... H....

thank you for posting.....one of my favorite albums of all time....

  28. s.... ....

This song 1am headphones in. Just wonderful. Transcendent

    s.... ....

  29. D.... M....

I'm 61. I love this album so much I cry with happiness, pure joy. Thank you David.

    D.... M....

Friends i'm almost 65 and completely agree with you all. One of the ten albums to save in case of nuclear war...

    D.... M....

@Mario Fiorentini A desert island LP for sure. My top 10 would start with Abbey Road, Dark Side Of The Moon, Are You Experienced, Surrealistic Pillow, Fragile, Aqualung,
Crosby Stills and Nash, This One, Who's Next, Led Zeppelin 4....

    D.... M....

@Thundergod129-7307 well said. I'd add Blood on the tracks, Time out of mind and Oh, mercy. And our loves !

    D.... M....

@Burt472 Thank You for the kind words and wishes. Unfortunately we now have Taliban and ISIS to deal with so the fight never seems to end....

  30. n.... ....

I can't figure out how to 'like' comments since they've changed things up here (grrrrr), but thank you, Peter Lewicke, for mentioning the late, great, so unknown Laura Allan.

    n.... ....

in the bi fold of the album she looks exactly like a Laura i went to school with. what a babe!

  31. d.... s....

spacepatrolman, the reason for the promo 45 was they went out to radio stations across the US, the mono side was for AM stations; the stereo side for FM stations.

  32. c.... p....

    Mágico

  33. P.... L....

    Yes, Laura Allan was great.

  34. y.... ....

In 2010 the Vatican listed this album as #2 on their list of Top Ten Pop Albums of all time. So I guess you're pretty much in agreement with God.

  35. y.... ....

What a soul singer! And the luscious strings. Peach pie for the ears.

  36. M.... B....

Some good weed wouldn't hurt, but it's really not necessary.

  37. K.... K....

    this is best from David!

  38. G.... D....

A very "heart felt album" by one of the 60's greatest singer/songwriters. I am consumed like a breathe of "fresh air" every time I hear his music. It's as if he gave me a "time machine, so I could travel back in time and remember that Woman I lost a long, long time ago." Thanks for posting David's Best Solo Album

  39. G.... L....

Out of all my collection this is my favorite album I just get lost in it

  40. D.... B....

The entire album is a sonic experience. Tim Turner is 500% correct. I don't know if they released it on CD.

  41. T.... T....

    Incredible sonic experience.

Do yourself a favor - and I'm not kidding!

Find the album in stereo, put on headphones, lie in bed, turn out the lights.

    And listen.

    You WILL be rewarded!

  42. F.... ....

Without Youtube I would never know about so many albums like this one. Never even knew it existed. Love the exploration.

  43. b.... ....

    best album!

  44. j.... c....

    a masterpiece !!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. C.... L....

    I ADORE the whole album.
