Crosby, Bing - My Woman Lyrics

My woman
Is as mean as she can be
My woman
She makes a fool of me
Never treats me good
Don't know why I should love her

She's lying when she says I love you
And I know it but what am I to do
Though she makes me cry, I don't care for I love her

Once I laughed and loved for it all wrong
Then she came along like a new song
Now I sing a blue song

My woman
She has a heart of stone
Not human, but she must be my own
Till the day I die, I'll be loving my woman

Once I laughed and loved for it all wrong
Then she came along like a new song
Now I sing a blue song

My woman
She has a heart of stone
Not human, but she must be my own
Till the day I die, I'll be loving my woman

Crosby, Bing My Woman Comments

Ho9w much better this song is when done to a slow beat. I've only heard a fast version of it until now. So much more meaningful and how wise of the bandleader to get it right.

Music from this era always sounds so sinister. Not sure if it's the worn recording, the warped audio from the old instruments, or the fact that everyone involved with this song is long dead, but there's always this feeling of dread present in the music.
But this one in particular sounds particularly unsettling because of its lyrics.

I LOVE THIS AS WELL AS THE Ray Noble Orch., with Al Bowlly vocal! This was the first version I ever heard of this AWESOME Song! When I bought the Brunswick 78 of it!

  5. S.... ....

    That Slinky voice !
Of course White Town would be all over this smoky, simmering jazz.
    got zazz.

Yep, I wrote 'Your Woman' as an answer song to Crosby's song. But I hadn't heard this version at the time, only Al Bowlly's version. :-)

Having heard Al Bowlly's version, I'd say John Williams was also inspired.

  15. b.... ....

I looked up this song my "woman" because i got tired of people saying the guy is gay or he is in love with a woman thinking hes a man or something.

  16. J.... R....

    @3rdCoastTexasToast Absolutely true

  17. X.... ....

Kgecaprice: and one would not be far off from truth as white town wrote "your woman" based off of this song by Bing Crosby. Who by the way is a legend even though thirty years before my time.

  18. A.... G....

    LOL! BIOSHOCK

  19. k.... ....

You looked up White Town Your Woman because you were lifted and thought it sounded some like West Coast G Funk and possibly a sample of Dr. Dre produced Snoop Doggy Dogg's "What's my name?". Which samples Atomic Dog and Knee Deep. Much to your surprise you learned it was a old Bing Crosby tune.

  20. B.... M....

reminds so much of bioshock too!!!

  21. B.... M....

    wikki brought me here too...

  22. w.... ....

@thewordthatpierces - That message I originally posted was so long ago. Get over yourself.

  25. K.... ....

@zavaroudikos the white town song samples the Al Bowlly version of this song.

  26. s.... ....

@3rdCoastTexasToast Holy shit thats exactly what i did! :P

  27. Z.... ....

Sounds like the record might be playing a little slow...Bing's voice sounds kind of funny.

Bing Crosby had a massive influence on music in the 20th Century. Not only did he influence Al Bowlly. He recorded a duet with David Bowie. John Lennon had a Bing Crosby jukebox in his house. Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Gene Austin, and Dave Brubeck recorded his songs. "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You" from 1932 is one of his most successful compositions. "My Woman" is from the same period, when he was at his peak.

  29. 3.... ....

You just looked up White Town on wikipedia and it said that...That's the only reason you looked this song up too because that's exactly what I did...

  30. k.... ....

The White Town song "Your Woman" samples the Al Bowlly recording, a musical riff or motif. from "My Woman". They are two different songs but "Your Woman" was based on "My Woman" and samples the song. This is different from recording the song note-for-note or in an arrangement. It is more like a free-form jazz improvisation based on "My Woman".

  31. z.... ....

where is the similarity with the white town version?? They are 2 completely diffent songs....

  32. g.... ....

    Excellent music knowledge there, sir.

  33. k.... ....

White Town covered Bing Crosby's 1932 composition "My Woman" in 1997, a cover version that reached no.1 in the UK and no.23 in the U.S. Bing Crosby co-wrote the lyrics to "My Woman". Al Bowlly covered the song in November, 1932 in London with Lew Stone.
